Breaking [Strib]:Rep Mark Olson pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to charges that he assaulted his wife during a domestic dispute Nov. 12. In a court appearance that lasted less than one minute, a pre-trial hearing was set for Jan. 19, and Olson left the courtoroom quickly refusing to comment.
Jeff Fecke noted some SCTimes quotes @ MinMon:
“I have a lot of support and I don’t see any reason why this would keep me from being able to represent people. It just won’t look good for a while ,”
And of course, after being rightly held accountable for his actions by his party:
“Maybe it means I’m an independent now ,” he said. “I don’t know. I’ve always been sort of independent.”

Wow, if he’s convicted, he can’t have a gun anymore. That wont go over well at the NRA convention….
Olson could be making history… the first Minnesota legislator to be expelled.

Silly question, but I really don’t know how it works in MN. If he is expelled, how is the seat filled? Governor’s appointment? Special election? Vacant until next regular election? (The last would seem strange, though.)
It would be a special election, called by the Gov T-Paw. And the GOP is already waiting to valut the esteemed (yet defeated) Mary Kiffmeyer into the seat
Kiffmeyer may have to wait months for Mark Olson to resign… it looks as if Olson will hold onto his seat as long as he can… just like his PRTista pal Dean Zimmermann, who I’ve heard will be sentenced for his bribery conviction next week. In spite of being caught on video accepting $5,000 in cash, Zimmermann still claims he is innocent.
