BACHMANN SLAMS MCCAIN

Congresswoman Michele Bachmann just put a face and a name to the GOP base’s unhappiness with the Republican nominee for President. Referring to John McCain, Bachmann told the West Sherburne Tribune:

“He is not my man,” she said. “Our candidate was chosen by the media. But there are other races out there.”

Wow.

In addition to that great quote, Bachmann unloaded a fresh batch of her craziness:

On global warming:

“The big thing we are working on now is the global warming hoax. It’s all voodoo, nonsense, hokum, a hoax,” Bachmann said.

And on Iraq:

“What our service men and women have accomplished over there has been nothing short of astounding,” she said “Though you never hear about it in the media. God has not abandoned us.

Dear Jesus, are you there? It’s me, John.

May Ron Paul run third party, and may Bachmann endorse him.

May she say loudly and oftenly that she does not like McCain.

May this benefit the DFL in CD 6.

And may the rest of your followers no longer have to deal with this high-profile lunatic. Amen.

  2. 2 2 Kerosene Hat

    Bachmann is a nut.

    Bachmann dislikes McCain.

That is as strong an endorsement for McCain as any other I have heard.

  3. 3 3 TwoPuttTommy

    I guess Tink DOES have a chance…..

  4. 4 4 NothingButTheTruth

TwoPutt - in the 6th, for a GOPer, slamming McCain is the SMART political move to make. The other comments play well to her base, too.

  5. 5 5 JB-L

Slamming McCain plays to her base, but you win in the sixth by getting the Ventura voters (I’m not sure how to label them - NASCAR Dads, Swings, Independents - none seem to really fit us). The more extreme she seems, the better for Tinklenberg, who will have an easier time categorizing himself as a moderate.

  6. 6 6 John S

Its why I made sure to pray that she supports Ron Paul’s (please? Please God?) third party candiditcy - you have to try to go off the rails in the sixth district.

  7. 7 7 TwoPuttTommy

That’s a strange district, up there.

  8. 8 8 West Metro Dem

TWT, no truer words have ever been spoken.

  9. 9 9 Kerosene Hat

Ron Paul and Bachmann supporter had little if any overlap. The anti-war, anti-neocon in the Republican race isn’t going to attract the same group that votes for the woman who kissed Bush after the State of the Union. I know for most who post here all Republicans look alike but even a little rational thought would have told you how off that idea was.

  10. 10 10 John S

    KH,
That’s reason talking. I’m trusting the fact that Bachmann is bat-guano psycho go nuts.

  11. 11 11 Kerosene Hat

    She is that.

  12. 12 12 DantheMan

We are seeing early signs of the christian conservative / Bushies losing control of the party, and the power swinging back to moderates like McCain. It might not happen in full during this election cycle, but the movement has started and it has inertia.

This is a good thing for politics and will benefit Republicans in future years.

The funny thing is that waiting in the wings for 2012, if Democrats win the White House this year, is Mitt Romney. He is not a social conservative either and will continue this movement. Huckabee was the religious right’s best last hope, and he is done.

  13. 13 13 Hemlock for Gadflies

Could someone PLEASE get this woman on video? I live in a boring old California congressional district with a boring old 7-term Republican MC who never says anything, let alone anything this spectacular! Let me at least enjoy at second- or third-hand on You Tube!

  14. 14 14 Kathy

To add that Bachmann is a nut, get a load of her Op Ed piece of nonsense in the Strib pointing to GOP Talking Points and Bush verbatim.

    http://www.startribune.com/opinion/commentary/16690956.html

It is quite obvious that she fails to tell what Bush really wants is complete immunity for the Tele-Coms in the Illegal wiretapping of Americans calls.

  15. 15 15 amuseinc

I wonder what the effect of dissing the top of the ticket has on Republican money coming in? You would think that they wouldn’t want to encourage this or they end up with a major revolt within the Republican Party.

