Just a Reminder

With traffic up a tick from the New York Times link, I think now’s an appropriate time to revisit this Sack cartoon:
Sackgop
For those who might not be familiar with the backstory, the Minnesota GOP has had quite a few problems sorting out their finances themselves. I wonder if Ron Carey has a tough time getting upset about Franken making a finance mistake given how familiar he is with those sort of problems.

Looks like Sack is in the tank for Team Franken. Voters don’t vote for the chairman of a political party to represent them in the U.S. Senate. I think Carey has not done well as chairman of the state GOP, but that has nothing to do with Franken’s incompetence.

Actually Sack’s cartoon raises a reasonable point of the pot calling the kettle black, and one I’m surprised Franken’s campaign didn’t seize on early with these stories to fight them off. Instead, he let the stories go on for weeks. He could have said, “I’m looking into it”, then added “but it’s a bit rich to get lectured by Ron Carey, who used employee’s 401K funds to help with the RPM cash flow problems”. Instead they acted like deer in the headlights.

Chris, Ron Carey is criticising Franken. Here is the question I tried to ask at a GOP Press Conference, but republiCon Ron refused to answer:

“Mr. Chairman, under your stewardship, the MN GOP has paid fines to the FEC going back to 2001, and there are questions from within your own party whether GOP employee retirement money was misappropriated, not to mention allegations of tax evasion. How do you respond to charges that you are trying to hold Franken’s campaign to standards you can’t keep?”

So, not only is republiCon Ron a hypocrite on the
“standards” question, he’s a hypocrite on the “questions” question, because not only wouldn’t he answer my question, but after the reporters started looking back at Ron, again, republiCon Ron refused to answer the reporters questions!!!

Now, I agree that republiCon Ron (by name) isn’t on the ballot; but: he is the highest elected official in the Republican Party of Minnesota - elected by his fellow GOPers.

While Franken’s problems only affect himself, republiCon Ron’s problems affect every candidate with an “R” behind their names, as republiCon Ron is the epitome of why GOP now stands for GreedOverPrinciples.

The Sack cartoon, above, ran right after the Star Tribune story, that contained this:

A left-leaning blogger tried to ask Carey about the party’s FEC reports at a news conference the GOP called last week to highlight Franken’s problems. Carey dismissed him, saying the press briefing “is something for our credentialed media here.”

Carey did not respond this week to Star Tribune requests for an interview about the FEC filings.

    Well, isn’t that just precious?

How incredibly silly that right wingers come here to spin.

As though its going to sway anyone if they come here to make up stories, exaggerate & try to tank a progressive candidate!

    That’s awfully hateful for Minnesota.

I would recommend calamine lotion for that incessant itch & maybe we can get on to actual topics, instead of RW trolling.

The GOP has a lot of skeletons in their closet.
They really shouldn’t be talking at all, because it provides opportunity to showcase their problems: Why do they always point elsewhere, for problems they themselves have in spades?

Ripping even their own, if they go “off reservation.”
It doesn’t get anything done to be so vindictive.

    Two Putz,

Ron Carey is the highest elected Republican in the state? What a bunch of crap. There are probably less than 5,000 people in the entire state who even know who Ron Carey is. The fact that the state GOP has had problems with its campaign finance reports is a nice dodge for the pattern of instability and incompetence demonstrated by Al Franken. If you believe voters actually care abour Ron Carey or even think about him or the state GOP, you’re delusional.

    Mockingbird,

Leaving the name calling and insults aside for the moment, your post is ridiculous. You’re the one who is actually spinning Franken’s pattern of incompetence. Sack put up a nice smoke screen to shield his buddy Al, but the fact remains that Franken us unqualified and unfit to represent Minnesota in the Senate.

  6. 6 6 Swiftee

Notice that Sack’s shot doesn’t address the real problem with Al Franken: He’s a pathological liar.

He lied about his involvement with the Gloria Wise scandal.

He lied about not receiving any of the dozen registered letters from the state of NY, demanding he pay workers comp for his employees.

He lied about his NY residency.

He lied about his business dealings in CA.

The incompetence displayed by Al in his private business dealings should give the thoughtful voter a moment to doubt his qualifications for US Senate. His penchant for mendacity should remove all doubt as to the lack of those qualifications.

