Mondale’s Boyhood Home! Going once, going twice…

7D68 12Now if this isn’t just a bit ridiculous I’m not sure what is. Former Vice President, Walter Mondale’s boyhood home is up for sale by its current owner on, get this, eBay!

Yes, you can have this charming 1500 square foot piece of of history starting at $50,000! Located down on the border of Minnesota and Iowa in the charming town of Elmore MN, this is the home where Walter Mondale dreamed of things to come. “Enjoy the fragrant mix of honeysuckle, lilac and rosebushes bordering this landscaped property with large red maples on boulevard. If you’re looking to own a piece of history this home is for you!”

Now how can you turn down a pitch like that!? Actually, $50,000 isn’t so bad…

As the last full time Editor of Mondale’s “boyhood” “hometown” newspaper, the “Elmore Eye, I remember well the house in question. However, Mondale was actually born in nearby Ceylon, Minnesota, where his father was also a Methodist Minister. I plan on collecting more thoughts on my time spent in that rather interesting community. Nowdays, when I think of Elmore, I am reminded of the David Lynch film “Blue Velvet.” This is because just as the fictional “Lumbertown” (I think that was what Lynch called the setting for the movie), Elmore presented a bucolic atmosphere on the surface while at the same time, there were many goings-on beneath the surface that reflected the full spectrum of the human condition, ranging from the depraved to the inane. And I was there to witness it firsthand. I may have to contact Lynch and propose a midwestern sequel. TSM
