The Franken campaign just sent out an e-mail blast announcing that they’ve made an ad buy criticizing Norm Coleman’s stance on the war. I e-mailed Communications Director Andy Barr for comment and got the following: “Minnesotans need to know that Norm Coleman — once again — chose to support George W. Bush’s endless war in Iraq instead of helping to bring our troops home. Throughout this campaign, Al’s going to hold him accountable for his record of standing behind this President instead of standing up for Minnesotans.”
I certainly hope Al does hold Norm accountable and I think this ad is a very good start.

UPDATE: The ad will be run in the front section of tomorrow’s Star Tribune; statewide.

I am not normally a fan of print ads. Newspapers are dead. But the beauty of this is all the earned media this will get.
Team Franken continues to impress. I am not quite in their camp yet, but if they continue to run such an interesting and innovative campaign, it will be hard to resist supporting them.
Get used to seeing normy standing arm in arm with our Criminal-and-Chief. This will be a very effective ad. Also, let me pre-emptively state, little mikey is a liar and a fraud. Al Franken does not want to cut off funding for our troops.
So Al Franken’s campaign has decided to run an ad in tomorrow’s Star Tribune about Iraq. It should be of no surprise that Franken’s campaign is spending money attacking Senator Coleman, as the most recent polls show Franken trailing Coleman by over 20%.
Franken is taking heat from Democrats over his support for the war in Iraq. I view this ad as a way for Franken to build support with the Democrats. Franken’s initial support of the war in Iraq is really hurting him the DFL base. I would expect Franken to continue to run away from his pro-war record.
Remember that after originally supporting the war in Iraq, Franken now wants to “…cut off funding for thr troops.”. This position may be popular with the DFL base, but it will hurt him statewide.
Yes, his fictional desire to cut off funding is fueling the fictiona heat from democrats. All of this info coming from the party that has nothing left but fiction.
Witness W’s last press conference. Witness Choppers claiming to be independent.
Michael,
Is there any prediction about what Minnesota voters think that you’ve been right about? I think you look at Minnesotans from your hubris laden throne and think they will buy any poop sandwich you sell them, as long as you say it tastes good.
I’m tired of poop sandwiches. Choppers loves’em.
Here’s Norm Coleman bumper sticker I made using the same level of argument as you do with your petty half truths and poop, Michael. Maybe I’ll start my print run tomorrow. Thank you for inspiration, loser. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v621/jhuth/Norm_Coleman_Teeth_sm.jpg

