DONATE!

Minnesota Democrats have a historic opportunity this fall.  Between Al Franken, Steve Sarvi, Ashwin Madia and El Tinklenberg, the DFL has strong candidates running for every single Republican-held seat in our congressional delegation.  With Barack Obama sporting double digit leads at the top of the ticket and a Democratic wave building, we could win each of these seats.

Achieving a 100% DFL delegation will not be easy.  To even have a chance, we’ve got to give it everything we’ve got.

In that spirit, liberal leaning blogs in Minnesota are joining together to sponsor and end of quarter fundraising drive for our DFL challengers.  Together with MNCR, Centrisity, Blue Man, Chris Truscott and Power Liberal, MN Publius is asking you to donate to one of our great DFL candidates before next Monday.  We’ve established an Act Blue page so we can track our efforts, called Red to Blue MN.  Our goal is modest, to raise $250 for each candidate.

So please take this opportunity to make a donation (no matter how small).  Its your chance to be part of something historic.

“strong candidates …” - you would say that regardless of who they were.

  2. 2 2 Matt Martin

It’s, of course, easy of me to say this, Sean2, but I disagree with you. I honestly think that we have a strong candidate in every race this cycle. We were huge advocates of El in 2006 because he’s an amazing fit for the district and a strong public advocate; Steve Sarvi’s record of public service both in the military and in local government makes him a great counter-point to John Kline; Ash Madia’s proven ability to inspire voters coupled with his story of a moderate Republican turned moderate Democrat after his service in the Marines makes him a compelling option; and in every community Al Franken has traveled to across this state (and there have been many so far), the next morning there’s been a glowing piece in the editorial page, evidence of his proven ability to connect with Minnesotans anywhere they’re willing to give him a chance, no matter how skeptical they are when they approach him — If that’s not a line-up of strong candidates, I’m not sure what is.

While I’m sure that all would accept every penny you can scrounge, and
certainly Tinkleberg has nothing to lose, do you think that Sarvi and Madia
really want to be pictured “standing” next to Al “my 12 year old studied beastiality” Franken?

I mean, I fully expect them to lose, but they do have legitimate campaigns going thus far; why toss
    in with the tossers?

  4. 4 4 Swiftee

Actually, a closer inspection reveals that Madia looks kind of disgusted!

Wow, the neocons certainly do love your blog! If only they had something constructive to add…

Just a thought. It might not be a good idea for local Democrat House candidates to be associated with Al Franken.

His passion may play well in Minneapolis, but horrible in Circle Pines.

Scrotee, er, ‘scuse me, “NotSoSwiftly” posted a link to full-frontal male nudity on M.D.E., where anyone - any kid - could link to a guy’s junk.

Yet Scrotee questions what Franken wrote, in an adult magazine.

Scrotee is a sick man. He’s also the base. As a matter of fact, it don’t get any baser, than Scrotee.

    Say, 2punk?

Is there ever not a time when you are thinking about men’s genitalia, Johnson?

    *laughing @ U*

You’re a sick man, Scrotee. Seek help.

  10. 10 10 The Gipper

Your most realistic shots are Madia and Franken………..the other two………well………money down a rat hole:)

  11. 11 11 Penigma

    Twoputt, You nailed it.

Gip - I’d not write off Sarvi at all, he’s got more ‘street cred’ than Texan Jim Kline, and, in talking to him, he’s a lot more sensible than someone who would refer to those who oppose the Iraqi occupation as the equivelant of traitors, providing aid and comfort to the enemy. That kind of jingo-istic claptrap doesnt play well, except with simpletons, I suppose.

  12. 12 12 Typical Frightened Right Wing Guy

    Swiftee, I agree 100%,

There are some who have written that you are “penis obsessed”, and they are just moonbats who hate America and want to surrender to terrorists.

Just because you created cartictures of people you disagree with as penises and balls on your website does not mean you are penis and balls obsessed.

The fact that your frequently comment using genetalia jokes doesn’t make you penis obsessed either.

These moonbats are just sick of being taken down so well. It is co-incidental that so much of your commentary and blog revolve around penises and balls……I hope.

    Great Job!

    Thanks TFRWG.

Since I haven’t had the urge to update it for months, it’s nice to know someone still spends so much time, and puts so much effort into researching my blog.

    Keep ‘em tappin’, buddy.

  14. 14 14 Typical Frightened Right Wing Guy

    Swiftee, I agree 100%,

I just have a pretty good memory, especially concerning the local Republican base and what we’ve been up to the last 7.5 years.

    Great Job!

