Party at the S.O.B.!

Mark Olson is not running for reelection.  Just subtracting the total time wasted on his pointless amendments and floor speeches, the 2009 legislative session should be roughly six weeks shorter.  Even better, House staffers will no longer have to wear helmets while passing Olson’s office.  His 16 year reign of terror is over.

I was wrong. Actually, I wish Olson had run making it easier for the DFL to pick up this seat.

    3 CHEERS!

Someone schedule a happy hour at a bar near the Capitol! GOP and DFL are invited! I’ll put $100 on a bar tab anonymously. Sometime next week sounds good! Any organizing types out there?

From an old “Transit Pulse” newsletter: “….dumpmarkolson.blogspot.com. The website seeks to unseat a Minnesota legislator who per Ed Anderson (who ought to know) says is currently the strongest, most articulate PRT supporter there…”.

Watch Rep. Mark Olson take a ride in a pod.

… a few issues later the editor of Transit Pulse admitted that Rep. Mark Olson may not have been the best pick to advocate for PRT at the Capitol.

According to Dick Gronning of the Minnesota group, activities are dwindling and membership is down. The Minnesota Sierra Club and other environmental groups are pro-LRT, judging their Hiawatha Line as a great success and often dismissing PRT as a right-wing conspiracy. Jeral Poskey has left Taxi 2000 and relocated back to the Silicon Valley. Taxi 2000 is busy but quite. Ed Anderson also remains quiet these days. A pro-PRT Republican legislator who bucked the Democrat landslide last month is in trouble over charges of domestic abuse.

Mark Olson was a kook and caused the GOP more trouble than the DFL, but I find it interesting that you chose to admonish him for taking time to debate issues on the House floor. I guess you really are the Party of the People, but just your people. People who just want their taxpayer dollars without accountability or scrutiny. The question is, can we find someone to shine a light on Government the way Olson did without all the baggage? MN needs that and it won’t come from the DFL.

I wonder if Swiftee will have a defense of this after all his protestations about pornographic writing…

John McCain allegedly told a crude joke about rape involving a woman’s affection for Gorilla.

The story, which was reprised on the blog Rum, Romanism and Rebellion before being blasted out by Think Progress, goes like this: In an appearance before the National League of Cities and Towns in Washington D.C., McCain supposedly asked the crowd if they had heard “the one about the woman who is attacked on the street by a gorilla, beaten senseless, raped repeatedly and left to die?”

The punch line: “When she finally regains consciousness and tries to speak, her doctor leans over to hear her sigh contently and to feebly ask, “Where is that marvelous ape?”

  6. 6 6 Chris

    amuseinc,

The operative word in your post is “supposedly.” Considering Think Progress’ track record for accuracy, I think the chances of McCain actually saying that is about 1 in 900.

  7. 7 7 lojasmo

McCain certainly did say: “I hated the gooks. I will hate them as long as I live.”

Also, to his wife: “At least I don’t plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you c**t.”

Given these two statements, I wouldn’t put a gorilla-rape joke past him.

  8. 8 8 Anonymous

Oops. The gorilla-rape joke was reported in the Tucson Citizen. Zing…clunk.

  9. 9 9 Rusty

I heard Olson will run for Wergins seat when she resigns the 28th after taking her brothers PUC job for 90 grand a year. Does that smell or what!

  10. 10 10 Chris

    lojasmo,

You’re right about McCain’s statement about hating the gooks. Of course, they tortured him for seven years in a POW camp. So I think it’s a little understandable how he can talk about his prison guards like that. And that’s exactly who he was referencing.

As for the other two statements, it’s pretty funny that no news organization can source the alleged comments. The one about his wife, which I highly disbelieve, is from a Kitty Kelly smear “biographer.” The other, is an urban myth that goes back to 1986. And Anonymous, it was not reported in the Tuscon Citizen. A person, who is now a reporter for the Citizen, says she remembers something about a joke but wasn’t in the room to hear it and only heard the joke second hand.

It’s pretty amazing how you people are so gullible that you’ll believe anything about anyone you dislike. At least with Franken we have his own words, in his own books, in print. And let’s also not forget what’s on You Tube either.

    Chris, I agree 100%,

It’s pretty amazing how you people are so gullible that you’ll believe anything about anyone you dislike.

Thank God no Republican believes Barack Obama is a muslim, hates America and wants America to surrender to terrorists.

    Great Job!

    1) The ‘gook’ reference was plainly inappropriate. To say “I hated my captors” would have been fine. For a setting senator to use a racist term like “gooks” is beyond the pale.

    2) The reference to McCain’s wife was confirmed by three separate reporters.

    3) the gorilla “joke” was indeed reported in The Citizen, a local news paper. Typically, a reference like that would require two separate sources.

Scanned copy of the Citizen article in the link.

    Thanks for playing.

“At least with Franken we have his own words, in his own books, in print. “

And we also have republiCon bootlickers that haven’t read ‘em, that nevertheless swallow the taken out-of-context snippets hook, line, and sinker.

    You know - like you.

And here is our answer from the Republicans… “So what?” No outrage, no defending the female gender, no insinuations of a rapist mind in John McCain. Nothing but a lalalala and plugging their collective ears.

Just more proof that the Republican Party of Coleman, Cunningham, Bush and Cheney is morally bankrupt… sort of like what they are trying to do to the economics of this country. Love how things are going? Vote Republican for more war, waste and no bid contracts.

    lojasmo,

Try googling any of the quotes you’ve referenced. It’s interesting because the only one that has any hits outside of the liberal blogosphere is the gooks comment. I also find it interesting that your source fails to provide a readable version of the article. All you can read is a headline. And by the way, the gooks comment was made 22 years ago. You say McCain’s comment about his wife was confirmed by three separate reporters, but it’s funny that there aren’t any reporters reporting the comment.

  16. 16 16 Chris

    Two Putz,

What I think is funny is people like you who make a big deal out of ficticious comments but then cry foul when someone brings up something Franken said. “Out of context snippets”??? What a whiner.

  17. 17 17 lojasmo

    1) I don’t care if the quotes get any play outside of the liberal blogosphere.

    2) There is a PDF link to the article. I was somehow able to read the whole thing. I’m sure if you apply your obviously considerable intellect, you will also be able to do so.

If not, here is the link (PDF)

    3) The gooks comment was made during his senate run in 2000.

    4) McCain has a hot temper, and is a vindictive bastard. I imagine those reporters want to continue to have the ability to cover his (so called) campaign.
