What! A politician that’s self serving? Unheard of.
We are all victims in this political line my own pockets mentality. President Bush did it when taxpayers built him a baseball stadium, so he could reap huge profits, whats so bad about Carol Molnau fleecing us taxpayers? The thing is she doesn’t support the commons, anything that taxes the population that benefits everybody is a bad idea, unless it goes into corporate pockets. Why does fixing our roads, building schools, or even US Postal service bother republican “no new taxes” policy. Because the wealthy pay more, albiet a smaller percentage of their income. but more each. Fees cost them less because everyone pays equal. Many already choose to send their children to private schools, so why pay for public education too.
Americans we are being fleeced by politicians with their hands out. I wonder what Pulte Homes also received besides money. At least they have the govenors ear, should they need anything, thanks to 3.3 million dollars to our luitenant govenor

Hwy 312 followed the development, not vice-versa. Molnau’s land was worth $3.3M with or without the road.

The opposite is true in rural areas, where development often follows the highway.

Molnau’s farm had not been part of a “rural” area for at least a couple decades.

Even us ‘farm hicks’ know that real estate values are different for properties on gravel roads or paved roads.

For the [former] chair of the House Transportation Committee to say legislation that authorizes major road projects close to the property didn’t seem likely to have any effect on her property value is to declare that she’s even dumber than us average ‘farm hicks’ that haven’t been elected to office.

As I recall, George, Carol Molnau’s appointment as Transportation Commissioner was unpopular from the start. The only reason she was allowed to take the office was because the Senate intended to reject the Governor’s pick for Education Commissioner, and they felt it would be unseemly to reject two appointments.

How’s that for backbone?

If the Capitol Press Whores had been doing their job and written this story several years ago when it was making the rounds, Molnau likely never would have become either Lt. Gov. or Transportation Commissioner. Who knows — maybe that bridge wouldn’t have collapsed either.