Two months ago, someone said that the Dems could take back all three congressional seats, and I thought … no way. But there has been so much anecdotal evidence of a democratic tsunami building that I now believe there is a very significant chance of a total sweep here in Minnesota.

Republicans are leaving the party in droves (just ask Joe Repya!), Republicans have no issues and are morally bankrupt and corrupt.

Time to take back the country for all of the people!!!!

Typical Frightened Right Wing Guy will %100 agree with anything said by Swiftee, Chestnut, or MBB, I %100 agree.

I %100 Agree with Yoni, Typical Frightened Right Wing Guy is a %100 tool. I %100 agree.

You all do have a decent lineup of candidates. Sarvi is solid all around with his long history of service, and Tinklenberg has an opportunity to make this race very close. I believe he would have won the race in 2006. I think those two will give the GOP a run for their money, and I actually think Tinklenberg will win. Solid candidates, and I commend the DFL for not offering up far left candidates for these seats.

On a personal level, I like Madia’s story, but in political terms I think just enough voters will be bothered that he is so new on the scene. 5 more years of living and working in the area, and he would be a force. Plus, we really haven’t seen Paulsen campaign yet. He is busy raising funds, and funds he has.

All three races, 2, 3, and 6, are decided by less than 5 points.

I really don’t see Franken winning. In fact, I think he gets beat by more than 5 points.

  18. 18 18 Richard

DTM, you should defer to Swissy because he truely speaks for all GOP’ers.

Is there ever not a time when you are thinking about men’s genitalia, Johnson?

That sort of laser wit must make you proud.

  19. 19 19 Andrew

I’m surprised you are that confident in Tinklenberg. I guess the only reason I wasnt that confident was that it’s such a conservative district that has shown almost zero progress in shifting blue like half of the district. But, him getting the IP endorsement is a huge plus. If we see a huge kick-up in fundraising for this next quarter, maybe he’ll make the DCCC’s Red to Blue program. I dont know if Obama will do that well in Wright, Sherburne, Stearns, and Benton county, he should do well in parts of Anoka (more of the suburbarn part) and in Washington county. But he is a soli candidate and Bachmann has not done well this term…..

I think Madia will win. I think it would’ve been neck and neck in like 2006 but in 2008, Obama is going to win pretty handidly in Minnesota (we are no swing state this election, yet though) and the third district was a very large key to his primary win, being able to attract upper middle class, educated, whites. That is this entire CD pretty much. Obama will win it handidly and carry Madia over to a sure victory. And Paulsen just seems exactly what the Bush administration is about and would be a total rubber stamp for every policy, which will come out in the debates.

I have faith in Franken, but a little bit of doubt. It’ll just take some work. I certainly think he will connect a lot better with Minnesotans than Coleman, that accent is just really NYC.

  20. 20 20 AK

If Sarvi can’t beat Kline in 2008, I don’t know if anyone will. He’s impressive.

Madia might get hammered in pockets of the district because of his ethnicity and because he’s single. He’s smooth and has a great story to tell, we’ll find out how much the district has changed.

El’s problem is that it’s the only district in the state with large geographic areas that aren’t embarrassed by Bachmann. His hope is geography, large turnouts in the North Metro and St. Cloud to counter the hillbillies. He does have 2008 going for him.

Al is the one candidate that could get blasted. I don’t think Minnesotans like him or Coleman. Jesse is an opportunist and wins this election if he enters the race. Al could implode before the election and get 35% of the vote without Jesse in the race.

  21. 21 21 ArmChairOperative

I like how Mr. Madia’s hair appears gray or white in his picture. Make’s him look more electable than he really is.

Keep up the good work fellas!

  22. 22 22 flyguy

I think Franken could cost Madia his election.

  23. 23 23 Virtually Speaking

Well, this ‘marriage’ looks as contrived as Norm and Laurie’s kitchen scene.

But perhaps there will be opportunity to photograph the 4 on stage together sometime this campaign season.

Just have to be in the right place at the right time, and that’s not at the Excel in early September.

  24. 24 24 DantheMan

While there will be a handful of voters who might get hung up on ethnicity, I like to give the district more credit than that. After all, Jim Ramstad is from …… North Dakota!

Really, I think there are some voters who won’t be able to get past Madia’s lack of experience, both as a professional in the community and legislatively. For some, his military service will more than offset the lack of other experience. But for many, it will not.

I do agree w/ AK on the Sarvi point. Sarvi is about as good a candidate as you can put up against Kline. That, combined with the anti-GOP mood, and if there ever was a year this is it.
