A dedicated reader of MNPublius has just pointed us to this campaign website, Ashwin Madia For Congress.
Mr. Madia is currently an associate at Robins Miller Kaplan & Ciresi, and is an Iraq War Vet. He lists a five point platform, ending the war in Iraq, balancing the budget, addressing global warming, reducing health care costs and readjusting our national focus on education.
With the election of Bobby Jindal to the Governors office in Louisiana maybe it’s time to send another Indian American back to the House of Representatives.
Stay tuned to MNPublius as the race to replace Ramstad heats up!

he’s cute. that may be reason enough for me, :)
His sister is the cute one. Interesting candidate, but out of nowhere. Always good to see proud Marines running for office and folks who decide they need to run in the face of an “establishment” candidate already otherwise clearing the field; I wish him luck.
Is that….is that Bruce Springsteen playing in the background?
Who?
He really needs to ditch the music and the flash, but otherwise he looks interesting. I imagine Iraq will be a major point of contrast between Bonoff and him.
It’s actually John Mellencamp…I’m liking it, hopefully he can shake things up a bit.
Its John Mellancamp.
It seems like the site just went up, and the flash and the music are holding the place and serving as a good introduction.
I don’t know - I’ll be disappointed if no information follows, but I think its a better start than just a still picture. Trys to put a frame on a the campaign, because lets face it: he may be a former Marine. He may be a lot less radical than Ellison.
He’s still going to catch a lot of the same crap, I think we can be sadly sure. If Brodkerb isn’t preparing a post on him feeding into his readerships…. sensibilities… I will be very surprised.
Of course, all that being said, I kind of hope he does well. We don’t know how serious of a candidate he is, but I think a vigorous nomination fight is exactly what the 3rd CD DFL needs to get it thinking congressionally again after years and years of a safe GOP candidate locking out who ever the DFL fielded.
And if Madia can catch fire, more power to him. Competent fresh blood is always a good thing.
The 3rd will stay in Republican hands. Ramstad won because he had an “R” behind his name just as Ellison won because he had a “D” behind his in the 5th.
Somehow the DFL is thinking the voters of the 3rd are now going to just switch to voting for a democrat?? Ramstad is in trouble with his base for voting the way he has. The left of the state would like to have you believe he was so well liked because he would vote often with the democrats, but in fact many in the 3rd had expressed how upset they were and wanted Ramstad gone.
Big Kahuna -
I have no doubt that much of the republican base didn’t like Ramstad, but the rest of your comment is hogwash. I think you’re confusing the 3rd with the 6th. Over the last two cycles DFLers have been unseating republican legislators all over the 3rd district.
If you actually look a the data you’ll also see that a lot of Democrats voted for Ramstad, and that generally folks in the 3rd have an easier time splitting tickets than elsewhere in the state. People voted for Ramstad because he was Ramstad. He presented a very good image of being a nice guy and spent an enormous amount of energy doing constituent services.
Without him on the ballot everything changes.
This guy is HOT!
