T-Paw squared off against Rahm Emanuel on This Week earlier this morning. I have to admit, he did pretty well. The biggest part of the VP nominee’s job is to be a good attack dog, and Pawlenty did well in that regard. I thought his defense, especially on the economic issues, was a little weak (he didn’t do enough to distinguish Bush from McCain), but overall it was a very solid performance. Like I have said many times before, Tim Pawlenty would be a good VP pick for McCain, he just wouldn’t be a game changing selection.
Rahm also did well. (I think if Rahm wasn’t from Illinois, we’d be looking at him as a strong VP prospect for Obama).

If Pawlenty is VP (Presidential) material this country is going the route of the Roman Empire. He’s never illustrated the ability to lead and given the issues regarding Iraq, credit, and energy- I’m surprised that we might be stuck with this type of leadership. Pawlenty has never asked his base to sacrifice and hasn’t shown an ability to move past a shortsighted view about issues.
Rahm Emanuel is a tool. Make no mistake about it, guys like Rahm will throw the average American under the bus the first chance they get. Wait until they get back from their recess and capitulate to Bush on FISA…
If anyone even dreamed about Emanuel for the VP slot, they had better wake-up and apologize. (Thank you Cassius Clay. “Mamma call him Clay, I’m gonna call him Clay.”)
I love Rahm, but the idea that he’d be a good VP candidate leads me to believe you know nothing about him. A man best known for being the most unabashed partisan flame-thrower in the party is hardly representative of a new kind of politics.
Okay, this might be getting way ahead of ourselves, but if Gov Pawlenty does not get the vp slot, and does not run for re-election in 2010, does he become a top tier candidate to run against Sen. Kloubachar?
I guess I get a little frustrated that we (I use “we” in very general terms) are attacking Rahm Emanuel here and not T-Paw. On this week Tim Pawlenty said:
“ John McCain is the one person who says, I’ll stand up and do what’s right for my country even before party. And I’ll challenge you [Rahm Emanuel] once again. Name me one instance, even one, where Barack Obama has stood up and said, I will take on my party on a matter of principle, on something large.”
This is the same man (our governor) who didn’t seem to have a problem with stripping Minnesota republican lawmakers of their leadership positions when they failed to fall in line to prevent a Transportation Bill veto override for something “large” they believed in.
Why are we attacking Rahm, rather than Pawlenty’s hypocrisy!
