The Colemeleon Strikes Again

Et Tu Norm?

Norm Coleman was once one of Minnesota U.S. Attorney Rachel Palouse’s strongest supporters - he called her “absolutely brilliant” and characterized her as an “extremely competent and capable professional.”

In fact, Norm recommended Paulose’s selection as U.S. Attorney to George Bush.

But the winds have changed and, predictably, so has Coleman’s position on Paulose.
He just asked the new Attorney General to investigate Paulose.

Norm is trying to run away from stories like this one in the New York Times, which says that Paulose is an example of U.S. Attorney’s that had “relatively little experience as prosecutors or managers but were considered fiercely loyal to the Bush administration.”

Apparently Norm lacks the loyalty that he so prizes in a U.S. Attorney.colemeleon-tm.jpg

I think Senator Coleman got hosed on this one. I don’t know if he found Ms. Paulose, or if someone in Washington told him to recommend her.

Either way, a good lesson in the price of loyalty to Our Beloved Leader. I give him some credit for starting to bail on her.

What’s interesting is Paulose was actually foisted upon Norm. She wasn’t on the list he’d suggested. In normal times, the senior Senator of the majority party gets to suggest candidates. Norm quickly included her once she was foisted upon us by the DoJ.
