Yesterday, the Madia campaign presented the Paulsen campaign with a letter from Campaign Manager Stu Rosenberg asking Paulsen to condemn push-polling calls that 3rd District residents have been receiving (more on that later). MPR wrote a story about the incident that contained a interesting little nugget:
Michael Brodkorb, who’s filling in as a spokesman for the Paulsen campaign, said Paulsen is not behind the calls, and countered that he also has heard reports of anti-Paulsen push polling.
Brodkorb disclosed a while back that he was doing paid work for the Paulsen campaign, but this is the first time I’ve seen him quoted on behalf of the campaign. My previous understanding of Michael’s role on the Paulsen campaign was that he was working as a research consultant. Now Michael has been authorized to speak on the record on Erik Paulsen’s behalf. In my view, there is a big difference between these roles. Anyone who has ever worked in campaign politics knows that the authorization to speak on the record in not given out to just anyone. In a typical congressional race only one (and rarely two) staffers are permitted to speak on the record. Erik Paulsen has entrusted Brodkorb with being the public face of his campaign, and that merits notice.
I called Michael a little while ago and he said that his position as Paulsen spokesman was temporary. He is apparently just filling in while the campaign is in between communications staffers. And I want to be clear that there is nothing wrong with Michael having this responsibility and I also think that he has properly disclosed his paid work for Paulsen. I just think that he designation as a Paulsen spokesman, even a temporary spokesman, is worth noting for future consideration.

Per a report from Northern Virginia yesterday Paulsen’s “new” press secretary is on loan from Eric Cantor. She’s taking a “leave of absence” to work for Paulsen. Interesting. Did he previously have one? Does he even have staff? Seems like a little late in the game to be needing to find some paid staff.
Well, well, well.
Paulsen claims that congress is broken, and he’s gonna fix it.
ROFLMAO!!
Under Newt Gingrich’s “Contract On America”, republiCon leadership radically altered the nature of power in the House, firmly entrenching power in House Leadership. It’s so bad, that it’s accurate to say with regards to GOP congresscritters:
“The people elect, but GOP Leadership directs.”
And now Paulsen is taking help from Eric Cantor, Chief Deputy Whip??!?
Like Paulsen will be able to reform anything, bein’ in debt to the Chief Deputy Whip.
Erik Paulsen is quickly proving to be one of the most dishonest candidates Minnesota politics has ever seen.
Now, now since Norm Coleman is still in the race, don’t be calling anybody else “the most dishonest candidates Minnesota politics has ever seen.” It will just get him upset…
In fairness, TPT said “ONE of the most dishonest”.
My bad…
I got it figured that if you have a pantie-sniffer for a spokesperson, what does that say about your campaign? Sure won’t fit in with the other Republicans like Vittner, Craig and well the bunch of them.
Well, it’s gotta remembered - John “Semper Never” Kline set the republiCon bar mighty low. But Paulsen seems ready to jump in the gutter with him….
Looks like Michael is postin’ “the partial truth and nuthin’ but it”, over on MDE. He just tossed up a post about the Madia Campaign, with this “disclaimer”:
###
This is a reminder that I am a part-time research consultant to Erik Paulsen for Congress. Minnesota Democrats Exposed is my personal blog and it is not created, endorsed, sponsored, or authorized by any political party, candidate, or candidate’s committee. MDE
Unreal. The same day Michael’s quoted as “spokesman” on MPR, he doesn’t disclose it on his blog.
Who else isn’t surprised?
I read in multiple places today that Brodkorb is Paulsen’s “spokesman”. Gee, he didn’t disclose it on his own site?
Don’t you think the republicans are having a cow over the fact that they have been outed for the push polling they are paying for here in the 3rd?!
I bet Promark is listed on Paulsen’s campaign filings. And if Erik didn’t pay for this, bet the state GOP did on Erik’s behalf, and it is on THEIR records.
