Mike Ciresi’s campaign for Senate has hit on it’s message and it looks like it’s getting some traction around the state, showing up today in a good write up in the Mesabi Daily News,
‘“The more and more people get to know me I think they’re seeing that I’ve had proven leadership in the state for 35 years. I’ve been someone who has invested back in the state and I’m someone who can get things done,’ Ciresi said.”
Today has been an important one on our race to Rockchester 2008 (the pithy yet charming name I’ve given the DFL endorsing convention in Rochester) and we’ll have more on the road to Rock.

St. Louis County was Ciresi’s worst area in the state in 2000. (11%) Of course, the fact that homeboy Jerry Janezich was running probably accounted for a lot of that. There haven’t been any primary polls conducted yet, but the most recent general election SUSA poll shows Franken leading Coleman 54%-40% in Northeast Minnesota, and Ciresi leading Coleman by 51%-45% in that same region.
JNP is losing to Coleman 42%-47% in the Northeast.
Guy-Who-Got-Lost-In-Downtown-St.-Paul-One-Day-And-Accidentally-Filed-For-Office is trailing Coleman by 43%-46% in the NE.
I did a campaign trip to the range with Ciresi in his first campaign for the senate in 2000. I was plesantly surprised by the reception he got from the locals there. Jerry Janezich was clearly the favorite because of his local status, but Mike was able to relate to the folks in the union halls and the local restaurants in a natural way that was very encouraging.
I think the thing that Ciresi brings to the campaign that no one else does is his reputation for being the most prepared guy in what ever contest he is involved in. His legal research is legendary. He is always on top of the facts/issues, and if he is stumped by a question from a voter, you can bet he will know the answer if he is ever asked again.
If I wasn’t living on the beach in Hawaii I’d be working for his campaign…
I think that his progress thus far indicates that he will be much more successful state-wide than he was in 2000.
