Man, this has quickly become a big news day in Minnesota politics.
Eric Black has the scoop: Rachel Paulose has resigned as Minnesota’s U.S. Attorney to accept a postion in the Justice Department.
This post will be updated with analysis later in the evening.
UPDATE:
So, people are outraged that a under-qualified partisan was given a high ranking government position because of her loyalty to Bush, and the Administration’s solution is to give her a promotion?
Wow.
Michael Mukasey just failed his first test as Attorney General.

Damn, I figured the notice would come out later this week. Good thing I didn’t put any money behind my bet.
If the president was smart (insert joke here), he would think seriously about appointing Kathleen Blatz to the job. She’s a GOP insider, former state legislator, District Court Judge, and Chief Justice of the State Supreme Court. She’s got a reputation as an impartial judge, and would be a good custodian of the office until the next election.
Point of interest: Blatz is the former Chief Justice.
NICE!!!!!!!
LOLOLS!!!!
I would enjoy some spin from the trolls, please. Dish it out, trolls. I need some fodder.
Hefelfinger?
Spin? Nope.
You guys got what you wanted. I’ll pick my battles, and this isn’t one that would be smart to pick.
Let’s hope they can find a good person to do this lame duck job for a year. It is a good enough resume builder so hopefully they can do a broader search than simply looking at recent bureaucrat retirees.
I’m not sure this is really a promotion. This looks like a face-saving way to shuffle her ass out of the job before things get worse and the whole office quits on her. She may have little real influence in her new job. The new position is also one that’s much more limited in scope and doesn’t appear to have any management responsibilities (which is certainly a no-confidence vote in my book).
This is actually one of the smarter things they could have done. It gets the incompetant one out of the spotlight, out of the state, stops the bleeding in the USA’s office, and shunts her off to an office where she’ll pretty much never be heard from again. Too bad it took so long and things got so screwed up in what was a fine office. (The last several USA’s in MN have all been very good, whether D or R, until this nonsense)
Increased productivity, lower costs (all the high buck people quit), taking on child pornography, human traficking, thank God we are rid of her! Hopefully Bush gets a brain after Gonzo and Paulose and picks a regular white guy so things can get back to normal…
