Ciresi Announcement “Soon,” “Within Weeks”

The Jewish Daily Forward is reporting that Mike Ciresi has told them that he is “very stongly leaning” towards making a run for US Senate in ‘08. The article continues on to say that Ciresi has stated that a formal announcement will likely come “soon” — “within weeks, and probably shorter.”

This would clearly shake up the DFL Senate field immensely and have wide-ranging implications. Ciresi is the next candidate to be featured in our 6-part series on the possible DFL ‘08 Senate candidates. So stay tuned for more analysis.

Why aren’t you planning to review R.T. Rybak? He is much more of a possible heavyweight in this field than Dean Johnson.

Am I going to get a response?

I just saw this comment, sorry for the delayed response.

I’m not reviewing RT because he has made it very clear that he’s not going to run. There are many more “possible” candidates than we’re featuring but it’s too vast a field to cover. So we’ve limited ourselves to the candidates that have indicated interest without declaring that they won’t run. Tarryl Clark barely satisfies that standard, but everyone else clearly does. RT on the other hand has been fairly adamant that he has no plans for ‘08.

If he changes his mind we’ll be happy to feature him.

That isn’t what I have heard…publicly he may be saying that…but try to get some anonymous inside sources…I think you will get a very different answer.

PT, what exactly do you need to know about Rybak? That being a liberal Minneapolis mayor is not the best jumping off point for a statewide race? That most of his press for the last year has been about his hiring of an unqualified fire chief who went on a sexual harassment rampage, costing the city a ton of money?

My anonymous inside sources say Rybak is running for Governor in 2010.

PT — most of the anonymous inside sources I’ve talked to have said that RT has thought about lots of races but doesn’t really see himself in a legislative role. Sean
