If its Monday, its Publius TV.
In this week’s edition, Matt and I talk about the CD 3 race. Why did Ashwin Madia score big wins this weekend? What are his chances in a general election? We answer these questions (and Matt does his best John Mercurio impression) in this weeks shorter version of Publius TV.

Get a sack, Zack!
Video is still a little long…the Fixcam is usually just about 2:30 seconds long, maybe you guys alternate who does it each week? Because overall you are giving the same opinion twice…
Do you guys see a contradiction in your diehard support of El Tinklenberg and Barack Obama? Part of the change that Obama is promising is detaching lobbyists from the lawmaking process and it’s my understanding that El Tinklenberg is…a lobbyist.
I don’t have a candidate in the 6th, but I was just curious about that after following your blog.
Barack Obama will be a disaster in the general. His favorables have already fallen below fifty percent. If the demns had any brains, they would swallow Hillary and “hope” for the best. At least she won’t implode on them. I don’t agree with Paulsen on every issue, but he’ll probably pull it out by hanging on the McCain’s coattails. The same people I know who are moderate to liberal — and who love Ramstad — love McCain. With the economy as it is, they are going to probably vote their pocketbook. Remember, the 3rd is a rich district. It may be socially moderate, but it won’t vote for someone who won’t extend the Bush tax cuts.
Your analysis of the Bonoff-Madia race leaves out one important element: raising money. For all of Madia’s skills that you believe translate well to the general election, what won’t translate well is his inability to raise money. Throughout the campaign, Terri has consistently out-raised him 2:1, even while Madia has been enjoying his convention success. But if you can’t raise enough money, you can’t win the 3rd.
To her credit (and possibly her electoral demise), Terri has refused to go negative and refused to abandon her duties at the Capitol. She never mentions that Madia is a former Republican, and she never mentions that he worked for the McCain campaign, and she never mentions that until recently he lived with his parents at age 30. These things matter, not that they disqualify him, but they do matter. And most people are not aware of them. Ashwin Madia may yet turn out to be a fine candidate, for he certainly is intelligent and works hard, but he is essentially unvetted and has not demonstrated the leadership skills needed for the job. It would be a shame for the DFL to endorse the lesser candidate.