“I view this ad as a way for Franken to build support with the Democrats.”
A candidate spending money to attack his opponent? A candidate in a competitive primary (or endorsement process) trying to build support with the Democrats? That’s some stunning analysis. I am starting to think the MDE crowd is starting to poop their pants a little bit. I’ve had my doubts about Franken, but this is a great ad.
Michael,
This is called speaking truth to power. You are so dizzy from all the spin you try to create you can’t see it.
Jack Nicholson said it best: “You can’t handle the truth.”
Not to mention simply copying and pasting posts from his site into comments here.
And at TBQ.
And elsewhere.
Just sayin’.
Didn’t Franky support the war in the beginning? Even if you believe
that Bush fabricated every facet of the WMD story there was no reason
to think the invading Iraq was justified. Does nobody have the
courage to take an honest look at Franken and see he may not be up to
the task? Shouldn’t we look for somebody that was smart enough to
see that mistake before it happened and not just claim superiority
through hindsight? Can’t the DFL find person to run that wouldn’t have been complicit in what one the greatest foreign policy mistakes in U.S. history?
By the way the disaster that is Iraq will hurt whoever orders the
withdrawal. It will not be clean, easy or quick. There will be many
people killed both American and Iraqi. And that is if it goes well and doesn’t destabilize the region even further.
” Does nobody have the
courage to take an honest look at Franken and see he may not be up to the task?”
LOLS courage.
I recall years ago when Air America went on the air I listened to Al frequently, and he was against Bush’s HANDLING of the war on terror from the FIRST DAY he took to the airwaves. At that time, his opinion was not popular at all, the right wing attack machine was in full swing. He subjected himself to the vicious attacks from the right, and let his opinion about Bush’s handling of the war be heard anyway.
He was way ahead of many Democrats who have taken much longer to speak outabout Bush’s incompetence.
Most of us wanted to kill the terrorists. Most of us wanted the war on terror to be effective, including Al. It turns out it was not. What does Al have to do with that?
He could speak out because it was he was getting paid to be loud and dislike Republicans. To be the mirror image of Limbaugh. He had nothing to loose by doing so. He still was not against starting the war. That is the real issue and one his supporters refuse to confront.
“He could speak out because it was he was getting paid to be loud and dislike Republicans.”
That’s very misleading. He DOES dislike the Republican party’s actions. And his show was nothing like Rush Limbaugh, of course, I doubt you ever listened to The O’Franken Factor judging by your opinion. I never heard him be “loud”. Al’s somewhat mild mannered.
Ther “getting paid” talking point is an old, tired, right wing talking point. I’m surprised at you, you’re starting to let your rightie show, Kerosene.
Hey GUESS WHAT!? There were a lot of Americans who were not against starting the war. Nobody anticipated it would turn out like this.
The DFL would be much better off finding a candidate like Klobuchar (who I voted for) without the serious negatives that Franken carries.
As a swing voter I defintely could vote against Coleman but Franken’s acrimonious take on everything rubs me the wrong way and I can’t see myself voting for him.
Moose - Where, exactly, is the DFL going to find another Klobuchar? We already sent her to Washington - now we have to look realistically at who has the chops to tackle Coleman. At this point, “negatives” are something we have to accept, being that the DFL ranks are not exactly flush with exciting, failure-free, squeaky-clean candidates.
Louisa THERE ARE OTHER CANDIDATES WHO ARE RUNNING. Better candidates - more progressive candidates - more articulate candidates. Please quit promoting the notion that nobody else is stepping forward. And take the time to look at these two candidates who are also running as Democrats. Jim Cohen and Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer are putting out far more specific ideas about the issues than Franken.

If the incumbent were Ann Coulter then yeah it would make sense to run Franken. Franken is going to make Coleman look so statesmanlike. BTW Franken has promoted many ideas about Iraq including the idea that we should carve it up into three different countries - how colonial.
I don’t doubt that he genuinely dislikes republicans and was speaking his mind on his radio show. Just that elected officials that might have privately held reservations about the management of the war didn’t say anything because of the potential political cost while Franken had nothing to lose and everything to gain by being critical. I did listened to Franken and while he was not at loud as Limbaugh they were playing the same roles.
Yes there were a lot of Americans that supported the war and did not realize it would turn out like this. They were wrong and if they had thought about it wouldn’t have been. The point is that we should look to those that were smarter than that. Hillary, Edwards, Franken and so many others do not deserve the support of anybody who thinks this war was a mistake.
Thanks for the links Demure but those candidates do nothing for me - I knew they wouldn’t the second you said they’d be “more progressive” - code word for bigger government.
I want a candidate that favors smaller government and at the same time will maintain the progressive nature of our taxation system and maintain the estate tax. It’s pathetic that the biggest job growth continues, by far, to come from government employment.
Jack N-P’s economic measures are not only socialistic in nature but would lead to huge economic problems for our country. Instead of continuing to make people reliant on government we really need to get government back to creating equality of opportunity. The progressive ideal of “equality of outcome” is typically code words for getting more from the government at little personal cost.
I like Franken’s acrimonious approach. Actually it’s not all that acrimonious. If I had to describe it, I would call it carefully considered, intelligently approached, well researched, refusal to put up with any more GOP nonsense. Amy’s doing fine but I would like to see a little more fire in her belly. That’s what we need to fill Paul Wellstone’s seat.
Damn straight we’re going to be in Iraq for a long time!
With all you damn liberals whining about “torture”, “indiscriminate raids on innocent Iraqis’ homes”, and “massive waste and corruption”, it’s no wonder the war is taking as long as it has.
Just sit back, let Daddy take care of business, and we’ll let you know how awesome we did when it’s all over.
Real Michael Brokorb,
You better go doctor shopping for some more oxycotin, or perhaps maybe a vacation in the Dominican Republic would do you well, just make sure you bring the viagra.
