Tony “the Tiger” Cornish Shows Softer Side

cornishSt. Rep. Tony Cornish is known around the Capitol as a gun lover. He’s the guy who sponsors the “Castle Doctrine” bill, which would allow you to use deadly force against any person that you “reasonably believe” to be committing a felony so long as you have a “legal right” to be wherever you are. This bill is also known as the “Been Watchin’ Too Much Gunsmoke Doctrine.”

This session, Cornish has teamed up with St. Rep. Tom Hackbarth to sponsor the “Hunters’, Anglers’, and Trappers’ Bill of Rights,” HF 3035 (Hackbarth is the Chief Author). Which would amend Minnesota’s Constitution to:

dedicate a portion of the sales tax on hunting and fishing supplies and equipment to game and fish purposes, protect the right to arms, and the right to wear fur and display game; establishing the heritage enhancement fund and council…

The right to wear fur? Why Tony, I always pegged you as more of a leather kind of guy.

Rep. Cornish is a good guy, the whole “leather” reference might come back and bite you. But Rep. Cornish might forget that amending to the state constitution opens a lot of doors, doors you don’t necessarily want opened with a DFL majority in both chambers. Rep. Cornish could be opening a door to the MN Personal Protection Act, the right to hunt and fish, banning lead tackle and shot, the list goes on and on. It might be a good idea to let this one die before it gets all marked up by the Minneapolis delegation, after all, they claim to be smarter than the rest of us.

What’s next Tony… will you sponsor legislation outlawing the wearing of white before Memorial Day?

Up next for Cornish? Appearing on ‘Queer Eye for the Elected Guy.’