Please pass the popcorn as this could be fun to watch… Michelle doesn’t take her meds and…

  16. 16 16 Kerosene Hat

    Kathy,

That is the same bill that Democrats are just about to make law you realize.

  17. 17 17 DantheMan

I’m a Republican. Michelle Bachman does not speak for me.

I know alot of Democrats who believe Dennis Kucinich doesn’t speak for them.

What is great is that her views are no longer embraced by the party. That means we’ll retake the moderates soon.

    Hemlock for Gadflies-

You may find something interesting on this site:
    http://dumpbachmann.blogspot.com/

You’ll get to see her grabbing Bush at the SoU in ‘07 on YouTube on the right side. I’m sure that you’ll find some interesting stuff there anyhow!

  19. 19 19 the seal

Bachmann as CD6 rep is a net gain for dems. She has absolutly no power as a first term rep in the minority, and will further the notion that all republicans think like her. Too bad she seems to have somewhat competent handelers these days, she really needs to talk with reporters more often.

  20. 20 20 EdenPrairieDFLer

    Hemlock for Gadflies-

Here is another good one, I just discovered this when I Googled her! http://michelebachmannmovies.blogspot.com/

    Dan -

Tough to retake the moderates when you’re kicking them out of your party in purity purges.

  22. 22 22 Avidor

Could someone PLEASE get this woman on video?

Here’s BAchmann talking about being “hot” for Jesus.

Search at You Tube for more.

  23. 23 23 Rick

    Important NEWS FLASH!

John McCain IS NOT, I repeat IS NOT A, MODERATE. He IS a Conservative, Just Not a Moonbat Christian Zealot Conservative. That’s why they hate him. His views on almost every issue are right out of the GOP play-book. He seems moderate to some because he didn’t follow thew party line 100%, which as recently shown here in MN, makes you a pariah to the Moonbat RWCZ wing of the GOP.

Remember, John McCain is NOT, I REPEAT IS NOT, A MODERATE!

  24. 24 24 Another Chris

There is quite a bit to Bachmann’s point about how McCain got selected. According to exit polls in New Hampshire and Florida, both of which were crucial points in the GOP contest, Romney actually edged out McCain by a point or two among self-identified Republicans. But McCain won self-described independents by huge margins, and independents were about one-sixth of the voters. Overall, McCain won both contests by five points. It truly wasn’t the GOP base that put McCain where he is today.

Did Bachmann endorse anybody in the primaries? I don’t remember reading about it if she did. None of the candidates ever quite lived up to the standards of the Reagan Necrophile Club that is today’s GOP base.

The whack jobs all the comments above- Tinkel doe not have a chance
now go get a job you bums!

  27. 27 27 The Gipper

As a Reagan conservative, Michele does speak for us!!! John McCain doesn’t!!! He’s for amnesty, against the tax cuts, for campaign finance reform, and rejects many socially conservative positions!!! Oh, and she’ll win by ten points:)

  28. 28 28 Rick

If Michelle speaks for you Please don’t speak at all. If she is the role model for your party you will further marginalize yourselves. Yeah! Go Wing nuts, RAH RAH RAH! You are assuring a Democratic majority for some time to come.

In order to win, Elwyn Tinklenberg is going to get beyond just labor support. Currently he has labor support, but environmentalists (and there are many environmentalists in the Stillwater, Marine, Woodbury area) are skeptical about him.

People need to get to those republican conventions and tape Michele Bachmann’s speeches. She’s going to be wackier at district conventions than she will be at the 6th CD convention. Avidor and I taped her at the Blaine convention (51 district) two years ago - and her speech was quite bizarre there.

  30. 30 30 The Gipper

    Rick,

Oh yeah, our party was really marginalized under Reagan:) Again, if you couldn’t beat Bachmann with Patty Wetterling…….then good luck with Tinkles:)

  31. 31 31 Mockingbird

NEWSFLASH!: Reagan is still dead, Gipper.
I don’t thin he can run for congress in Minnesota besides.

