Considering the way Luther acted during the AG primary, I can't see a lot of DFLers getting excited about a Luther candidacy. I think a lot of people would be pretty skeptical about how serious he was about it.

He was a fine Congressman and did good work, but this race looks like a bad fit, so it's probably best that he not jump in.

The comments about the 5th are a bit out of line, IMHO. It's not like DFLers were suddenly moving into the district to run for the safe seat; it became a free for all when Sabo retired rather unexpectedly and fairly late in the cycle. None of the people who ran need to apologize for Minneapolis being a DFL stronghold.

It's amazing how dialog is discouraged so frequently on this blog. "You should just say 'thank you' and shut your mouth" - wow. Aren't blogs supposed to be about lively exchanges? It's disturbing that on this one there are some subjects that are completely off-limits..the recent Founders Day Post comes to mind.
But in this exchange Matt apparently believes one must couch ones basic idea carefully so as not to offend - show deference to all...well probably not all...deference to Matt's candidate. What hogwash - Magnumus should be able to post a pitty position statement without being told to shut up, i.e., with out being encouraged to self-censor. And Matt if your last post was supposed to be an apology - it wasn't...it was more criticism of Magnumus... Magnumus didn't post the right way - needs to work on style....blah blah blah... Icky icky icky.

Ioannes, if your sentiment in your second comment was what you were trying to say in the first, you didn't do it justice by simply saying "it's time to move on..." That came across as snide and disrespectful. I can, however, understand where you're coming from now that you've explained yourself better although I would respectfully disagree with your conclusion.

Zack:

Can you or Matt, or Sean interview this Wellstone candidate?

I read about this guy in the D.C. papers and the St. Paul Legal-Ledger.

As crazy as it may sound, I think we could have a very enjoyable time electing this "potential" loon and watch him stand up to the drug companies and big business.

Shut my mouth, its people like you Mike who just want to recycle the same old guard DFL candidates who will lose (again). Its time for the DFL to enter the 21st century. Bill Luther was good, scratch that, great in his day, but his time is passed and we need fresh horses.

Ioannes:

Bill Luther held very difficult congressional districts for the DFL for many years. He didn't just seek out a "safe" seat like all the yahoos in the fifth district race or, even, this third district race.

You should just say "thank you" and shut your mouth.
