…the most important thing is to put down the shovel. Rachel Paulose, however, can’t help but keep digging.
In case you missed it, Paulose publicly defended herself for the first time on Friday. Facing charges that she is a partisan and an ideologue who was chosen for her job not because of her managerial or prosecutorial skills but rather for her loyalty to President Bush and the conservative cause, Paulose bravely confronted her critics by speaking with reporters for mainstream media outlets including the Star Tribune and the Pioneer Press. Wait…no…thats not what happened at all. Paulose actually talked to Scott Johnson of Powerline in an interview that was posted on the National Review Online.
So, to be clear, facing charges that she is a partisan hack, Paulose chose to talk to another partisan hack who published the interview in a conservative magazine. A counterintuitive strategy, to say the least.
Paulose’s comments have been raising some eyebrows as well. Eric Black does an excellent job of dissecting the interview. Well worth the read for anyone following this story.

I thought Johnson’s point (not sure if it was on that article or at The Claremont Institute) that if Paulouse’s story of a young, ambitious, female of Indian descent making on the rise like this occured on the Democratic side, the person would be viewed as a superstar. Because it is on the Republican side, it is fair game for the ripping (after all, we’re all supposed to be fat, selfish white men, right?)
No, Dan, we’re supposed to be competent, or at least qualified for the important, powerful job we hold.
Eric Black has breaking news: more high-ranking officials of the Minnesota U.S. Attorney’s Office resigned…”.
I wonder what Paulose thinks to accomplish here. Does she think that by complaining early and often to the right-wing blogs and other assorted right-wing friendly media outlets that she can make enough counter-claims against her accusers that it might be written off as nothing more than a partisan witch hunt and she can continue as she’s gone?
Or is she setting up a book and tour for when she finally gets kicked to the curb?
Or a fellowship at the Center for the American Experiment, where she can sit and kvetch full time.
Scott Johnson has joined up with True North. True North also has Swiftee on their roster. Besides Swiftee, True North has a contributor with an assault rifle and Bachmann’s ex-lesbian sidekick.
Dantheman-
I thought that complaining that someone had been promoted to a high position based on their diverse background when they lacked the ability to do the job was traditionally a Republican complaint about those bleeding heart Democrats only caring about politics?
The problem with Paulouse is that she was unable to do her job, and was viewed to be picking cases for political purposes (instead of, y’know, enforcing the law). While I am optimistic about the new AG (even if I thought he shouldn’t have been confirmed, he’s there now, and lets make the best), the rot Gonzales introduced can’t just be repaired at the top. It has to be pursued all the way down the line, and all of the apparatchiks who don’t have the qualifications or the ability for their jobs need to be fired.
Lets start a pool. I say she gets axed at 4:00 this Friday.
I’m not arguing that she is perfect for her job. I’m arguing that if it was the GOP attacking a Dem, and personal story would emerge in a big way and we (GOP) would be shamed for shunning such a pioneer.
11 minutes ago…The AP says: WASHINGTON (AP) — Rachel Paulose, the embattled U.S. attorney for Minnesota, will be leaving the post to take a position at the Justice Department in Washington, according to a Bush administration official and congressional aide.
Dantheman-
And I’d say that was more smoke-screen. The issue here is that Paulouse was a hack who couldn’t do her job, not her last name or background. Besides, I’d say this is a moot point now.
