Senator Norm Coleman’s Father dies at 82

From the AP:

WASHINGTON (Map, News) - The father of Sen. Norm Coleman, Norm Coleman Sr., died Thursday after a battle with cancer, the senator’s office said.

The elder Coleman was 82.

“During this time of grief, Sen. Coleman and his family ask for your thoughts and prayers,” said the senator’s spokesman, LeRoy Coleman. “As a decorated World War II veteran, he will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery.”

Coleman is a first-term Republican senator from Minnesota.

We make no secret of the fact here at MNpublius that we gravely disagree with Senator Coleman’s politics in almost every manner but the loss of a loved one is a grievous situation that every human being can empathize with. Our hearts are out to Senator Coleman and his family in this time of mourning; we extend our sincere and deep condolences.

It is all too often in the continuous battle that is partisan politics that we lose a little bit of perspective of the sacrifices every one of our elected representatives make to serve. Regardless of our many and deep disagreements that we may have with Senator Coleman, he has given much of his life and himself to serve this nation. That, in of itself, requires acknowledgment. And it is something that I am sure gave his father much warranted pride.

No more Norm Coleman posts will appear here until next week in recognition of his loss. Please keep all comments respectful or they will be removed at my first opportunity.
