John McCain is set to release a batch of medical records tomorrow. The timing, the Friday before Memorial Day weekend, indicates that McCain wants to bury the medical records. Another sign that McCain doesn’t want much attention paid to the records is the leaking of his meeting with potential running mates at his ranch in Arizona. As First Read writes:
By leaking out word that the candidate will be hosting three potential veep running mates (Charlie Crist, Bobby Jindal, and Mitt Romney) at his ranch this weekend, the campaign has given the press corps a nice distraction story to focus on at a time when he’ll have just released details of his medical records on Friday, which just happens to mark the beginning of the Memorial Day weekend.
So whats in these records that McCain wants bury? McCain’s advanced age is proving to be a liability in the polls. If he was perfectly healthy, wouldn’t he be trumpeting these records as evidence that he’s up to the job? On the other hand, I wouldn’t expect anything too bad. If McCain was suffering from some serious medical problems, he’d probably roll it out in a way that would allow him to explain it more fully. My guess is thar the records show that McCain has mild health problems; probably those typical for a man entering his 70’s. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Did you noice that Pawlenty wan’t mentioned in the story as a potential running mate in the article?
Did ya ever notice that many of the pictures of him in the news or in newspapers cut off the top of his spotty balding head?
Delj - A coworker and I were talking about that last week. That guy is OLD!
Pawlenty was invited to this social barbeque, but a wedding or some sort of other prior obligation kept him, Huckabee, and seveal others from attending.
McCain released medical records in 2000, and like then, there will be thousands of pages of reading, and douvtfully any surprises.
I’d rather have an old guy who is right on policy than a youthful guy who is wrong on policy.
The best thing McCain could do is announce he is running for one term only. “I am going to govern for four years, shake things up, do what I think this country needs to do, and then get out of the way.”
People would respond to that, and I think it would help offset the age concerns.
@ DTM
Ah, but what we have here is an old guy who is a nearly unwavering supporter of Bush’s failed policies Vs. a young guy who opposes a vast majority of Bush’s policies (policies, I might add, which are opposed by a sizable majority of the electorate)
You need to retool your arguments there, bud.
lojasmo,
I disagree with your characterization of McCain’s policies. If you’re talking about the war, it turns out McCain was right about the surge as judged by even ABC which had a story today about a remarkable decrease in deaths of U.S. troops and about how the Iraqi government is taking over military operations in a number of areas of the country. At least McCain has policies. All Obama has offered so far are naive and idealistic platitudes. Like when he said the other day that Americans are at fault for the energy crisis because we keep our thermostats at 72 degrees whether it’s hot or cold and we drive cars and eat too much food. What is Obama gonna do, repeat the Carter fiasco of telling people to buy more sweaters?
When hearing Obama speak, I am often with a one-word question that never, ever seems to get answered: “How?”
@ Chris-
McCain has an 88% vote unity record in the 110th. Higher in the 109th.
His policies on any number of issues are out of touch with the majority of Americans.
