Yesterday, I wrote about a short story buried at the end of a piece in “The Hill” a few weeks ago.
The official recalled a trip that former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.), former Sen. Mike DeWine (R-Ohio) and Sen. Norm Coleman (R-Minn.) took a few years ago to Pakistan.
“When the senators went to Kabul on a military plane, the three spouses of Frist, DeWine and Coleman had a separate C-120 take them to Bahrain to take a windshield tour of the city and to shop,” the official said.
I called Sen. Coleman’s DC Press Office yesterday and today to ask the following questions:
1) Did the government pick up the full cost of the shopping trip to Bahrain?
2) If so, how much did it cost?
I still haven’t heard back.
Meanwhile, even Swiftee thinks Norm was out of line on this one:
We shouldn’t be footing the travel bill for the spouses of our elected rep’s under any circumstances. Certianly not for shopping binges.

I think he was out of line if you have the story straight.
BTW….
Have you done any digging into the travel arrangements of the Democrat delegations? I’d be very surprised to find that this kind of thing is not one of the very few truly bipartisan activities on the hill.
Prove me wrong, and your prize will be a quote from Swiftee ripping the GOP! (You’ll forgive me if I don’t hold my breath)
…speaking of “The Hill” magazine. James McBroom/James Broom Wellstone also made it on the cover page of The Hill magazine on Aug 6th.
I listened to 1280am at 630pm last night and was very concerned that Sean Broom called Broom/Wellstone a “Stalker”
Even more so Sean Broom said that James McBroom changed his name to James McBroom Wellstone when it is James Broom Wellstone.
Sean is not competent enough to comment when he doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
I FOR ONE WILL NEVER RESPOND TO A SEAN BROOM POST EVER.
It wouldn’t surprise me if Norm used his own money on that trip. He’s been paid $650,000 from the drug companies since 2002 so he should still have money.
….but then again why would he use his money when he can steal from us. Please look further into this matter Zack
Oh heaven forbid — you aren’t going to respond to one of my posts ever! I will surely miss out. Sean
It’s not as if blog comments can be traded in for money or tickets to see a movie. Perhaps a more effective form of protest would be not reading the blog and deny it page views, thereby decreasing Publius’ blogads revenue. But I’m guessing you’d rather have something to whine about.
Swiftee — I don’t get it. It’s wrong if only one party does it, but it’s okay if both parties do it? Or is your moral rage diminished as long as you can point fingers at some Democrats?
Ethics should not be a partisan issue, but condemnation seems to be. I can visualize the “Democrats are silent when it’s one of their own post coming. I won’t argue either way on that, but I will just say that they shouldn’t be, and, if they are, that does not excuse Republicans for their silence.
James Broom Wellstone WAS GETTING VIDEO TAPPED AND INTERVIEWED TODAY IN THE DFL BOOTH BY THE DFL??????
PLEASE SOMEBODY GET THAT AND YOU TUBE IT. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE IF HE IS MENTALLY DISTURBED LIKE THAT LOSER WHO WILL BE FIRED ANY DAY SAID..
GOOD JOB ON NO SEAN BROOM POSTS.
YOU TUBE WHATEVER THE DFL RECORDED TODAY FROM JAMES BROOM WELLSTONE…..I WOULD LOVE TO SEE IT.
…AND BROOM …..Please start You Tubing or doing video’s!!! We all want to hear and see what you have to say.
I’m not a military aviation expert but while I was trying to research what the fuel and operating costs of the C120 were…I couldn’t.
As in, I can’t find a current tranport vehicle in use with that designation. The only think that comes close is the Fairchild XC-120 Packplane and only one was ever built. The anonymous source which is the source of the story should be contacted again to clear up the story.
If anyone has any info on what plane be could have meant (or if there is a current C120) would be helpful
Excellent point Noah. I think they must have been referring to the C-12 (who knows where the extra zero got put in) a plane used for (and this is according to wikipedia, so not the best source) embassy support. I will try to dig into this more…
Randy says: “I don’t get it. It’s wrong if only one party does it, but it’s okay if both parties do it? Or is your moral rage diminished as long as you can point fingers at some Democrats?”
I think I was about as plain as possible. If Norm flew his family to a foreign country on our dime, he was wrong. Period. End of story.
Capiche?
My added commentary pointed out that if one cared to dig any deeper (not that I expect a Democrat to uncover anything that might provide a discordant resonance in the ‘bat cave), they would find that abuse of power knows no party affiliation.
Which is why the true conservative wants to shrink governmental interference to within the bounds set by the constitution, without regard to party lines.
Zach - good call. The C-12 is the obvious choice. I’m trying to calculate what the flight would cost..
Also looking at travel disclosures. It’s slim pickings - turns out many of the records must be requested IN PERSON in D.C.
