Breaking: Walz Hints at Obama Endorsement

I Don’t Hate America! notes Congressman Tim Walz’s revealing answer to a question about his Presidential preference on NPR today:

Walz had previously been uncommitted to a presidential candidate, but Obama’s overwhelming support in Minnesota tipped him in that direction.

“I’ve felt this is the citizens and the constituents of the state’s responsibility to do this,” he said. “Our take on it was let the people make up their minds and we will cast our vote accordingly with them.”

The host then asked Walz if that meant he would be supporting Barack Obama. Walz replied that while he hasn’t yet made an official announcement he did say “today it’s becoming a little bit clearer” and “we’re definitely getting there, we’ll see how things shake out.”

Not exactly a ringing endorsement, but it does reflect an interesting dynamic in the wake of Obama’s crushing victory yesterday.  Minnesota’s remaining uncommitted superdelegates have to be feeling some pressure to join the Obama camp.  I spoke with one uncommitted superdelegate this morning who said that the landslide victory would certainly be a factor in their decision, but it wouldn’t necessarily be controlling.  Other superdelegates are likely to stay neutral for a long time.  DFL Chair Brian Melendez will not make an endorsement until there is a nominee.
