I Am Phyllis Kahn’s Campaign Manager

I have accepted an offer to be Phyllis Kahn’s campaign manager.  This will be a volunteer position and the total recompense I can imagine from this position is a meal or two (she is a fantastic chef).  I will not post about this race; if for some reason I do, I will include a clear disclaimer on the post.

I have known Representative Kahn for the last four years, she is my local representative and I served as her ‘campaign manager’ in 2006.

The first time I ever met Representative Kahn I was absolutely blown away, while living around the world my father would keep up with the local political news in Minnesota and I kept hearing about this woman (the word “communist” came up several times in spittle flecked rants) and to finally meet her and find out that the hammer and sickle was not tattooed on her forehead was just mind blowing.  Since then I have grown to admire Representative Kahn’s legislative wear withal, her top shelf mind and I can’t not support a legislator whose life long record of thoughtful service has caused her name to become a pejorative among Republicans in Minnesota.

The title of this post sounds like one of those Readers Digest articles like “I am Joe’s Spleen (insert body part here)”. Any predictions on the over/under?
I am setting the line at 63.5% for PK, any less will be a complete repudiation of the Sean Broom Experience. ”:-)

Representative Kahn will work very hard to win her district and to make sure that 59B has some of the highest turnout in the state. I will not make any predictions about the general or primary election results — Phyllis has represented this district since well before I was born and I can only guess she will continue to represent it as long as she wants to. Sean

She needs a campaign manager? She could hike through rural China with no contact with the rest of the world and still win in a landslide, so what I am saying is, congrats on a sweet gig that will certainly help brandish your skills as a great operative.

“Communist” hardly describes Kahn. Lunatic is the word you’re looking for.

So tell us Sean; how are you going to spin Kahn’s obsessive campaign to deny high school kids a football field in order to protect her publicly owned, publicly subsidized, private island retreat?

Can you say “epitome of hypocritical, out of touch, leftist elite”?

    Go Islanders!
Does Phyllis have an opponent, or is that one of the races where Ron Carey is still searching for a sacrificial lamb, I mean candidate?

Phyllis Kahn is probably one the smartest people I have ever met, and has been a great Representative for 59A. She will be in the Legislature as long as she wants because she fits that area so well.

BTW will we know who the mystery candidate is in MN 8CD to run against Oberstar before Tuesday? Or will it be a surprise? I’m sure the media is waiting to see, if it can stop fawning over Ventura for 5 seconds. And another thing, Larry Jacobs is a total Ventura stooge/tool.
How did Bush put it, “Fool me once, shame on you, Fool me twice we won’t get fooled again…”

PS, as Sean pointed out to me in email, the post anonymous from above was from me, I forgot to enter my name in the box before I hit submit. dohhh!

Swiftee, don’t you believe in Democracy? You aren’t a Republican you are something far worse.

Are you such a fascist as to not understand that the people have spoken about Representative Kahn… re-electing her numerous times suggests that you either run against her, find a Republican who can beat her or just shut the hell up with your whimpering. Accusing an elected representative of being a lunatic is just plain stupid if you are trying to get those very same voters to see your side of the argument.

Good luck! I was an advertising sales person for the Minnesota Daily during Phyllis’ in the early 70’s and take total credit for her outstanding career of progressive politics. While she may come out of the left side of the moon from time to time she always stands for what is right and good in government. And she is a good biker. If you need any help designing her ads or literature, drop me a line.

She must be really worried that Ashwin Madia is going to work on the campaign of one of her opponents again. (Hint - he was the treasurer of Erick Hanson’s campaign in 1998) After all, he’s proven to hoodwink DFLers into thinking he’s a credible candidate. Ms. Kahn must be petrified that he’s going to harm her chances for her 28th re-election by supporting her opponent(again).

Either way, congrats on the gig!

Make sure you get some of her biscotti! They are the best. And I learned how to pronounce it correctly from her also.

Lunatic is not far off though is it.

Voting at 13, marrying cousins, the Nicollet Island stuff, getting busted for stealing campaign literature by the police. Its not about a Republican defeating her- that will never happen in that district. Its about it being time a new DFL-er can be elected to bring fresh ideas to the House, and even fresh leadership to the legislature. Far too many Democrats cling on to safe districts for far too long making the ideas pool stagnant, and produce little in the way of quality ‘passable’ legislation.

  12. 12 12 The Truth

Phyllis Kahn authored an ammendment in 2007 to allow anyone “residing in a local area for 30 days” to vote in a “local” election. Can you say “bus in the fraudulent voters”? Phyllis Kahn is not a communist, she IS a lunatic. I wonder who’s lit drops she’s going to steal this year?
