Don't get me wrong, I like Tom Daschele. But he has exactly a 0.0 percent chance of becoming VP. Soft-spoken guys from states the Democrats can't win who have been out of office since losing re-election four years ago don't make good VP candidates.

Maybe Obama recognizes that Daschle has years of experience that he does not, which seems to be the main criticism levied on the young senator from Illinois.

Maybe Obama wants a behind-the-scenes kind of guy (if Daschle is indeed on the A list for VP) that isn't going to outdazzle him.

Daschle might not be a 'Rock Star,' but he drew a good crowd at the Humphrey Institute at the U of M a few years ago, so he does have drawing power. It may not be with the teeny-boppers, but with the more mature intellectuals.

So Daschle could round out the ticket and attract more mature middle-class white intellectuals, along with the all-important South Dakota vote.

If Daschle is a skeleton, I wonder what's in your closet Chris.

Klobuchar is bragging about having the support of such lively politicians as Mondale, Humphrey and Moe. And now Obama is bringing out "Puff" Daschle. If Democrats are about the future, why do they keep bringing out these old skeletons from years and decades ago? I would think that Obama, being the charismatic speaker that he is, would find someone a little more lively than Daschle. After listening to Daschle, people will find that their pulse has slowed down.

John Edwards will be in town that night as well. He will be here Tuesday, January 29, at 7 p.m., at the Carpenters Union Hall, at 710 Olive Street, St. Paul, Minnesota. (This is right near downtown St. Paul, at 35E and Phalen Boulevard.)

This is a chance to hear Edwards' message of real change up close and in person! He's a great speaker: I had a chance to hear him down in Mason City, and it was great. He speaks with real passion: it was clear he has fire in his belly to fight for the progressive causes we all care so much about.

Whether or not you support Edwards, you're welcome to come. The event is free and open to the public. You do not have to RSVP, but if you can, please go to www.johnedwards.com/stpaul: knowing how many people are coming always helps to organize. You can also visit www.mnedwards08.org to see the list of Minnesota supporters and find out about other ways to help, including phonebanking and becoming a precinct captain.

Hope to see you there!

I think Spotty's question is related to the original post--and I have the same question--what day of the week is Daschle coming in?

Richard - the answer is that Franken will lose to Coleman.

Franken is like the anti-Obama - everything that attracts people to Obama is lacking in Franken. The real question is whether Franken will be such a disaster that he hurts the Democratic presidential candidate.

If Franken wins the nomination to run against Coleman for Wellstone's seat, and Obama wins the nomination to run as the Democratic candidate for the presidency, by how many points will Franken beat Coleman. 5?, 10? 15?

Rumors swirl.

Obama's Minnesota spokesman told us "Its looking more likely", but there is nothing concrete yet.
