In this weeks edition of Rolling Stone editor Jann Wenner writes a glowing endorsement of Barack Obama.
The tides of history are rising higher and faster these days. Read them right and ride them, or be crushed. And then along comes Barack Obama, with the kinds of gifts that appear in politics but once every few generations. … blah blah blah… $5 words… hope… change… yadda yadda yadda.
You’ve read it all before and it was done better by Andrew Sullivan for the Atlantic. But that’s not why everyone should vote for Barack Obama — this is:
To turn well-meaning students and nurses and social workers into self-sufficient organizers, the campaign has put nearly 7,000 supporters through an intensive, four-day seminar known as “Camp Obama.” Starting last March, the campaign solicited applications from its most dedicated supporters and asked them to travel to Chicago on their own dime. In exchange, these “campers” would learn the art of organizing from master teachers, including Mike Kruglik, who, a quarter-century ago, helped train a fresh-faced community organizer named Barack Obama.
… Responding to demand among activists, the campaign quickly took Camp Obama on the road to Super Tuesday states: New York, Georgia, Idaho, California, Missouri, Arizona.
…. The result was a network of trained organizers who became what Figueroa calls the campaign’s “secret weapon.” Early on, the volunteers essentially served as Obama’s staff in key states where he didn’t have employees. “It quadrupled the size of our operation in states that were going to be voting not only on February 5th, but February 9th, February 12th and here on March 4th,” Figueroa says. “We had an anchor in those states for a long, long, long time.”
That organization, that motivated volunteer base is why you should vote for Barack Obama. It’s what is going to allow Democrats at all levels to compete this year, it’s what is going to force Republicans into spending money and resources in states that they usually don’t have to, that organization is what is going to put Democrats in position for a dominant showing in 2010 — the big enchilada when we have to redistrict.
Vote for Barack Obama because he’s inspiring and makes you feel warm and tingly inside — but if he doesn’t inspire you vote for him because he has the ground game to help establish a new Democratic majority in this country.

And after the election is won these organizers turn into community organizers helping change their local communities? Let’s hope.
If anybody needed any other reasons. http://www.getbig.com/boards/index.php?topic=205033.msg2825072
That is the reason I support Obama. The change and hope are nice, but the operation is top notch. There will be no Kerry/Gore screwups with this team runnning the show.
