Durenberger: Tim Pawlenty is no Joe Biden

This may be a moot point given Pawlenty’s recent announcement that he will be serving out the remainder of his term as Governor in Minnesota but it’s still interesting given Pawlenty’s new role of national McCain attack dog:

“I am very pleasantly surprised,” said David Durenberger, the former Republican U.S. Senator from Minnesota. Durenberger, who served in the Senate with both Biden and John McCain, the likely Republican presidential nominee, said that he admired both colleagues but added that “I think Joe’s got an edge on John” on judgment issues.

Durenberger said Biden would be a formidable match for Pawlenty should McCain make the Minnesota governor his running mate. “I admire Tim Pawlenty, but he’s not Joe Biden,” Durenberger said. [Strib]

The article also noted the universal praise of the choice among Minnesota’s elected DFLers:

Minnesota Democrats ranging from U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar to Christine Almeida, an Obama delegate from Minneapolis, were effusive in praising Biden’s selection. Klobuchar said Minnesotans “are going to love him”, and U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum said she was so excited by rumors late Friday that Biden was the choice that she got up in the middle of the night to follow news reports. Biden “has a sense of the common man,” said Almeida.

Minnesota House Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher, a former Clinton supporter, said Biden would help rally Clinton backers. Democratic Senate candidate Al Franken, campaigning at the Minnesota State Fair, said he was “thrilled”, and U.S. Rep. Tim Walz said he was impressed with Biden’s work on behalf of the middle-class.

“Obama is a dynamic figure, and Biden is ‘steady as she goes,’ ” said U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison. “It makes a great team. McCain can’t shake his finger at Biden and say, ‘Young man, you just don’t get it.’ ”

  • Matt,

“This may be a moot point given Pawlenty’s recent announcement that he will be serving out the remainder of his term as Governor in Minnesota ”

Let’s have some intellectaul honesty. Please post all of the things that Joe Biden has siad about Obama that he must be choking on right now. Let’s start with ” He is not ready to be President”. What in Obama’s stellar Senate career in the last 18 months has made Joe change his mind?

    100! Straight up AGREE!!!

  • Biden was speaking about ANOTHER PERSON during a primary battle.

Pawlenty was speaking for and of himself.

Let’s have some intellectual honesty, indeed.

    McCain has NO good choices.

  • lojasmo,

The “OTHER PERSON” Biden spoke about is Barack Obama. I can’t wait for the next Biden gaffe!

As for McCain having no good choices, I say there are a dozen people McCain could pick that are more appealing and more attractive than Biden. I’d love to see McCain stoke the Hillary Clinton flames by choosing a woman to be on his ticket. I think Kay Bailey Hutchison has not only a stellar Senate record, but a great style and personality to contrast with Biden’s. I would love to see Biden lose his temper during the debate and lash out at someone like Sen. Hutchison. That would sink the ticket right there.

  • Chris,
You Repugs just still don’t get it. Picking a woman who has been against women issues makes no sense. Its like pointing at an African American that has no record of support for civil and equal rights and wondering why he doesn’t gin up support.

Its about the record and support of issues. Republicans are so shallow and people like you have bought into the whole showmanship that you forgot we’re talking about peoples lives and our country’s livelihood. Its exactly why you can nominate McCain with a straight face and really thinking putting some conservative woman on the ticket will help with Democratic women. Try working on the Republican base.

Biden has about 35 years of good votes and leadership. He’s been stellar on women issues and civil rights issues. If your big comeback is his gaffes, then you’re going to get crushed. W has taught us that speaking with clarity is over-rated.

  • Chris-

    No shit.

Biden was talking about his opponent in a primary.

T Pawl was speaking of himself.

Furthermore, Biden’s quote was snipped out of context. What did he say?

He said that Obama “could be ready” to be president, but that he was not ready at the time.

As i am sure you are aware, chris…time passes.

  • If TPaw IS still in the running, my guess is his chances have declined dramatically with the selection of Biden. While Pawlenty may have been credible on a stage with a Bayh or a Sebelius, he just doesn’t have the chops to go head to head with Biden - and would come off as the bumbling newcomer reading from the crib notes written on his hand. I think “Five Plane” McCain looks for someone with a little more gravitas now that Biden is the Democratic pick.

  • TPaw is indeed no Joe Biden. No comparrison needed.

But Biden brings a lot to the Democratic ticket in strength of leadership, broad knowledge of the world and how it works, as well as how things work here in the US.

Of course as soon as Obama’s VP choice ws made, the McCain campaign was ready to air the attack ads taking Biden’s words out of context as well as not choosing Hillary.

It is my guess that the McCain campaign is disappointed with Obama for not choosing Hillary Clinton for all the mud they had to sling at him about her. That’s why the campaign came out with the Hillary ad saying how dumb it was to overlook Hillary. It’s the McCain campaign acting like the spoiled child now because they didn’t get the VP choice they wanted.

