Coleman Looking Past Election?
Maybe he’s feeling confident? Sen. Norm Coleman, R-Minn., has emerged as one of two senators interested in chairing the Senate Republicans’ campaign wing in the 2009-2010 election cycle, Roll Call newspaper reported this morning. The National Republican Senatorial Committee, or NRSC, is currently chaired by Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev.
Roll Call reports the top two candidates appear to be Coleman, who is seeking a second term next year and is considered one of the top Democratic targets, and Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn. Both are considered moderates who would be tapped for their fundraising and election strategy acumen rather then ideological leanings.
Coleman’s press flack said that his boss was focused on the here and now but his response contained the artful turn of phrase “[Sen. Coleman] has taken no steps toward chairing the NRSC.”
The article doesn’t say that Coleman has taken any steps towards chairing the NRSC, just that he’s expressed interest in it. Never let it be said that “Smilin’ Norm Coleman” isn’t ambitious, just wish he wasn’t such a mediocre Senator; that’s all.

Being wishy-washy & a party hack willing to do the bidding - is seen as being a MODERATE?
Oh puh’leeeeze! Coleman is the very type of senator people rail against as looking out for ol’ number one.
This is classic spin cycle. Acting “as if.” Positioning Colemeleon as a Senate veteran, as someone who has a future there, as a good ol’ boy with staying power. Point of fact, Colemeleon got his job because Paul Wellstone died. Period. End of that story. Caught the people with their guard down. Not going to happen again. Colemeleon is a Bush Republican. Say it, over and over again. Cheek to cheek with BushCo, even when he’s tap dancing to distract us from seeing his slithery self. He is toast.
Another liberal who thinks the senate seat still belongs to Wellstone, the most ineffective politician we have ever had.
Wellstone was well on his way to a loss before the plane crash, folks had quite enough of that joker.
A well-known Wellstone hater, BK has stated he is glad Wellstone died. How any Minnesotan can unashamedly proclaim joy at the death of another is beyond me.
BK is not beyond distorting the picture, either. Wellstone was leading in a statistically tied race, according to polls taken close to the race. 47% Wellstone, 44% Coleman, 5% undecided in this poll:
// September 18, 2002
A new Minnesota Public Radio-St. Paul Pioneer Press poll indicates the U.S. Senate race remains very tight. Despite millions of dollars in campaign spending, DFL Sen. Paul Wellstone and Republican challenger Norm Coleman are locked in a statistical dead heat. //
It is Coleman who was apparently on his way to a narrow loss that year. But that didn’t stop him from tooting his own horn while standing on Paul’s headstone:
// “To be very blunt and God watch over Paul’s soul, I am a 99 percent improvement over Paul Wellstone,” Coleman said in a front-page story published in Roll Call. “Just about on every issue.” //
I’m deeply ashamed of Norm Coleman, from his spineless follow-the-leader approach to national politics to his votes against veteran’s health care and school loan programs. Norm is for Norm, not for Minnesota, and he’s willing to do whatever it takes for his own success.
Paul Wellstone was a true Minnesotan, dedicated to the success and political empowerment of Minnesotans.
If you recall there was another Minnesota guy who tried for the top job nationally in the last year of his first term. People thought he too big for his britches. That guy is Governor Tim Pawlenty, the current chair of the National Governors Association. Good Luck Norm!!
BK, I hope you can’t sleep at night. Sen. Wellstone was going to trounce Sen. Coleman, because the people of Minnesota respected him, even if they didn’t always agree with him. Sen. Coleman, on the other hand, is a spineless chicken-hawk. We will see how that works for him in 2008.
Kollege Kid -
You could not be more wrong!
The only people who “respected” Wellstone was his followers.
Just what accomplishment would you point to that made him so great?
Just because he excited far left liberals did not make him effective at all.
Kollege Kid, I am waiting for that great list of Wellstone accomplishments. And i do not mean him making millions of the taxpayers of MN for doing next to nothing, we are all aware of how well he made out on the taxpayer dime. Just as most Lexus liberals do.
“Big” delusional rants are your “forte” aren’t they. You sure fire them off often here.
How does it feel to be a loser, “big”. How does it feel to be going to bat for other right wing losers?
Just wondering. I’d pity your sorry ass, if you didn’t deserve defeat so badly.
Enjoy!
Oh and Happy Holidays!
So Nirto your rant is saying exactly what??
Again, are there any who care to offer what Saint Wellstone did that was so great?
I got the part Nitro where you call people losers again and what not, but I am trying to remember if you have ever offered any kind of response that actually made sense to the discussion.
So, in words that Nitro could understand let me ask, how does it feel to be such a loser?
Going to bat for left wingnut losers? I would pity your ass if you didn’t deserve defeat so bad.
You know, I think my daughter could give better arguments than you Nitro.
Merry Christmas to you none the less. We have fun poking at each other but do hope you enjoy your weekend with family.
“We have fun poking at each other but do hope you enjoy your weekend with family.”
You think this is fun? You are truly a sick individual. Thank you for representing your base so very well.
Scooter Fibby, you told a big fibby.
Never have I ever posted I am glad Wellstone died. The best thing for me would have been him living and watching his defeat, which was indeed coming. Post all the polls you want from those days it was very obvious the Wellstone camp was nervous about losing. Wellstone lost a lot of supporters over his last term and it was about to come home. Toss in the fact he accomplished nothing in his time, and it was safe to say average Joe MN had enough of him and his antics. You are right however I could not stand what the guy stood for. Liberalism disgusts me on every level.
