Why does Norm Coleman lie about this? It helps to sell a false justification for drilling in the United States’ costal waters even though it won’t realistically lower gas prices. It certainly won’t now, and it likely will never do so:
An analysis performed by the Energy Information Administration (EIA), the independent statistical and analytical agency within the U.S. Department of Energy, found in a report published in 2007 that opening up the outer continental shelf in the Pacific, Atlantic and eastern Gulf regions would result in production no sooner than 2017, and would not have a significant impact on domestic crude oil production before 2030.
So why is it important for Coleman to continue perpetuating this lie?
“So why is it important for Coleman to continue perpetuating this lie?”
Because, to the base and some of the undicided middle, it “sounds good.”
And as republiCons have proven, over and Over and OVER, they go for the “sounds good” over the “sound policy/good policy” every (cheney)in’ time.
God has a special beach reserved, next to the Lake Of Fire, for the lyin’ liars that form the leadership of today’s GreedOverPrinciples party.
Including Bill Cullen, the republiCon-endorsed house candidate in 2006 for SD42-A. He wrote a letter to the editor in the Eden Prairie News last week, claiming “The Chinese are drilling 60 miles off the Miami shoreline, but not us.”
Not surprisingly, this LTE was written in support of Erik “The Hustler” Paulsen, another republiCon that is the antithesis of George Washington: he can’t tell the truth.
Truthiness in action.
Another fine example: Witness all the conservatives repeatedly saying that there were no oil spills in the gulf during Katrina. Flat out false-but they keep saying it.
republiCons have no problemo looking straight into people’s eyes, and tellin’ flat-out whoppers. The reason Franken called these pricks “shameless dicks”, is because they are.
My personal “favorite” is John Kline’s paid liar, Mike Osskopp, looking out at the veterans at the Zumbrota VFW, and completely lying his ass off about John Kline’s DAV voting record:

Reasonable people simply cannot reasonably trust GOP Leadership to tell the truth; and ol’ Smokescreen is just keepin’ this tradition going.
A little sample of Mein Kampf. The big lie theory. Keep repeating a big lie, Makes it easier to except the little ones. And there are a lotta lies coming from these guys!!
Lie or not, your assertion that: “it won’t realistically lower gas prices.” is equally uneducated, economically challenged, and is as blatenly as untrue as the RINO’s statements. Since Bush announced that we should resume offshore drilling earlier this week the price has come down day after day. Supply is not yet an issue. After all, we don’t have gas lines yet. As you well know, the current high price is due to a large extent on the futures market. When investors learn that new drilling will take place within US territory watch the price fall dramatically. The other issue contributing to high gas prices are the ever increasing inflation and the decreasing value of the dollar because of the FED’s criminal activities.
Coleman also spread the one about no oil spills after Katrina. http://www.ravensblog.net/archives/june2-08.php#coleman-full
Eric, that’s a great link.
And what I got, was ol’ Smokescreen saying how horrible it is when opponents rip each other, and how he wasn’t going to do that.
Well, DUH!
He let republiCon Ron do the dirty work. And others, too.
Coleman is absoutlely shameless.
