Mike Michael Brodkorb is shocked (Shocked I tell you!!) about Al Franken’s campaign calling the political stunt perpetrated by the Senate Republicans ‘ridiculous’ and a ‘waste of time’
The exact quote if you will…
“Asked how Franken would have voted, campaign spokesman Andy Barr said that Franken ‘thought the resolution was ridiculous and a waste of the Senate’s valuable time - which could have been better spent voting to bring the troops home.’
Appropriately timed shock is key to Brodkorb’s thing… well… whatever that thing is.
And then hark! Who should be heard in the wilderness but a full page ad from the Coleman campaign attacking Al Franken.
What should make all of us scratch our heads is why exactly after spending thousands of dollars trying to score political points against Al Franken, did Norm Coleman vote against a Senate Resolution supporting our veterans? In a simple sense of the Senate resolution, a bipartisan group of Senators declared,
To reaffirm strong support for all the men and women of the United States Armed Forces and to strongly condemn attacks on the honor, integrity, and patriotism of any individual who is serving or has served honorably in the United States Armed Forces, by any person or organization.
It’s time for Senator Coleman to stop playing politics, and start working on supporting our veterans.
There is going to be more on this, stay tuned.

Why does Norm Coleman hate America’s First Amendment?
When will Coleman denounce the hateful comments of Ann Coulter, or the misleading ads by Freedom Watch?
Why does Al Franken claim he supports the troops, but then suggest that Democrats “…cut off their funding”?
Why does Al Franken claim he’s in “awe” of the troops, but when it comes to defending a member of the military, he calls it “ridiculous and a waste of the Senate’s valuable time”?
Where is this war leading this country, Michael?? Only deeper in debt and more divided. Norm Coleman has done nothing right by the people of Minnesota the more he aligns himself with President Bush’s Policy on Iraq. The way to end this war is to stop the funding of it and get our troops home.
Bush was given authority by the Houses of Congress in 2002 to use Military intervention as a “last resort” in Iraq. Military intervention and invasion was the the first and only option of Bush regarding Iraq. This war has been mismanaged and bungled from the very beginning.
Do us a favor, Michael, and stop spinning this as a “better to fight them there than here” GOP Talking points. It’s wearing thin.
Micheal B. Brodkorb,
I would bet that a majority of Minnesotans would agree with Al Franken on the issues. I would also bet that Minnesotans have gotten quite an education on the abuse of spin and talking points in right wing politics the last 6 years, and realize what we end up with after the election is not quite what people had hoped for. The people of Minnesota are smarter than you think, Micheal.
Unfortunately for you, for your ad nauseum to work, the talking points and smears you craft must be repeated without questioning them. Well what I’ve seen is people starting to question them. For example, the recent news that Condaleeza Rice has offered appearances on Sunday morning talk shows and has been turned down because she offers nothing more than well circulated talking points and nothing new. Times have changed, Micheal, and for your own good it may be time to move on to a different strategy.
But you won’t will you. Good. Bring it on. You and your Republican candidates should feel free to move forward with a full arsenal of misleading talking points, smears, half truths, and half witted op eds. Keep doing what you’ve always been doing, because it’s worked out rather well for you. Make sure it’s the same old crap we’ve all heard over and over and over again. I’ll be enjoying every minute of it.
“Why does Al Franken claim he supports the troops, but then suggest that Democrats “…cut off their funding”?”
Why do republicans keep making the FALSE claim that wanting to stop funding the war is “not supporting the troops”?
“Why does Al Franken claim he’s in “awe” of the troops, but when it comes to defending a member of the military, he calls it “ridiculous and a waste of the Senate’s valuable time”?”
When that member of the military goes before congress and lays out a steaming pile of BS, he doesn’t deserve being defended. Spare us the faux outrage!
Norm Coleman is done. Unfortunately for him, he is now on legacy time. Unless he suddenly goes against the war, being one of the first Republicans to demand an immediate withdrawal - or something to that effect - and starts co-sponsoring bills that actually do address the middle class in this country, he will simply get the votes of those who are wedded to the right, even when the right has clearly gone wrong. And, even if he does make a radical turnaround, maybe even becoming a defacto populist democrat again, he will then be going up against Franken and Cirisi on their own terms, which he stands no chance with.
So, in the end, the best work he can do is in leaving a legacy of good works behind him. Maybe following the Jim Ramstad model. Jim co-sponsored a lot of really good environmental bills, for example. In any case, we might as well admit that Coleman is a lost cause unless the leading Democrats suddenly disappears in a plane crash or what have you. Oops! Did I say that? Yes, I did.
Even if that happens and Coleman wins another round, he will end up going populist anyway, because we will have a massive majority in the House and Senate, and White House will no longer be under right wing occupation. Times are changing whether we want them to or not. It is in the best interest of every politician to pass good legislation that addresses undue climate change, fuel efficiency standards, accessible health care and education, and to reverse Bush tax cuts to the wealthy as a small step toward bringing back to life the middle class in this country.
I applaude Angry Al for standing tall on the dung heap waving the Moron.com flag. Furthermore, I sincerely hope that Moron.com takes full advantage of it’s 1st Amendment rights at every opportunity!