What makes Al Franken so unqualified to take Norm’s job? Where are your examples of incompetence? It’s plain to see that the MN GOP has much bigger money woes than Franken’s minor tax problems. It has been a manufactured issue from the start, and I doubt it will significantly hurt his campaign. I am neither Republican nor Democrat, but I think almost anyone off the street could have done a better, more responsible job than Norm Coleman. But I don’t think any self respecting conservative would want to put Norm’s voting record out in the forefront, so maybe I can see why you would form these arguments. Norm is going to have a tough go of it this year, what with his last 7 years and all, and the damage created by his party. We are living it now. Minnesotans aren’t as stupid as he would like to believe, we want change. This is a blue state, and it certainly won’t be purple in this election. Mockingbird, I agree with your point. Who are these right wingers trying to fool posting on MNPublius? You would think they would go somewhere less informed for their petty and pointless arguments. It’s laughable. PS - I know who Ron Carey is.

  8. 8 8 Paulsing

Nice going. You made the point that the GOP has a house to fix but admitted that Franken has the same problem.

So is everyone who has raved about Franken going to feel dumb November 5th when he gets 40% of the vote, or are you are going to blame something/someone else?

To the GOP, issues are like garlic to a vampire. norm can’t win by campaigning on his record or even what he would’ve liked to have accomplished if his masters would’ve let him. His only tactic will be division and distraction.

  10. 10 10 loveit

So we all agree, Ron Carey and Al Franken are BOTH total morons.

Thank goodness Carey isn’t on the ballot like Franken is. I can’t believe you guys are going to let him be your nominee. Thank goodness, because if it was anyone else, Coleman would probably lose.

  11. 11 11 Chris

    Zach,

The only one you’re fooling is yourself. You say you’re not a Republican or a Democrat and then go on to post Democratic talking points. How is Al Franken incompetent? For starters, he failed to provide work comp insurance for his employees in New York for several years. He got fined for the failure to have work comp and he apparently ignored the notices from New York and went into arrears. He failed to maintain his UCC filings in California for his businesses there and ended up paying penalties. He failed to file and pay taxes in 17 states where he made income. It’s not a manufactured story. If the oil companies or “big pharma” did any of this stuff, the Democrats would haul them in front of Congress for hearings. You’re not fooling anyone Zach, but nice try nonetheless. Even liberal bloggers like Chris Truscott see the writing on the wall for team Franken.

  12. 12 12 Typical Frightened Right Wing Guy

    Chris, I agree 100%,

Thank you for repeating the talking points that need to be repeated.

You take down moonbats so well, and yet for some reason these moonbats just don’t get it!

Obviously, everyone knows that nobody is simply going to pull the Dempocrat lever in the general election.

Thank you for promoting the hatred and character assasination that we Republicans need to keep moving our agenda forward.

    Great Job, MOB-ster.

  13. 13 13 Mockingbird

    LOL.
    Republicans are funny.

    Or should I say NeoCONs.
There are few old style “Republicans” left.

  14. 14 14 Dan

That would be awesome if Franken was running against Ron Carey.

“But I don’t think any self respecting conservative would want to put Norm’s voting record out in the forefront, so maybe I can see why you would form these arguments. Norm is going to have a tough go of it this year, what with his last 7 years and all, and the damage created by his party.”

Norm doesn’t have to put his voting record on the forefront. He can just make the race about Al Franken’s problems. And that will probably work for him.

Al Franken: Giving Norm Coleman a free pass.

  15. 15 15 Mockingbird

    No.
All that diss the progressive candidate for minor things
    are giving Normy a pass.

That’s embracing Normy as “the devil we know”
because of innuendo about the progressive choice.

    More Normy = more Bush.
Normy is not anything more than a collaborator with the Bush administration.

    @ Dan

Pretty pathetic that Coleman has to avoid his own record and focus entirely on attacking Al.

Good thing that Minnesotans are so responsive to negative campaigning, eh?

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a senator with a record of positive acheivements to run on? Ah..I forgot we do have one in Senator Klobuchar.

  17. 17 17 Swiftee

Jismo, when the Democrat party fields a candidate that isn’t a complete douche, maybe we can debate issues.

It’s pretty pathetic when Angry Al is the best you can come up with.

  18. 18 18 Typical Frightened Right Wing Guy

    I agree 100%, Swiftee,

Thank you for again effectively taking down moonbats.

I don’t know what the Republican party would do without your intelligent, sharp wit and well explained common sense.

Everybody knows Angry Al is only the best these moonbats could come up with. These liberals who hate America and want to surrender to terrorists just don’t get it.

    Great Job!!

  19. 19 19 lojasmo

    @ swiftee

Interesting that you’re comfortable calling franken a douche in the same post where you particpate in name-calling.

Too bad hypocrite doesn’t rhyme with republican. It’s such a slam dunk.

  20. 20 20 Phttt

Yeah, I’ve always noticed that Shiftee is anxious to discuss “the issues.”
