Demmer Has More Debt Than Cash

I was just cruising through the Congressional FEC Reports on the Hotline (wow…I feel like such a nerd after writing that) and I noticed something interesting. State Representative Randy Demmer, an announced challenger to Congressman Tim Walz, has more outstanding debt than cash on hand. Here are the numbers

Total Second Quarter Receipts - $113,625
Total Second Quarter Expenditures - $36,113
Total Debt - $95,000
Total Cash on Hand - $77,513

Pathetic.

Sen. Dick Day, the other major challenger to Walz, isn’t in much better shape. He’s got $77,380 on hand and $23,000 in debt. Congressman Walz, on the other hand, has $453,926 on hand and only $7,627 in debt.

But its not really Demmer’s fault - He’s just following the example of Republican leaders like TPaw and Bush. Demmer is running his campaign like they run the country: borrow, borrow, borrow. Remember that the next time you hear Demmer talking about how fiscally conservative he is.

The Debt of the $95,000 is whaat Demmer loaned to his campaign by taking out 2 seperate personal loans. Still not a good way to start a Congressional run. I see either him or Dick Day dropping out if their findraising numbers do not show a substantial increase by the end of 2007.

Either way, Demmer has to repay that money no matter what. I wonder what he used for collateral??? His reputation???

Money is important, but it is not more important than message.

How does Walz, for example, feel about the Iraq war? I’d love to see some posts about that.

Cripes, if you don’t know how Walz feels about the Iraq War, you aren’t trying very hard. He is pretty up front about it and this blog reports it well. Also try just about any daily newspaper in the 1st Congressional District, in print or online. If that is too hard, you don’t really want to know.

I know how he feels, I just want to see more posts about that rather than moola stories, that’s all I’m saying.

Don’t “cripes” me, please. “Cripes” our National conversation about these issues.

Walz is “against” the war but uses the Bush line of “supporting the troops” to justify voting to fund it. He plays both sides of the game like most politicians and calls it “representing the diverse views of my constituency”. In other words he is just another charismatic “public servant” that has to make “tough decisions”.

this is an asinine post. many candidates loan themselves money. the poster boy for this is former U.S. Senator and now NJ Gov Jon Corzine…..

try to stick to something a little simpler, like state house races with Steve Drazkowsky.

this post is a waste of space. MDE would never put up such a post and that’s why he is the preeminent MN blogger.

Yes MDE does and has. I cannot recall every post, but there is a lot of redundance there that most people can detect.
