The New York Times this weekend reports on the “systematic problem” with electrical work done by Halliburton subsidiary Kellogg, Brown, and Root (KBR):
Shoddy electrical work by private contractors on United States military bases in Iraq is widespread and dangerous, causing more deaths and injuries from fires and shocks than the Pentagon has acknowledged, according to internal Army documents.
The reports of shoddy electrical work have raised new questions about the Bush administration’s heavy reliance on contractors in Iraq, particularly because they come after other high-profile disputes involving KBR. They include accusations of overbilling, providing unsafe water to soldiers and failing to protect female employees who were sexually assaulted.
It is overall a depressing story.
Also, while the senior civilian overseeing the multibillion-dollar contract with KBR for the first two years of the war was fired after questioning “a gigantic amount of costs they couldn’t justify,” the 2003 to 2007 Chair of the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, Norm Coleman, did nothing. Coleman, by the way, received multiple contributions from Halliburton’s PAC.

I noticed a similar post on Al Franken’s blog - like with your post yesterday, Team Franken must be your main source. BTW, if Team Franken is so concerned with Halliburton, Franken should dump the stock he owns in the company.
Bull S**T Michael. You are lying again. Franken owns no Halliburton stock. He has owned several mutual funds on a long term basis that trade in and out of many stocks and for a period of time his fund(s) owned a small proportion of Hallibuton stock. Franken has no control over the companies owned by his funds.
BTW Michael what funds do YOU own, be specific please so we may also take your investments equally out of context.
And Norm Coleman should have used his important committee appointment to investigate this problem. But he didn’t and in fact has said he would not. Exactly how many investigations of contractor bribes, stealing and abuses in Iraq has Senator Coleman investigated?
My Lord, Al Franken legally owns stock in a company openly traded on Wall Street… and Republicans are outraged about it? You got nothing else? Come on… the headline “Man Holds Stock in Mutual Fund” just doesn’t have a lot of drama to it. “Republican tells the truth” now that would be newsworthy.
Mr. Pantysniffer please find something important to complain about… you know like no bid contracts or Republican Congressman Duke Cunningham’s taking bribes that resulted in needlessly killing American soldiers.
Norm did nothing to reign in the war profiteering of Haliburton while he was in exactly the position to be most effective. Little mikey maintains Franken’s stock ownership rises to the same level as Coleman’s negligence. Extreme right wing nonsense.
Norm Coleman is the one and only senator who was responsible for investigating companies like Halliburton for ripping off the taxpayers and citizens of our nation for billions of dollars, repeat BILLIONS OF DOLLARS, but he was totally AWOL. This is the real story.
Well, hey - ol’ Smokescreen never investigated Jack Abramoff, either.
Hey! That’s great! So Norm has taken thousands of dollars from Halliburton, and, as chairman of the Senate SubC on Investigations, has FAILED to hold one hearing on Iraq, despite the CBO having shown MILLIONS of American tax dollars gone to hell via Haliburton. Ritch.
Moonbats,
You can’t put a price on a term like “freedom” that is defined by we Republicans.
Just reminding you.
Syy, Typical Frightened RightWingNut? Republicans defined “Scrotee”, too. Or is it “Scrotee” difines Republicans?
Whatever. He’s all yours.
Good job!
