I was suppose to meet Mark Anderson of the Paul Wellstone staff out in Washington D.C. 24 hours before Paul’s flight went down.
At that time in my life I was working on a drug plan for collectively speaking 3.5 million teachers K-12. Last October 1st,2006 Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota lost 80 million dollars annually a year in prescription drug business. They lost way more than that. The 80million annually was only the prescription drug plan.
Health Partners won the whole bid.
A non-profit organization White Buffalo Pharmacy(Which is no longer active but White Buffalo Rx is) was awarded the prescription drug bid.
What that meant is any teacher who now has Health Partners would have options.
Either get your drugs from your local drug store, or order from the approved vendor White Buffalo Pharmacy.
If you ordered from White Buffalo Pharmacy there was no co-pay and you would recieve 3to100 dollars back per order.
This 80 million in business annually was only a drop in the bucket to what was to follow.
What would’ve follwed is all 7 service co-ops in Minnesota which is 25% of Blue Cross Nationally.
When you are collectively speaking Blue Cross’s largest customer, they have to listen.
Well with the prescription drug plan aspect that was submitted by WBP we had Blue Cross undercut by 50%
Thus saving the Education industry roughly 40 million dollars a year, just for starters. Not to mention 5to7 million a year that would’ve went to tribal humanitarian needs right out of the gate. I didn’t do this to get rich, I did it cause it had to get done.
This was the 1st time in 20years Big Blue lost a bid in that regard.
During that time they had a great advertising campaign called “Don’t be shy ask a Broom to dance” Ya gotta love um those crazy bastards. Broom has been my nickname for the last 20years.
Anyways I have confirmation that WBP won the bid. Then it got yanked and Health Partners walked with 100% of the business. the bid from WBP got yanked due to some crazy allegations. So crazy that if they would’ve pursued me I would’ve ran for the U.S. Senate against Amy and Mark and made some nice things come to light…at that point a truce was drawn.
The moral of the story is I feel LARGELY responsible for not only creating the best drug plan I’ve ever seen but also for Big Blue losing 80million yearly in regards to prescriptions
