Kersten Reveals Oft-Profiled Citizens Oppose ProfilingKeeping a Wholesome Eye on Shifty Muslims…

kersten.jpgKatherine Kersten has published three pieces on the flying imams in two weeks, the third discussing “The real purpose behind the imam publicity blitz”. In other words, she pushes a story for a couple weeks then dissects her own temporary obsession, coming to the startling conclusion that minorities don’t like being profiled, and the Democrats are behind it all in an obvious effort to make America less safe. Duh.

Kersten seems convinced the imams are terrorists, were definitely planning something on Flight 300, and in a shocking twist - are in cahoots with…wait for it…Democrats:

“The End of Racial Profiling Act has languished until now. What did it need to reinvigorate it? New congressional leadership, and that’s coming in January. But it needed something else in this media age: a high-profile incident to jump-start it.”

What better than the media circus at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport on Nov. 20?

Kersten’s insinuation that Rep. Keith Ellison, Rep. John Conyers, and/or Speaker-elect Pelosi are in cahoots with the imams [whom she asserts are terrorist-connected] in a coordinated effort to pass the End of Racial Profiling Act is as hilarious as it is sad. That being said, I think passing the End of Racial Profiling Act would be a step in the right direction, and I hope that Democrats in Congress have a strategy to get it done.

Does Katherine Kersten really believe that supporting the rights of individuals not to be searched, detained, or pulled-over based on their race or faith means you’re in cahoots with terrorists?

Do you?

  • Oh my gawwwddd, she is wearing a Laura Ashley top from 1987. Oh Katherine, I was 10 in 1987 and my mom bought me one very similiar. Get with the times KK.

  • Who knows what Kersten believes? She has the prose style of a Scrabble game, and her columns on the imams showed that she is not just a bad writer, she is a lazy one, too. How many other writers would reprint US Air’s self-justifying press releases, and use that as the sole source of the story?

  • While I prefer principled discussion to snark (yeah, right), I have to tip my hat to this site for finding such great-and-awful pictures of the opposition. I would *love* to see a pic of Michele Bachmann from the Almanac just after the elections, when she had that absolutely hideous ‘do.

On the other hand, if I never hear anything about her again, I wouldn’t complain, either.

  • Karen -

Laura Ashley? Really? I was thinking the $9.99 clearence rack at K-Mart.

  • Looks more like something on clearence at the Salvation Army thrift store.

  • I must get in on this. Her top looks like a house coat; kind of like ones we used to buy my grandmother for Christmas back in the ‘60’s!

  • I thought it was cool that the Strib allowed KK to publish anything about the imams incident.

Now that the election is over I guess they don’t think it could hurt to publish anything that wasn’t left of center.

She vetted a bunch of facts that no other Minnesota based media outlet bothered to publish.

Almost made me feel like they wanted me to weigh out both sides of the story and decide for myself what was real. Very strange for the Strib.

Katherine Kersten is a wonderful human being. Why your side of the aisle can’t be kind is as predictable as your sniping.

    Merry Christmas!

  • what deep thinkers here..commenting on fashion…. i do believe the “imams” were plotting something…they undoubtedly have ties to terrorist organizations…Never Never take anything for granted

  • “She vetted a bunch of facts that no other Minnesota based media outlet bothered to publish.

She reprinted the news releases US Air put out to defend itself. SHe did not bother to speak with anyone who might back up the imams’ side of the story.

Telling us the version that supports her pre-conceived ideas is not “vetting the facts”.

  • You should not be searched, etc. based on your race - but my understanding of this incident is that this wasn’t just race - there were behaviors.

Here are some screen captures of Michele’s almanac appearance.

Kersten’s columns do not get fact checked, and I am dubious about the facts. I had heard the story about the requests for seat belt extenders elsewhere - not just from Kersten.

As far as Kersten’s conspiracy theories go - they belong in the black helicopters are circling category.

  • It’s hard to say what Kersten believes. I think she doesn’t yet realize that Fine lost to Ellison, and the GOP lost control of both the House and Senate and is still fighting on with the same old strategy (sort of like the president and the war in Iraq).

But I think DHS is smart enough not to rely on racial profiling to catch terrorists.

The al Quaeda operative who wanted to blow up the LA airport in 1999 looked the part of the French Canadian Catholic his forged passport claimed he was. His behavior, not his racial profile, gave him away.

As soon we start using racial profiling, global terrorist networks will recruit a 20 something Indonesian woman, with a movie star figure and movie star looks, and a lethal charge of plastic explosives in her makeup case,

to sit beside Kersten on an airplane and blow herself up.

  • Man, what a well set-up website!
