Sen. Norm Coleman (R-Minn.) plans to endorse the presidential campaign of former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, according to Republican sources.
It’s a union of two Brooklyn-native, non-Protestant former mayors.
UPDATE: Al Franken Communications Director Andy Barr released the following statement:
So the Senator who didn’t think Halliburton’s war profiteering was worth investigating is endorsing the candidate who wanted to put Bernie Kerik in charge of Homeland Security. Makes sense to us!

Not sure why the non-Protestant comment is there. Are you saying a Protestant person is more qualified than a non-Protestant?
Wait, wait! What happened to McCain?
Come one, yep, nowhere does Zack even come close to implying that a Protestant is more qualified than a non-Protestant. He only stated that both are non-Protestant (which is a fact). Stop trying to create a scene! You’re not going to be picketing the Democratic convention are you, you rabble rouser?
He could have said non-blacks, non-women, non-homosexual (openly anyway), non-felons (convicted anyway). I wonder why that descriptor made the cut?
I’m not sure why using a non descriptor in front of one’s religion is relevant. I wouldn’t use it to describe Democrat candidates, you shouldn’t use it to describe Republican candidates.
It is also the union of two party-switchers.
Max is right to ask what happened to Senator McCain. I’ll bet a certain Governor is kicking himself these days.
You mean like, “Bat shit crazy right wing Christian Conservative Evangelical Congresswoman Bachmann
you guys are dopes. the article says the non-protestant comment. zack is quoting it. bring up your complaints with the Politico…
Didn’t realize he was quoting Politico. My problems are obviously with Poiltico not Zack. Please accept my apologies.
I may be mistaken, (likely not) but I believe Norm has far more years here in MN than Franken.
One New Yorker endorses another…does that mean Al Franken has endorsed Hillary? Oh wait, neither of them are really New Yorkers (although Franken has lived in New York longer than Coleman by far). Maybe that headline would read One Carpetbagger endorses another.
Yeah, what Hillary did in NY was inexcusable. Moves there just before the election and runs for Senator, boxing some very qualified and committed locals out of the scene with her highly publicized name and easy access to money.
Wait………..
Senator Coleman is from Brooklyn, as is Rudy Giuliani. I don’t see why it has to be an issue. I’ll wager a lot of Minnesotans have some family ties to that part of the city (Brooklyn once boasted the largest Norwegian community in the United States).
Of course, Mark Forehead-Kennedy used to spend a lot of campaign time bragging about how many generations his family had been in Minnesota.
Martin Sabo is from North Dakota, as is Jim Ramstad. Michelle Bachman is from Iowa. Keith Ellison is from Michigan.
My favorite Governor of all-time, the definition of a Moderate, Arne Carlson, was also from Brooklyn.
All this talk about where someone is from is irrelevant.
Adding to that, Paul Wellstone was born in Virginia and went to college in North Carolina.
I will say one thing, though, if you come from the Range, the voters up there will stick with you.
because Zach is a bigot…he hates evangelical christians…that is why he thought religion was relevant….the hater
