New polling data was released today in Minnesota’s 2nd Congressional District where DFLer Steve Sarvi is taking on John Kline. The survey of four hundred registered, likely general election voters was conducted by Goodwin Simon Victoria Research on behalf of the Sarvi campaign from May 19-22. The poll’s margin of error is +/- 4.9%.
There is a bunch of good news in the poll. Lets start with the generic ballot:
DFL - 40%
GOP - 40%
Thats amazing for the 2nd CD. Also, President Bush’s job rating is 76% negative and 69% of district voters think the country is on the wrong track. Moreover, John Kline’s personal numbers are very weak. Kline’s job rating is 44% fair/poor to only 39% excellent/good.
The Sarvi campaign didn’t release top line results, which probably means that Kline has a significant lead. That’s not surprising given Sarvi’s limited name ID and the underlying Republican tilt of the district. The campaign did release, however, an informed ballot test (where they tell the respondant something about the candidates before asking the question). In this particular informed ballot question, Goodwin Simon Victoria Research told respondents something positive about Sarvi and said nothing about Kline. This led to a Sarvi lead of 49% to 37%.
Taken together, this proves what we have always thought about this race: Sarvi can win, but he’ll need help. Now would be an excellent time to make a donation!

Sounds like push polling.
Please send all your DFL money to Sarvi. Take from Madia and give to Sarvi.
This is wonderful considering Kline’s incumbent status. Spreading the word about Steve’s first hand experiences in the War in Iraq and his dedication to bringing our troops home will put his campaign over the top in November.
If Dems can only pull even with GOP in a toxic year like this, Sarvi doesn’t have a chance. Sarvi needs $$ and a national blowout to win that seat.
A. Push poll? Do you even know what a push poll is? A push poll is where the conductor of the poll purposely spreads negative information about their opponent. This is clearly not a push poll if they say one positive thing about Sarvi and nothing negative about Kline.
B. If you dont think 40-40 is impressive, then you dont know the second district. This is the first time in the districts history that the first self i.d. democrates equals the self i.d. republicans. Obviously the second district is ready for change and Steve Sarvi has the background and dedication to bring about this change.
Sarvi is a solid candidate.
Kline losing????…………Not likely!
Yea! I just got a mailing from Kline about his healthcare report.
Oh, he his fighting medical malpractice costs from lawyers. He is fighting Medicare cuts. Yaada- yadaa. I only get mailings from Kline around election time. I get notices for Town Hall meetings days after the event has already occured. The best part, all paid for by the taxpayers. I got the mailing, and on my way to the Eagan Target I made a quick stop at Sarvi’s office and dropped off a $50.00 check. GO STEVE
