As we noted before, John McCain is currently running a fairly healthy ad buy in Minnesota. In fact, Marc Ambinder reported that McCain had invested more than $150,000 over a two week time span on ads in Twin Cities alone. The large ad buy was a key part of the McCain campaign’s plan to target Minnesota as a swing state this fall. It would appear, however, that plan has changed.
MN Publius has learned that John McCain’s ad buy in most of Minnesota has ended.
Public records at local TV stations indicate that McCain wll cease advertising completely in the Fargo, Duluth, Mankato and Minneapolis media markets, maintaining only a in the Rochester market (which bleeds into Iowa).
For the vast majority of Minnesotans, the McCain campaign is going dark.
This could be a sign that McCain is no longer targeting Minnesota, a stunning turn of events considering the RNC seleted the Twin Cities as their convention site with the explicit goal of turning Minnesota red this fall.

What a waste of $150K for a campaign that can’t afford to make mistakes. This also proves that Obama is controlling the MAPE. Indications are that Obama is having success in Montana, North Dakota, Virginia and other Bush states. He is playing offense. Mccain was attempting to play offense in Minnesota and it went nowhere.
Spending time and money in MN is a waste of time for McCain. Even though Larry Jacobs and Pat Kessler claim that MN is “in play”, the fact is that no Republican can win here and thus we are irrelevant in the presidential campaign except as an Obama lock.
