Building and Construction Trades Endorse Franken

Today, Al Franken accepted the endorsement of the Minnesota Building & Construction Trades Council. From a recent press release, in Franken’s words:

Minnesota’s working families are under attack, thanks to the Bush-Coleman economic policies and Norm Coleman’s anti-worker record. I am proud to stand with the Building Trades in this campaign, and I will be proud to stand up for the families they represent when I get to Washington.

On behalf of major Building Trades member IBEW, Tony Maghrak, Business Manager, IBEW 292, said:

“We have endorsed Al Franken because of his unwavering support of the working people of Minnesota. Unlike Norm Coleman, who has turned his back on Minnesota’s workers and his own beliefs to get ahead, Al Franken hasn’t forgotten where he came from. IBEW Members have been the victims of the failed policies of President Bush and Senator Coleman, and they are ready for a change. The Men and Women of the IBEW know they can count on Al Franken to help to create jobs and an economy that works for all Minnesotans.”

Oh, thank goodness! I was desperately hoping Franken would gain their endorsement. I mean, the Minnesota Building & Construction Trades Council is so influential in this state that Al is sure to win the election now! (sarcasm)

hhhmmmm… Republican making fun of working men and women… that is not going to get you a much support. Looks to me like some organized labor people are starting to get together and get ready to roust out New York Norm Coleman. He certainly is no workingman’s friend unless they are actors in a bowling commercial.

Unions almost always endorse the DFL candidate. What Dems should be really upset about is the fact that the Carpenters Union endorsed Coleman. And the fact that Coleman is beating Franken among union households.

Maybe some unions don’t like the fact that Franken failed to pay workers’ compensation insurance, or that he failed to pay taxes properly, or the fact that Franken seems to believe he is above the rules.

I should have included this above, but I just noticed it.

“Al Franken hasn’t forgotten where he came from.” What a joke. He moved back to Minnesota three years ago after being in NY for thirty years. His kids went to school in NYC, he has been quoted saying that his life is in NY. You cannot possibly say that Al Franken hasn’t forgotten where he came from. I think he forgot about Minnesota a long time ago.

PB. You are exceedingly full of pablum.

Franken leads in union households 48% to 39%

Unless..you know….you have evidence to back your claim.

I was referencing a poll Quinnipiac poll from last month. I stand by my statement.

It is said thaat so many working people still think Repubicans serve them instead of corporate fascists and Big Oil. If you make less than 250k and vote REpublican based on financial interests you are truly uniformed, duped, or both.

June’s Q poll still has them tied. July’s Q poll doesn’t have tabs for union support. Your statement is a lie. Not that it’s surprising.

Glad to know you are willing to stand by a lie. I’ll tuck that away for future reference.

    Alec,

Nice use of Fascists and Big Oil in conjunctions with Republicans. Haven’t heard that in a while.

Do you actually have anything useful to add?

    I AGREE with myself 100%%%%

I would like to see this from Norm…..

Minnesota’s working families are under attack, thanks to the Obama-Franken economic policies and Amy Klocubhar’s anti-business, pro-union record. I am proud to stand with the 85% of non-union taxpaying housesholds in this campaign, and I will be proud to fight against thuggery and terrorism used by unions/mafia to control laborers. When a man can’t feel safe going to work, or fears for the safety of his family due to the tactics of union/mafia thugs “asking” him to sign a card, I will stand by his side ready to fight.

    Once can dream, can they?

    100%!! Damn Straight.

MO, you got enough money to give him and you can have Norm Coleman say anything you want. Simply sell one of your 9 or 10 homes or maybe use some of your middle class income of $3 million a years, put the cash in a plain white envelope, with the above post written on the outside, pass it to Norm and boom you got it. Worked for Ted Stevens.

Haha. MO I agree 100% (seriously) I’d love for team Coleman to say something so stupid, given that 60% of Americans support labor unions, and 53% would join a union, if given a chance. http://www.gallup.com/poll/28570/Sixty-Percent-Americans-Approve-Labor-Unions.aspx

    PB

Q july poll does not have cross tabs for Union support

Q June poll does, and shows a tie among union households (probably due to the scurrilous and false ads by Coleman)

I’m glad to hear you stand by a lie. I’ll file that fact away for future reference.

Really! Ripping into the construction trades which are now under stress?
How disconnected & self-indulgent can the right wing BE????

What the hell makes the trolls here want to rip the trades?
Who do THEY call, when they need done? Gonna thumb their noses down on working people they rely on?

What kind of self-indulgent behavior? Who loathes the people they use?

Watching them - well, its a little embarrassing. Is it like watch public masturbation? Is THAT it?
Or are these all just teenage kids with no parental supervision & way too much time on their hands?

Pathetic that to get the vote they want, the Repubs & their Neocon handlers need to LIE
about that union vote thing, isn’t it?

They DARE NOT tell the truth!!!!
The party of mostly LIES has to keep the voters under-educated.

    That in itself is amazing!
It just boggles the mind in the country where every vote is supposed to count.

Has America sunk so low that this is acceptable in 2008?????

And then, if you still want to be an ignorant a$$, go for it (get the Stallone reference??)

    ========Just a teast of some facts ======
In the 1973 U.S. v. Enmons case, the Supreme Court exempted unions from the 1946 Hobbs Anti-Extortion Act, which forbids the obstruction of interstate commerce through violence or blackmail. Thanks to the Enmons loophole, organized labor can escape federal Hobbs Act prosecution, provided its mayhem furthers “legitimate union objectives,” such as higher wages. At least 15 states similarly shield labor brutality. …….

NILRR has found that victims of union henchmen rarely find justice in local, state, or federal criminal courts. According to media accounts NILRR has analyzed, 2,193 incidents of union violence occurred nationally between 1991 and 2001. Only 62 individuals were arrested and 10 people punished for these promised or actual attacks on people and property, yielding a reported conviction rate of just 0.45 percent. (Events the media missed would boost these figures.)

  20. 20 20 MO

    lojasmo,

Don’t forget the rest of the paragraph from gallup…..
    ==========
Less than one in five Americans say labor unions in this country will become stronger in the future, and only about one in three say they would like to see labor unions have more influence. The percentage of Americans who say they want unions to have more influence is on the high end of what Gallup has measured in the past eight years, but down slightly after peaking in 2006. Only about 1 in 10 Americans say they personally belong to a labor union.
    ============
So, 80% dn’t think unions will get stronger.
only 33% would like them to get stonger,
and less than 10% belong to one.

    Yep, LOTS of support there.

Maybe it’s the union violence that turns people off. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=union+violence&btnG=Google+Search

    MO, I agree 100%,

The campaign to dismantle and destroy union labor has been a complete success.

I think we Republican bloggers owe ourselves a pat on the back for a job well done. Everybody knows that unions were bad for business.

    MO I agree 100%,

Insulting and making assumptions about people you disagree with is a consistently tried and true way for Minnesota Republican bloggers to win arguments.

Please continue to insult, mis-state the positions of, stereotype, and hate people who disagree with you. That is the only way we Minnesota Republican bloggers can win elections.

A search on google for “Republican hate” brings up over 12,400,000 hits, so you know that you are not alone in your hatred with those who disagree with you. It is a tried and proven election strategy, as that google search proves.
