GOP Circular Firing Squad Forms After Dahle Win

Infighting has broken out inside the MN GOP today after Kevin Dahle’s shocking upset win over former State Rep. Ray Cox. Drew Emmer, brother uncle of Deputy House Minority Leader Tom Emmer, today criticized the media and the State Republican Party for its failure to mobilize conservatives to Cox’s side:

By outward appearances it was as quiet as the night before Christmas. No great sign war waged by the left. The media had carefully set the story up as to appear to be a sure thing for Ray Cox to hold the seat for the GOP. There was no great call to action by GOP leaders to flood SD25 with foot-soldiers. We slept comfortably in the confidence that victory was ours.

Emmer also claimed that Cox was annointed by Republican leadership without the support of the conservative grassroots:

There was no credible rallying alarm for the conservative base to respond to. That was largely because many in the conservative base felt somewhat excluded by the process whereby Neuville anointed Cox without the benefit of a grassroots vetting of the GOP endorsement.

All this was too much for the big fish of Republican bloggers - Michael Brodkorb of MDE. Brodkorb lashed out at Emmer and also slammed conservative blogger Mitch Berg.

Drew, I tip my hat to you. You did nothing to help out with the SD 25 special election, yet by quickly pointing out this morning how everyone else stumbled, you win the first-ever Minnesota Democrats Exposed Man Not In The Arena Award.

And here we all thought Michael didn’t understand sarcasm. Perhaps now he will reevaluate Al Franken?

Clearly, Dahle’s win, which gives the DFL a veto proof majority in the State Senate, has left local Republicans shaken and unsettled.

Maybe Brodkorb should give an award to this guy too.

  2. 2 2 Big Kahuna

Michael is not happy at all about that one. I did not look at it as any GOP loss, Cox is about as far left as the average democRat. Given a choice between a wannabe democRat and a real democRat, they will pick the real democRat everytime. GOP’s fault for not finding a better candidate.

Avidor, I thought you only posted in safe places like The DemocRatic Underground where you cannot be challenged on your thoughts? ;) Then again, you are merely gloating and not really saying anything as usual. :)
Let’s see, if Ken has a blog but no one reads it, does it really exist?

  3. 3 3 Richard

I wonder if this loss will cost little mikey when he goes on salary for coleman. He’s starting to look like the kiss of death for republican candidates. How ineffective can Brodkrob be before he starts re-evaluating his career choices?

  4. 4 4 Avidor

That’s funny Mr.Kahuna… Speaking of DU, Carol Molnau’s arm-twisting past revealed!

  5. 5 5 Josh

The joke is blaming the media for Cox getting thumped. For what, reporting that this was a GOP-district? Seriously.

Guess ol’ T-Paw shoulda tried to schedule it before the students came back, huh?

Sounds to me like an outbreak of panic in the GOP. And they should be afraid, people are rejecting them left & right.

  6. 6 6 attilla

Oh my God, they are eating their children over on MDE…so tough to represent a party that has no morals, no message only negativity and fear.

Wait till the “fiscal conservatives” piss off the religious right when they dump Huckabee, then the circular firing squad begins to use machine guns…

Richard one gets the feeling you are a bit jelous of Michael. ;) He has far more influence on races than you would ever care to give him credit for. there is a reason why your side hates him so much, because he is effective. I am also going to bet he makes more than you as well and maybe even more for you to hate richard. i really find most of your posts juvinile at best. once again proving why your side is known as the party of hate.

Avidor, you posted two times today outside your safety shell! I am so proud of you, one day you may be ready to post someplace where ideas are openly challenged. Well, maybe I am holding out too much hope. ;) I will say this though, I find the democRatic Underground to be one of the funniest reads I have ever seen! You whacko’s make Daily Kos look conservative! My guess is the medication is starting to work for you and perhaps one day you will be able to see past your hatred for folks like Michelle Backman? Again, probably giving you more credit than I should.
So go back to the safety of the underground where any opposing views are quickly deleted and any posters who do not beat the drum of insane leftist liberal views are banned. I find you and your ilk over there quite disgusting and probably the weakest bunch leftist liberals I have ever read. Oh quick run and ban any who do not agree with our alternate universe, what an absolute bunch of sissy’s.

Josh, you won one election in 2006 and you think you are on a roll? ;)
I wonder how you did the presvious 3 elections where your side got their asses handed to them. ;)
Get ready Josh, Clinton is going to ruin a lot of local races for your side. :) democrats ran on change and now people are coming to realize the democRats didn’t change a thing, so why keep voting for them. I would say it is your side that is going to be in trouble soon. :)

  9. 9 9 attilla

My the big K(who cares) woke up on the passive-aggressive side of the bed today, I wonder why?

  10. 10 10 Big Kahuna

Had some time on my hands today Atilla. :)
Why it seems some pulled their head up from the kool aid glass long enough to chime in. ;)
There needs to be infighting on the Republican side! Way too many Rino’s for my taste. Ramstead is gone, Cox should have never been given the endorsement so I am not really upset at all. I know my party has a lot of work in front of it and needs to clean house. We did not lose the last election because people wanted democRats, people wanted change and many on the right have been upset with the new breed of Republicans who act like democRats.

Until we shake these folks out, I can count on the Hillary factor for the upcoming elections. :) She will help drive out the vote for Republicans all over the country.

We actually have an open race for the President, you are about to have Hillary appointed as your candidate. ;)
Say, where you been lately Atilla, longer welfare lines now?

  11. 11 11 Typical Frightened Right Wing Guy

    I agree 100% Big Kahuna,

The communists will have to vote for their dictator, they are forced to because they act like a bunch of lemmings, always doing what the left wing radio tells them to do without question. If yiou listen to Liberal Scum radio, you would hear them all trying to get people to vote for Hillary Clinton.
Hillary is about to go negative, and I’ll have another round and enjoy as you gullible idiots swallow her load of crap hook line and sinker. That’s the beauty of negative ads.

  12. 12 12 Big Kahuna

Typical - enjoy as you gullible idiots swallow her load.

For a minute I thought you meant Bill with that comment. ;)

  13. 13 13 Typical Frightened Right Wing Guy

I agree 110% with that Big Kahuna, my brother. You compliment my posts very well, indeed.

  14. 14 14 Richard

I am also going to bet he makes more than you as well and maybe even more for you to hate richard.

You really have to dial back on the CC before posting.

I know my party has a lot of work in front of it and needs to clean house.

Yes, that is indeed true. What the right needs to do is to move further to the right. Throw all the damn moderates out of your party and unfurl the newly designed reichstag flags. Get some wierd looking guy with a funny haircut to yell a lot to. That always goes over well in the heartland.

We actually have an open race for the President, you are about to have Hillary appointed as your candidate.

I know you’ve said it but I’ve yet to see any proof. Any links to documents showing the super duper top secret agreement between Hillary and the caucus and primary attendees in the next 49 states. And what about Iowa? Did they not get the memo?

  15. 15 15 attilla

    Big Kahuna,

You really are overcompensating for something with that name huh?

Say, since you know the future with such certainty, could you tell me where the NASDAQ and Dow will be on election day so I can adjust my portfolio accordingly? And since you KNOW the future, how will the Twins do? Jerk.

  16. 16 16 Kathy

Should Hillary go negative and Obama, along with John Edwards keep on the Positive track, they will gain more Delegates going into summer.

The GOP should be very scared if Obama gains even more momentum.

  17. 17 17 Richard

I’ve broken a long standing vow and visited the heinous web site MDE, just to view little mikey’s reaction to this complete smackdown and I have to say it’s well worth the nausea to watch these whackjobs eating their young. Let me provide a condensation of the conversation over there, evidently, the right wing isn’t conservative enough and Drew Emmer and Mitch Berg are lazy, con-committed sloths. By the way, isn’t Mitch Berg the “dirt eating pagans” guy? It’s been very entertaining because it’s not dawning on anyone over there that SD25 might be the philosophy and dogma of the Republicans getting rejected. I would encourage all the folks over at that thoroughly awful site to go with the whole, “We need to be crazier then we are already. We can’t win because we’re not insanely conservative enough.” thing. Let’s see how that works out for ya.

  18. 18 18 TheTeebers

Luckily for our family, someone came knocking on our door to inform us of a special election …. otherwise we didn’t hear about it anywhere. BTW: all three votes in this household went for the candidate who had a committee out working on their behest.

  19. 19 19 TheTeebers

This is the first and only time we visit this site… allowing name-calling is indicative that no one with class or dignity is in charge.
See above… “And since you KNOW the future, how will the Twins do? Jerk.”

  20. 20 20 Randy

Richard, you bring up an interesting point. If you look at the list of “RINOs” who are supposed to be purged, they include some of the most persistent vote-getters in the state. Look at Rep. Ramstad — now that he may be leaving Congress, his “safe seat” (one that has been in Republican hands for decades) is now, at the very least, up for grabs. Apparently, when the popular officials are booted out, total Republican victory is nigh.

If Republicans lose, of course, it’s because their candidate was not conservative enough, or someone else loused things up for them (no, I haven’t forgotten Messrs. Boschwitz and Grunseth), or it’s because everyone “hates” President Bush and they were taking their irrational anger out on a local official (remember, no one can have a policy disagreement with President Bush. If you don’t support him, it’s some personal animus).

  21. 21 21 Richard

no one can have a policy disagreement with President Bush. If you don’t support him, it’s some personal animus

Oh how well I know that. Even here, when I suggest that the criminal Bush should live out the remainder of his days in the same jail cell Reagan and Nixon should’ve died in, it’s construed and taken as if I have something personal against George. That’s the furthest thing from the truth. He seems like a fun guy and I’d love to split an eight ball and a bottle Jim Beam with him. I suspect he might be a bogart though so I’d have to watch that but I’m sure we’d have a good time. Laura, if she’s got any weed left, could be invited as well. At long as she doesn’t get too freaky and try and show us how she used to strip. A guy has to have some limits.

  22. 22 22 HCDFL

The American people have had it with The Republican party’s supply side economics and the wait for their part of the economic expansion. Wages have stayed flat, with inflation they are equal to 2001 dollars, health care costs have risen, insurance costs have risen, gas prices have risen, food costs have risen, property taxes have risen, tuition costs have risen, and surprise, surprise corporate rate profits have risen, everything is going up except your pay check.
That is why the voters in SD25 voted for a change.
Ask yourself these two question, “What has Norm Coleman(insert Federal or State Official here) done to make my life better?” and “Am I better off today than I was seven years ago?”

  23. 23 23 Big Kahuna

HCDFL - I missed the link where you show proof of the American people are sick of Republicans. ;) Once again, liberals think if they say something enough, maybe it can come true.

Not sure but it seems you are waiting for someone to come along and raise your wage for you? ;) Not sure what you are talking about but my pay has hardly stayed the same. Same for my family! It seems if you work hard and apply yourself you can pretty much make your future what you want. I understand though, you are a liberal and feel government should get you that raise because others make more than you. Not that you deserve the raise or that you are willing to work hard for it, just that you feel it would be “fair” if the government came around every so often and forced your employer to give you a raise. ;)
Maybe it is because you work for government at some level you need this to happen as once again, you seem incapable of making your own life better on your own.

    - Ask yourself these two question, “What has Norm Coleman(insert Federal or State Official here) done to make my life better?” and “Am I better off today than I was seven years ago?”

Ok, I will play, we are in a state where the DFL controls both the house and senate yet it is all Norm’s fault. ;) I agree, let’s get those do nothing DFL’ers out of office. :)

  24. 24 24 Typical Frightened Right Wing Guy

Who cares what happens to the wages of average people. The only ones who deserve their pay to rise are those who we say deserve it.
The Republican party is the only party qualified to determine who is deserving of our tax cuts and who is not. Fortunately guided by the strong, steady gut of George W. Bush, those well deserved tax refunds go overwhelmingly to annual income’s top 1% who pay most of the taxes anyway.
ALl you lazy liberaltards are the same, all you’re interested in is a tax refund handout. Well it ain’t gonna happen as long as the only political party who can keep us safe, the Republicans, are in charge. We alone have pointed America in the right direction, and only the American people who deserve our policies benefits are reaping them.

  25. 25 25 Big Kahuna

Typical you are such a moron! Average people are doing just fine when they apply themselves and work to better their lives. I have many who work for me and they have all seen very healthy raises. I let a few go who did not want to work any harder than they have had to in the past, but that was their choice. Those who remain and have been active in making the company stronger have had great success. I could care less about those who just want a raise because they “feel” they should get one.

As far as tax cuts go, once again you prove you are a complete idiot and really should let you mommy know you are posting here pretending to be an adult. Every last one of my employee’s benefitted from the tax cuts and many of them are not rich by any means. It is a leftist lie about who got the tax cuts. Did those who make more than me get a bigger dollar amount than I did cut, yes they did. Did they get a larger portion of their taxes cut over mine, no they did not. All here are aware of your attempt to be funny. Not really working for you, but the attempt is there.

Not sure if you actually think your posts bring forth some kind of though or what but you are a complete moron none the less.

  26. 26 26 Typical Frightened Right Wing Guy

I agree 100% Big Kahuna,
Every average person who works hard is doing much, much better than they were 7 years ago. Anyone who thinks otherwise is just a Leftist piece of garbage.

  27. 27 27 Kathy

“Every average person who works hard is doing much, much better than they were 7 years ago. Anyone who thinks otherwise is just a Leftist piece of garbage.” as opined by Typical Frightened Right Wing Guy

TFRWG!!! How much has your earning power gone up in relationship to Health Care, Housing, Food, Energy, Utilities, Education Costs, Property and other Taxes??? How much of your after tax income are you able to squirrel away for retirement???

Consumer spending may be up, but Consumer saving for retirement is at an all time low. So much for Tax Cuts, unless you happen to be a millionaire many times over.

  28. 28 28 Big Kahuna

    Kathy, simple logic escapes you.

Health care cost are out of hand. I believe we can thank government again for that one. Just love those HMO’s we had to have.

Taxes?? Well we can look to your group for that. Perhaps we should cut a program or two so people can save for retirement. Any chance you are not a flaming liberal and would agree we need to stop with the welfare state?

I personally make so much more than I did 7 yeras ago I am not sure how I made it back then. ;) kathy too bad it sounds like you work in a dead end job that does not offer much for advancement. Every single one of my employee’s have had their pay go up more than inflation every year. Judging by the cars I see them drive compared to just a few years ago, I would say all are doing quite well.

  29. 29 29 Kathy

Dead end job, BK?? I work for myself at home!! I do what I love and my customers are happy!! I have clientele all over the country. My client list is growing, as is the revenue.

No!! I am not what you think I am. I am a Seamstress, an Award Winning Period Costume Designer/Maker. That gives me great flexibility to schedule Commissions, take time off, stay active in the community, as well as work hours that may seem odd to many 9-5er’s.

  30. 30 30 Typical Frightened Right Wing Guy

    I agree 100% Big kahuna,

Your assessments and assumptions of the character of the moonbats who post here are always so right on the money!
Thank you for being you, Big Kahuna. You represent me and other Republicans so perfectly!

  31. 31 31 HCDFL

    BK;
You made my point, you laid off workers to increase your bottom line and at a time when productivity is at its highest level ever.
Tax cuts for the lower 33% of tax payers are on average about $45.
A tax cut that won’t even fill the gas tank.
Why then did the voters of SD25 go blue?
Over at MDE they claimed that Cox would win in a cake walk, what happened?
The people knew that the one with the R behind his name stood for more of the same and the winner with a D behind his name stood for change.
How long since the last Democrat won in SD25?
The Republican reign is over, people want a change, and they spoke loud and clear in SD25.
How has Norm Coleman made your life better?
    That’ll do Sheeple, that’ll do

  32. 32 32 Franconia one

The Big Kahuna’s myopic approach to economics (I’m doing well; my employee’s are doing well)and his quick leap to insult Kathy as being in a “dead end job” when in fact she is an entreprenuer like myself under scores the purpose of the current transformation taking plane in the American political landscape.

But to back up a bit, and before you jump to some misguided delusion that I fit into some convenient box that fits your skewed world view, I’ll tell you about me. I grew up in a small rural community with 38 in my graduating glass, I graduated from college cum laude by working my butt off in class and out and by taking on loans. I’m an Evangelical Christian and self-made entreprenuer. I bought my first business with $500 down when I was 25.

For all intents and purposes; I should be and vote Republican. I don’t. And I don’t vote strictly Democrat. What I reflect is the move in the country for a change in dialogue. A move away from devisiveness and incivility (DemocRats - pure genius if you are 8 like my son) and onto the real issues we need to deal with.

What happened in SD25 is what began happening in 2006 mid-terms and continues with blinding clarity in 2008 - a shift; a real change in old political realities.

The boomers have for years in politics perpetuated and forced their younger siblings to re-hash the culture wars of the late 60’s and 70’s. Like the movie Ground Hog day, we keep living the same stupid day over and over again. But not any more.

How else could you explain Ron Paul raising $6 million in one day or Hucakbee’s win in Iowa? How else can you explain Barak Obama, a junior Senator from Illinois dominating the Demcratic field so early. How can you explain Cox losing in SD25?

Wake up and smell the roses. Neither the Democrat nor Republican parties play books work in the same way anymore. While our country is being transformed by techonology, the world and forces we don’t entirely understand - so has our politcal landscape.

    Thank God!
