Last night’s session gave us all quite a bit of insight into the Republican decision making process (“tax rich people=bad”) but the most lucid moment of insight was provided by some off-screen remarks made by House Minority Leader Marty Seifert. Watch the video below and listen carefully. Towards the end of the video you can clearly hear Rep. Seifert say “vote no wardlow” and then, almost immediately, Rep. Lynn Wardlow’s light signals a nay vote on the big-board. Take a look and listen:
Rep. Wardlow, who exactly is your boss, the people of district 38B or Marty Seifert?

Matt,
I don’t think there is any comparison between a tired legislator being advised by his leader about a vote being taken and James Metzen’s DWI. I noticed there was no news of it on your site and I thought it deserved mention since you took the cheap shot at Wardlow and Siefert ;-P.
Ah, Chris, the kid, is back in the sandbox!
Anybody that has spent any time on the floor knows that this happens on both sides with just about every vote. It’s kinda funny to watch but not really insightful.
Yea right, except that Wardlow is one of the legislatures dimmest bulbs. Nice guy, totally ineffective legislator. Hasn’t done a thing for his constituents that his party hasn’t told him to do. Talk to him sometime on anything in detail, you’ll see. I’ve met him several times and have talked to many others about their impression, dim is being very polite.
attilla,
Oh, I don’t doubt that. You could take your statement and replace “Wardlow” with about 50% of the names in the house. At least you say Wardlow is nice.
Kero, No, I’m talking relative to the others in the legislature. Dim, ineffective.
Wow, now that is saying something.
Wardlow is great:
http://christophertruscott.blogspot.com/2006/12/will-wardlow-live-up-to-his-analysis.html
Seriously Chris,
No one here condones Metzen getting a DUI, but if we wanna play this game, I’d like to hear you skewer Rep Olson for allegedly beating his wife…
I found the Seifert instructions funny. Seriously. It’s not like Ron Shimanski’s first votes in the House where Tom Emmer and others pushed him to vote Red all the time. This cat’s been there awhile and Seifert folds him like a $5 bill in his pocket.
Sad…
Hal,
I think Olson is a terrible person and he should not be in the legislature. Does that make you happy?
Seriously though, where is the outrage at Metzen on your side? I haven’t seen mention of it on the left leaning blogs. Metzen could have killed someone last night. He was absolutely trashed driving at double the legal limit. Not to mention how did the guy get from .00 to .15 in less than two hours? Or was he drinking while he was presiding over the Senate. Now that would be sad.
You can pick on Wardlow all you want. But if you want to play these silly games, the finger is going to get pointed right back at you. Since you brought up Mark Olson, I’d like to remind you of Kevin Chandler. Enough said.
P.S. I forgot that you’re not from Minnesota originally. Chandler was a DFL State Legislator when he beat the hell out of his then-wife, Kathy in the parking lot of O’Gara’s bar and restaurant in St. Paul.
Gotcha.
We never saw any criticism of Mark Olson on the righty blogs either.
If it even matters, I was pretty pissed off to hear Metzgen was driving drunk. I agree, how in the hell did he get to .15 in about 2 hours.
I don’t like drunk drivers or wife beaters, regardless of the party and will not protect them.
Not from Minnesota? Where am I from?
Sorry Hal, if I mixed you up with another blogger. I thought you were the guy who was originally from the south. In any event, criticism of Olson was pretty universal in the GOP. Steve Swiggum even asked him to resign.
Boys, boys, boys. Lighten up! If y’all keep facing backwards, forward progress is impossible. It’s time to purge lackeys of every political persuasion. They are a boil on the butt of humanity.
Update: It’s 2010 and Wardlow’s dim bulb is out of the legislature. Mike Obermueller (DFL) was elected to represent the people of 38B.
Obermueller is an attorney with a B.A. in Communications, and his committee assignments are:
Bioscience and Workforce Development Policy and Oversight Division, vice chair; Energy Finance and Policy Division; Higher Education and Workforce Development Finance and Policy Division; K-12 Education Policy and Oversight.
I would interpret Obermueller’s assignment as vice chair on the bioscience committee as an indicator that his bulb is not a dim one.
