I am impressed. On Wednesday, we joined with several other liberal blogs based in Minnesota to ask you to donate to one of our four great DFL challengers before the end of the quarter on Monday. We set a goal of raising $1,000 for these four candidates by that day. Well, we passed that goal late yesterday afternoon, just 36 hours after we started this project.
In response, we’ve done the only rational thing we could have done. We’ve raised the goal. Now we’re shooting for $2,000 by the end of the quarter, or $500 per candidate.
We’ve got an amazing opportunity this year. Every single Republican in Minnesota’s congressional delegation is up for reelection and every single one of them is vulnerable. If we work hard enough, we can send a 100% DFL delegation to Washington in January. Imagine how much good Steve Sarvi, Ashwin Madia, El Tinkelenberg and Al Franken can do in partner ship with Sen. Klobuchar and Reps. Walz, McCollum, Ellison, Peterson and Oberstar.

okay are you guys on drugs:
You want us to have gasoline prices shoot up to $8 per gallon since this gang
you described won’t do anything to lower prices.
You imagine the good they will do. When we have the horrible recession caused
by the tax increases which they want to do.
Fortunately, Michelle, John, Eric, Norm, and a hopefully a couple of other Republicans will win.
They will do the good you’re dream of.
Walter Hanson
Minneapolis, MN
Good idea but next time you guys have to be more ambitious. Anyway, I just made my contributions to Ashwin, Steve, and El. I signed up just to leave a comment encouraging others to do the same.
By what mechanism will McSame keep the price of gas from going up? By what mechanism will McSame reduce taxes and reduce debt? The only president in 2 generations to run a surplus budget was a Democratic president. I’m very optimistic about the economy in the near term and in the long term. President Obama will reduce taxes on the middle class, the engine of our economy, and balance that with tax increases on the wealthy. He will trim the bloated budget by cutting military spending and sweetheart deals for the corporations. Investment in our economy and our infrastructure will spark a boom in manufacturing jobs and that will drive the rest of the economic sectors to boom as well. It’s time to stop living in fear. In short Walter, you predict, wrongly I believe, what might happen if we clean out the garbage in the the Minnesota delegation but we know what will happen if we don’t. More war, less prosperity. As Ken Kesey once said, “You’re either on the bus or off the bus.”
Walter:
When we last had a democrat in the White House, Gasoline was 1$ per gallon. Seven years later, Gasoline is over 4 times more expensive.
lojasmo - gasoline prices are directly related (2/3) by the price of oil. the price of oil has gone up in all western nations, not just the united states, based mostly on supply and demand. we have to work on reducing demand for oil, and there is bipartisan efforts to do that supported by both candidates. however, economics will also tell you increasing supply also decreases price. only McCain has supported such efforts.
Richard - surplus vs. deficit is no indicatiion of economic health. Obama will not reduce taxes on the middle class as some suggest. under Obama, my family will see its tax burden skyrocket, and we would certainly be qualified as a middle class family. McCain will kep the Bush tax cuts on the roll if he gets his way, and that will save me well more than $1,000 per year. if Obama gets his way wth a windfall profits tax, that will only be passed on to the consumer — oil companies won’t pay that. I couldn’t afford to live in an America under Senator Obama.
I couldn’t afford to live in an America under Senator Obama.
Under President Obama that is. Seeya.
NORMY FOR SALE! Yeah, we need more of THAT “independent.”
Soes he think he will get independents by calling himself that?

Here’s the text in case you can’t figure out the link
* Reinstate PAYGO Rules: Obama believes that a critical step in restoring fiscal discipline is enforcing pay-as-you-go (PAYGO) budgeting rules which require new spending commitments or tax changes to be paid for by cuts to other programs or new revenue.
* Reverse Bush Tax Cuts for the Wealthy: Obama will protect tax cuts for poor and middle class families, but he will reverse most of the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest taxpayers.
* Cut Pork Barrel Spending: Obama introduced and passed bipartisan legislation that would require more disclosure and transparency for special-interest earmarks. Obama believes that spending that cannot withstand public scrutiny cannot be justified. Obama will slash earmarks to no greater than year 2001 levels and ensure all spending decisions are open to the public.
* Make Government Spending More Accountable and Efficient: Obama will ensure that federal contracts over $25,000 are competitively bid. Obama will also increase the efficiency of government programs through better use of technology, stronger management that demands accountability and by leveraging the government’s high-volume purchasing power to get lower prices.
* End Wasteful Government Spending: Obama will stop funding wasteful, obsolete federal government programs that make no financial sense. Obama has called for an end to subsidies for oil and gas companies that are enjoying record profits, as well as the elimination of subsidies to the private student loan industry which has repeatedly used unethical business practices. Obama will also tackle wasteful spending in the Medicare program.
Seems like a pretty well balanced plan. Versus McSame’s let’s keep racking up debt, let’s keep fighting wars, let’s just keep doing everything the same way we’ve been doing it for the last eight years and maybe, somehow, it’ll work out for everyone.
Walter Hanson, Minneapolis, I agree 100%,
They will do the good you’re dream of.
Keep taking down moonbats so very, very well.
Great Job!
@ Sean2
1) the cost of crude has doubled, but the cost of Gasoline has trippled. Big Oil is raking money in hand over fist.
Please do a little research on Cheney’s energy group.
2) Unless you make over $200k per year, your taxes will not increase under Obama. Hell…we make three figures, and we’ll be paying less (to be fair, our taxes would be a little lower under McCain, but not appreciably.)
I’ll give that couple of hundred bucks for a president who will start to withdraw troops within an appropriate, and measured time frame, who will work to enact healthcare for all, and who will enact all kinds of legislation which is important to the people of this nation.
