The Pressure’s On: Ads Target Coleman

With Senator Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) announcing that she’s co-sponsoring (the 2nd Republican to do so; Sen Gordon Brown of Oregon being the first) a bill ordering the troops out of Iraq by April 30th of 2008, more and more eyes are looking to Senator Coleman. Being that Senator Coleman is known to be a waffler among DC insiders and that he’s facing the political battle of his life in ‘08, groups around the nation are putting political pressure on the Senator to change his mind on the war. Whether Coleman is willing to break his strong ties to the Bush admin’s policy, however, remains to be seen. After all, this is the guy that compared President Bush to Abraham Lincoln, and just last week issued a statement supporting the President’s unbelievable commutation of Scooter Libby.

The situation is a difficult one for Coleman as he has shown time and time again that he wants to be perceived as a war skeptic but has always refused to walk away from the President’s plan in Iraq. Let’s hope, for the sake of our troops and our national security, that Norm finally sees the light.

In can only be characterized as an extreme oversight, we failed to post Americans United for Change’s new ad targeting Coleman. Better late than never:
