We are two weeks away from our precinct caucuses — the beginning of a contest that for Minnesota at least will culminate at the DFL State Convention in Roc(k)hester in early June.
(full disclosure: I am a super delegate to the DFL State Convention, and will be attending it)
On MPR’s website they have a great interview with a couple of South Metro activists who are all intending to be State Convention delegates. I’ll let you read it all, but I think it’s surprisingly positive for Al Franken, and as good a measure of temperature of the folks who will decide the DFL endorsement as all the prattling on blogs. Also, its worth noting the prominence of Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer among the potential delegates they talk to. I’m not going to support Jack, but it’s not unreasonable to think that he maybe the deciding factor in the endorsement, tipping the scales one way or the other.
Almost all of them quickly agree that the upcoming endorsement decision should be based on which candidate has the best chance of winning in November, not on who is best on the issues… .
Four of the seven at the table say they’re behind Franken 100 percent. None say they are backing Jim Cohen’s campaign. Larry Koenck is the only one supporting Mike Ciresi. . .
Terry Davis, the guy who works for an insurance company, says while some may view Franken as a less than serious outsider, those who have come to know him have a different impression.
“What he has done locally in the state and in building the party I think that’s the kind of thing that I look for to the future. To continue to help to build our party and he’s done a great deal of that and accomplished that,” Davis says… .
Again — check it out here!

Ole Savior is more electable than Al Franken.
Sorry it’s taken me so long to follow up on this. I edited out some of the article that I quoted originally — there was just too much there and I don’t want to step on MPR’s toes. I also added the picture after publishing the post. Sean
Hey Sean:
Will it be a paaaaaaaaarty?
How much of the last one do you remember Mike?
There’s your answer. Sean
but how the hell are you going to top this … http://wcco.com/topstories/DFL.Convention.marriage.2.359318.html
I’m already working on it :)
Say, Sean?
If you were, say, a republiCon presidential candidate, you could re-do that moment a coupla more times!!!
Unless, of course, you were the Mormon republiCon presidential candidate.
Who’da thunk that the only republiCon presidential candidate that’s only been married once, is the Mormon? Go figure.
Small mostly meaningless correction TPT. Ron Paul is still with his original life partner.
KH, I left Congressman Paul out, because he really is a Libertarian.
And “For The Record” - I really, Really, REALLY respect the way Ron Paul stands up and says what he thinks people nead to HEAR , not what he thinks people want to hear.
I got a LOT of respect for Congressman Ron Paul.
Who is Ron Paul’s life partner, David Duke?
This is stunning that democracy for you - your decision on who you want to represent you in government - is narrowed down to who has the best chance of winning in November, not who is best on the issues.
That is clearly the politics of fear. You are voting to avoid something bad from happening. I worry about an electorate that is not FOR anything, rather it is AGAINST Norm Coleman and Republicanism. Do that and we lose in the end anyway.
Here’s why being FOR who is best on the issues works best: That, with an articulate, passionate, likeable candidate we have hope, inspiration, something to get behind.
As Martin Luther King, Jr, once said: the power of LOVE is the greatest. Vote for Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer, and we will win, and we will win on the issues.