A.T. is pretty much on the conservative side of many Dems.
    But Bachmann?

Is there something in the water in that district?
    Too much mercury?

How can anyone admit to even being from there without embarrassment after Bachmann in the house? She is a national laughingstock for her weird & twisted worldview.

Why wasn’t SHE investigated for mixing her political push at church?

  32. 32 32 The Gipper

    Mockingbird,
I’m not going to insult your intelligence by thinking that you actually believe the things you say! And if you want to talk politics/religion…….where are your claws for the Democrats and their weekly pandering at African American churches??? Your a hypocrite! Get over yourself!!!! We coservatives have no problem with any candidate campaigning to any group…….it’s called the 1st amendment! Give it a try!

  33. 33 33 Mockingbird

    NEWSFLASH!: Reagan is still dead.

  34. 34 34 Mockingbird

Gipper - its too bad you don’t grasp church-state separation.
    Re-read your Constitution.

Then check all the progressive churches that have been arbitrarily investigated by the IRS, while leaving most churches espousing a right wing ideology alone.

Fortunately a few of those are waking up.

Calling me a “hypocrite” - look that up too, while you’re researching, Gip. I have to make a claim & contradict it for that to hold up. I haven’t said anything that is contrary to any other claim I’ve made.

    Reagan: still dead.

  35. 35 35 Richard

Reagan should’ve died in the same jail cell, Nixon should’ve died in.

  36. 36 36 The Gipper

    Mockingbird,

Your “evidence” is anecdotal and borderlines insanity! The notion that the Feds would selectively go after Progressive churches vs. Conservative ones, has NO BASIS! This is typical unsubstantiated grand standing from the left. Get off the continuous IV influx of Daily KOS, Olberman, etc! Oh, and just where in OUR constitution are the words, “seperation of church and state”??? :)

  37. 37 37 The Gipper

By the way……Reagan may be physically dead, but he lives on in the hearts of many! Were just waiting for our candidate to be found and take back our party (like Goldwater and Reagan)!

  38. 38 38 Virtually Speakinig

Separation [spelled correctly] of church and state does not appear in the U.S. Constitution either.

  39. 39 39 Kathy

The Seperation of Church and State does not appear in the Cosntitution. Though in principle that the Government shall not establish a national religion, thus gauranteeing freedom of and freedom from religion as a basic right. There are many who confuse this with being in the Constitution.

Where the issue comes up in with a letter that Thomas Jefferson wrote in response to a letter from a Mininster from the Danbury Baptist Church in 1801. Jefferson replied in 1802. http://www.usconstitution.net/jeffwall.html

  40. 40 40 Kerosene Hat

The founders did not feel the need to get more specific than they did because they could not have imagined a time when about one in four of the U.S work force is employed by the government at some level. That it is unconstitutional for the state to establishing a religion also means they can not establish multiple religions. The fact that tax payers are giving money to “faith based” institutions of any sort or even allowing them special tax status at all is a violation on the constitution. Churches should be given no special status and be treated just like any other business.

  41. 41 41 The Gipper

    KH,

If the founders felt that tithing was “unconstitutional”, then they would have INCLUDED that clause while drafting! The Pilgrims came to escape religious persecution……….something the founders UNDERSTOOD and accordingly made allowances for the church to flourish (as it has). While peddeling the notion of taxing churches may fly at mnpublius, the average person will reject that proposition for the ridiculous idea it is!

  42. 42 42 John S

    Gipper-
Yes, we are all aware that to the GOP a church is at the same level of holiness as an offshore tax shelter, and revenue may not be raised from it.

  43. 43 43 NothingButTheTruth

John, you should be more specific - the GOP believes THEIR churches are at the same level of holiness as THEIR offshore tax shelters, and revenues may not be raised from those belonging to THEM.