Typical Frightened - Sure, I can have fun bashing back and forth, it is hardly like only one side does it, why even look the name you post under.
Hmm… seems like you may have some anger issues to deal with…. I think so.
BK-
Yes, you have posted that you were glad Wellstone died (You did so in late October). You also continually kick around the theory that the crash was a suicide because Wellstone knew he was going to loose (early September).
Personally, I just hope you’re the type who goes over the top for the attention (in which case, more fool me for responding to you). Hmmn…. of course there is the theory that you’re Brodkerb in disguise, posting to make his open identity look slightly less like Attila the Hun.
Sorry that I haven’t gotten back to your crazy ranting quite as quickly as you wanted Big Kahuna, but I’ve got a life.
We will start with the beginning of his legislative career, because raising a great family, marrying a wonderful and hard-working wife, teaching the next generation of Minnesota’s leaders and organizing community’s to fight for common causes might get to be a bit much. So, here it is:
A) Beat an incumbent Republican after being outspent 7-1 (he beat him again 6 years later by a 9 point margin);
B) He brought many marginalized groups into the electoral process, including the Hmong community, as well as college student and young people, to form a serious grassroots campaign, which has served as an example to both progressive campaigns and electoral campaigns since;
C) Voted against the War in Iraq, despite the belief it would cost him the election (that was that whole “they liked him despite disagreeing with him” statement BK);
D) Authored the “Wellstone Amendment” to the McCain-Feingold Bill for Campaign Finance Reform;
E) Was listed as one of the 50 most effective members of Congress by the congressional quarterly;
F) Passed a farm bill with his amendments that reduced corporate ag. advantages and helped out the small farmer;
G) Passed his “Homeless Veterans Assistance Act;”
H) Passed his “Workforce Investment Act,” which he introduced with Sen DeWine, an Ohio Republican;
I) Introduced and passed a measure to increase the number of teachers in high-need districts;
J) Introduced the Rural Telework Act of 2000, and passed it as part of the Farm bill. It increased the access of business to Minnesota’s rural workforce.
Now BK, I could finish out the alphabet(and probably start a few more), but I think that would make this post a little long. I appreciate brevity, so when you write out a list of Sen Coleman’s accomplishments, please, keep it short (though I think that would be easy).
Oh, and by the way Kahuna, you were wrong. So be a big boy, admit it, and stop being a hateful, ignorant demagogue and let Wellstone rest in peace. He deserves at least that much.
Another thing Big Kahuna, he was respected by far more than just “his followers.” He was a respected member of Congress and liked by people on both sides of the aisle. For prove, just look at the 5-year anniversary of his death, where people from both the Democratic party and the GOP spoke of the respect they had for him.
Kollege, leaving early today to get started on Christmas but I will be back to respo0nd how many of the things you listed were complete crap and Wellstone IS known as one of the least effective ever. The “respected” comment was always a complete cover as they could hardly say he was a total boob. Politicians like to say positive things about each other agree or not.
In my opinion, Wellstone deserves nothing and was nothing more than a liberal poster boy.
JohnS. show me the post where I said I was glad he died. The whole plane crash story I gave was to show how stupid many on your side sounded with the conspriracy stories of him being murdered. Funny with Franken on your side one would thin you understood humor?
After all he can say anything hateful and then claim it was just humor.
“big”
“Liberalism disgusts me on every level.”
Obviously. That’s just good “representing your base”. Thank you.
Great Job!
BK, you need take your memory pills.
// Poor Dave I bet while I was out celebrating in October 2002 he was probably crying in his mommy’s lap. //
So you are now declaring you are sorry he is dead? I am glad to hear about your change of heart.
BK- Are you gonna give me a list of Sen Coleman’s accomplishments? I’m sure you must have a few, considering he had a Republican Congress for a majority of his time there. Or are you simply going to respond with more of your empty rhetoric?
WHO CARES what Norm Coleman does.
We’re AT WAR!!!
9/11 changed everything.
The Republican party is the ONLY PARTY that will keep me and my blankey safe.
Even my mailman looks like a damned Muslim terrorist. God help us all!

Scooter, does that say I was celebrating his death?
I was celebrating that even with dusting off the old relec Mondale you fools could not pull out a win. Wellstone was on his way to a loss and that was the outcome I would have preferred rather than a bunch of left over hippi liberals acting like Wellstone was a shoe in.
Kollege, I could not give you a list of great accomplishments with Coleman either, I liked him when he was Mayor of St. Paul, but not all that impressed with him thus far in the senate. A far better senator over Wellstone if for no other reasion than no more silly rants he knew would accomplish nothing. I know Norm holds the smaller government less taxes stand I want, so I also know he will be far better than Franken as well. I did support Coleman because I did know he would be the one to knock Wellstone off if anyone could, but I think the Republicans could have done better.
Typical, at least now we know your approximate age with the “Blankey” comment.
Yeah you bunch of hippy Liberals! YOU GO Big Kahuna!!
TAKE THAT!!!
We are winning the war on Christmas, the War on terror, the war on Liberalism, and the war of ideas. What wins do you pathetic moonbats have?
NOTHING!!! NOTHING but a bunch of do-nothing Lexus driving Liberal pieces of crap!!!
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!
