(If you haven’t read it, see our first post on this) It’s the Republican party, they take their bloodsport seriously, this has to be juicier than just allegations in the Strib. For all of their misty-eyed commitment to Ronald Reagan they never pay attention to his commandment, nobody turns on a Republican faster than a Republican scorned.
ROUND 1
Evie “Ax-handle” Axdahl vs. Andy “Apple of My Mother’s Eye” Aplikowski
Well I guess you could say this was Evie and Brian Sullivan vs. The Star Tribune, but really, isn’t that whole ‘liberal media bias’ played out? Evie Axdahl and Brian Sullivan are Minnesota’s representatives to the Sith Brotherhood of Darkness Republican National Committee and shortly after the initial story came out in the Strib they responded with all of the fury a genial grandmotherly looking woman could. Sending out sternly worded missive Axdahl and Sullivan resort to the classic Republican talking point “They’re out to get us!”
“In a desperate last minute attempt to the [sic] alter the race for state Party chairman, the ultra-liberal Star Tribune has launched yet another baseless, politically motivated attack on Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman Ron Carey.”
But that’s just kind of boring. I’ve never heard the Republican party in Minnesota not blame something on the Strib. The meaty part was a paragraph later.
“Just days before these confidential, internal party documents appeared mysteriously under the door of the Star Tribune, a known Republican opponent of Ron’s was boasting that he was in possession of these confidential documents and anxious to get them public. Documents leaked to the Star Tribune included highly confidential finance and personnel records stolen from the state Party offices. It’s sad some Republicans don’t care about the damage they do to our Party and conservative cause.”
Oooh… who were they talking about? A traitor in their midst! Some vile quisling out to sink St. Ron’s bid to lead the Republican Party to continued success…. errr… something.
While as far as I can tell they don’t name names in the letter Andy Aplikowski just wanted to let you know he is insulted, absolutely insulted that anyone would think after months of railing against the current RPM administration, hitching his buggy to GI Joe’s jeep, and using his blog as clothesline for the pettiest tiffs, and losing resoundingly at all of his efforts to challenge the status quo, he is insulted, absolutely, indignantly insulted that anyone could or would think he leaked the memo. (paranoia much?)
He had the memo of course; and he thought it was really bad, but he wouldn’t ever want to send it to a liberal rag like the Strib because it would be bad for the party, and the party is more important than the law, but now that the Strib does have it doesn’t mean people should ignore the charges. And by the way he’d like to remind you that on top of this illegality, Ron Carey is personally responsible for all of the Republican failures last year.
Really, I’m not kidding. The guy did all of those linguistic and logical gymnastics in like three paragraphs!
Elsewhere, Joe Repya responds,
“I am deeply concerned to have learned about the accusations against my opponent that were recently published regarding the internal complaints from Minnesota GOP Party Staff. I wish Ron Carey and his family all the best, but believe that in order for the Minnesota GOP to be successful in 2008, that it is time for change.”
And finally, the Lady Logician scolds, Markh at Loydletta compiles it all, and Blue Fella in a Red Okrug, gets it too.
Will Carey respond personally? Will anyone own up? Will AAA be able to shake off the blows landed by the Ax-handle? Is this going to end like ‘Newhart’ with everyone waking up to realize it was all just a bad dream? We’ll keep track of all of this as the Republican party continues to go into apoplectic fits a week before their leadership election.

Residual Forces has been down for quite some time as well…
Righty bloggers are engaged in the 4 D’s of Dodgeball as we speak…
Duck, dip, dive and dodge…all while slinging the mud back and forth.
It sure would be a good time for a 3rd candidate to emerge for the GOP…Carey is toast, Repya called the party despicable…
What’s Mark Kennedy up too?
Gotta love the local political drama. Actually, I’m stopping by MNPublius on behalf of the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers as I wanted to bring your attention to proposed legislation currently moving through Congress that would impose unrealistic fuel economy standards for pick-ups, minivans and SUVs. We shouldn’t let Washington implement extreme regulations that could likely raise the price of vehicles. We should instead focus on working toward alternative fuels like ethanol and other biofuels. Great work on Minnesota Matters last night too!
