Sturdevant Predicts DFL Win in 28B

PfeilstickerIn yesterday’s Star Tribune columnist Lori Sturdevant predicted a win for the DFL in the special election down in 28B tomorrow:

An even bigger change just might be possible — or so say ordinarily sane observers of southeastern Minnesota politics. They whisper that this area just might elect a DFLer on Tuesday.

The Iraq war was said to be the issue then driving votes to the Dems. If anything, the war is making Minnesota voters more unhappy today.

The other thing is the tragedy Wednesday night on Interstate Hwy. 35W in Minneapolis. Transportation adequacy and safety suddenly lurched to the top of every Minnesota list of legislative concerns.

On that issue, Drazkowski and Pfeilsticker offer voters a pronounced difference. Drazkowski is foursquare against an increase in the gas tax, or any tax for that matter. He’s content for the state to borrow more highway money, service the debt with existing taxes and invest about one-tenth the amount that road experts say is needed in the next 10 years to prevent further deterioration in Minnesotans’ mobility or safety.

This would be, needless to say, amazing.

Like Ms. Sturdevant I would usually be hesitant to predict that such a red seat might go the way of a DFLer, but the MN GOP is on the run. The mess that is their party nationally had left them on the ropes for over a year and regardless of the premature stage of the 35W investigation we’re in, the party knows that their abysmal record on transportation will be a liability at least in the short term. In light of these two factors (not to mention Linda’s own stunning merits and Draz’s equally stunning detriments) leaves me cautiously optimistic for tomorrow.

But, of course, it’s all in the hands of the voters of 28B and dedicated volunteers at this point. So, if you’re down in 28B know that TOMORROW IS ELECTION DAY. And if you’re in district or the surrounding area, I’m sure Linda would appreciate all the help she can get tomorrow — get involved!

are those Linda’s kids in the picture?

I think you attacked Dan Ochsner for a similiar photo when he ran for office, using a photo with a baby — the lefty bloggers claimed this was misleading.

Since we know Linda is single with no kids (Eve Young supposedly outed Linda)…..will you criticize Linda for this misleading photo that is on all her campaign literature?

    Ghost,

That is so not about issues.

Lori Sturdevant’s campaign pieces are becoming too predictable. The one thing you can predict is that she is always wrong in her last minute predictions to put a DFL candidate over the top.

    Drazkowski cleared of assault charge

A Wabasha County jury last week cleared Steve Drazkowski of a charge he assaulted his 14-year-old daughter in October.

The 41-year-old Republican candidate for Senate District 28 still must avoid his daughter under a temporary restraining order filed by his ex-wife.

After the jury verdict last week, Drazkowski said Minnesota laws go “too far” and are “very oppressive.”

“Upon my election to the state senate, I will work diligently to reform our child protection laws, so that we can prevent these breaches of justice in the future,” he said. “We must encourage common sense parenting in which children are held accountable for their actions.

Still, X will win by 3:1. If not, we got trouble here in River City.

It might be worthwhile to have people make predictions on the special today, specific percentages. That way nobody can spin what a “real” win/lose is.

This could be described as a lean-GOP district, not a hard GOP. Please see the results of the last election there.

With Republican id below Watergate levels, and the sleazy campaign run by the Democrats to get Republicans to stay home, it will be interesting to see how Drazkowski does.
He has clearly outworked his opponent and wants it more. That wins most of the time.

I predict he wins by less than 100 votes.

Nice picture, her “partner” is mysteriously missing!

It looks like two things we’ll be getting from the Republicans today:
    1. She MAY be gay (always a motivation that increase GOP turnout).
    2. The District is not that Republican- though for years it was represent by both, the GOP House and Senate Leader. —  — -

As a former MnPublius contributor used to say, ‘weak sauce’.

I guess when you nominate an abusive man who’s such an asshole that he accused his own party of cheating against him and had charges filed against him by his ex-wife and daughter at different times based on their fear of violence from him, then you’d better call your opponent gay.

2008 is going to be a great year- maybe I should take on Ramstad.

Lets see. Draz Whips Gay Chick. No.

Rural Values Beats the Crap Out of Farmer With Comfortable Shoes. No.

Girl Teacher Gets What She Deserves on First Attempt. No.

Fringe Candidate Barely Defends Safe Seat From Lilith. Not quite.

28B -Conservative Stronghold- Rejects Rightwing Extremist as Too Far Out. Better.

Swigg Privately Relieved After Close Call. It’s Pfeilstcker By 5%. That,s it.

    Lori Sturdevant gets it wrong….again.

Actually, voters, according to the KSTP poll like the Governor’s handeling of the bridge crisis and also reject a huge gas tax increase.

There was huge turnout. That should have been good for Pfeilsticker. As it turns out, she would have won nearly every special election in the past decade (except one) with her raw votes.

Congratulations to Linda on a very strong short race. She and her campaign should feel very good about the effort and the impressive turn out.

What will be really interesting is when we find out how much money the DFL Caucus, Education Minnesota and the other unions put into Pfielsticker’s race. I predict that we’ll see that they spent more than $50 a vote. It’s pretty interesting that in a bad year for Republicans that the DFL wasn’t able to gin up enough anger to get enough votes out to win the seat.

    DJZ,

Funny you talked about Pfielsticker and the gay issue. It wasn’t even an issue in the district, although it most certainly appears that Eva Young (not a Republican supporter) outed Pfielsticker. Again, it wasn’t an issue in the race, but it’s pretty funny how desperate you were to try to make it one.