  • Minnesota Republican bloggers Chris-Mo, I agree 100% (mega-dittos),

There are a whole lot of things we Minnesota Republican bloggers would LOVE to see happen to these Democrats, because we hate people who disagree with us. We wish nothing but the worst upon people we disagree with. If we don’t do this, we Republicans will lose elections.

Everybody knows Obama’s pick of Biden shows how weak he is. If he was a stronger candidate, he would have picked a weak running mate. That’s the only explanation that makes any sense.

Great Job Minnesota Republican bloggers Chris-Mo!!!…and again…mega dittos

  • lojasmo,

What has Obama done in the seven or so months since Biden’s quote to be prepared for president? Nothing. I don’t really care what Pawlenty said about himself. If he’s picked, he’s picked. If he’s not, he’s not. Who is going to criticize Pawlenty if he does get picked? It’s pretty ridiculous. Just this past summer Biden said he wasn’t interested in being Vice President. Are you going to say that the voters shouldn’t elect someone to be Vice President who isn’t interested in the job?

  • Indeed, Pawlenty is no Biden. He’s actually run a government, made difficult decisions and he’s never had to withdraw from a campaign for plagiarism. Hopefully McCain will have the sense to put a governor on the ticket with him so one of the four candidates running for Pres and VP know something about running a government and managing.

  • kathy,

You’ve said some doozies before, but I think your last comment takes the cake! How is the McCain campaign acting like a spoiled child? And why do you assume they didn’t want Biden? Joe Biden has a thirty six year history in the Senate. Obama was 15 years old when Biden was first elected to the Senate. I think this is exactly the pick McCain hoped for because it’s a tantamount admission that Obama isn’t ready for the job. In fact, the AP’s Ron Fournier wrote in an article titled, Biden pick shows lack of confidence, that, “The candidate of change went with the status quo. In picking Sen. Joe Biden to be his running mate, Barack Obama sought to shore up his weakness - inexperience in office and on foreign policy - rather than underscore his strength as a new-generation candidate defying political conventions.”

  • “What has Obama done in the seven or so months since Biden’s quote to be prepared for president? ”

He has told us over and over again that he could be President. See, the GOP prefers someone who shows us that they could be President. The Dems, on the other hand, like someone who says they could be President, but says it eloquently and in an electrifying way.

The Dems are the people in school who, when they saw a new foreign exchange student, they made him the most popular kid around for a couple weeks. Loved his accent, loved his name, wanted to be seen with that new and different guy from the exotic place. Then, after a couple weeks, they realized that kid had zits like everyone else, and he wasn’t particularly interesting once you got past the accent and penchant for fine espresso.

The GOP, on the other, is the group who hangs with the steady Eddy’s. You know, the guys who might not have alot of flash, but in the end they are the ones who get most things done in the world. This group likes to associate with each other because, over the years, they’ve seen each other handle themselves with principle in difficult situations and know what kind of character they have. They also know that they can get things done. Those little details.

  • Despite the Dems and the allied main stream media’s desperation to see Romney as McCain’s Veep, Mitt is clearly out, with (1) Obama doubling down on the class warfare theme (McCain’s 7 houses) and (2) McCain doubling down with ads showing the hypocrisy of Biden attacking Obama in the primaries — Romney did way more than that contra McCain.

This leaves only Govs Sarah Palin and Tim Pawlenty. Pro-abortion Ridge and Dem-Lieberman were never real considerations, despite relentless media goading. Pawlenty’s lackluster TV performances, coupled with Palin pizzazz, the primacy of oil drilling and the ticked off women/Hillary voters, does now portend a McCain/Palin checkmate on the Dems. This is so albeit the Dems and liberal media dare not mention Palin’s name, that is, everyone but…..

And if there’s any question as to Palin being uniquely positioned and able to more than nullify Biden in debate, see the excellent discussion at palinforvp.blogspot.com

    Team McCain, well done!!!

  • Please let it be Palin… or could we call it “just like a Woman” to go with the pandering that Palin would represent… do you think she at least knows how many houses she owns?

    Investigation dogs Alaska governor
    By STEVE QUINN – Aug 14, 2008
JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — Gov. Sarah Palin, a rising young GOP star mentioned as a possible running mate for John McCain, could see her clean-hands reputation damaged by a growing furor over whether she tried to get her former brother-in-law fired as a state trooper.
A legislative panel has launched a $100,000 investigation to determine if Palin dismissed Alaska’s public safety commissioner because he would not fire the trooper, Mike Wooten. Wooten went through a messy divorce from Palin’s sister.
Palin has denied the commissioner’s dismissal had anything to do with her former brother-in-law. And she denied orchestrating the dozens of telephone calls made by her husband and members of her administration to Wooten’s bosses.
Palin said she welcomes the investigation: “Hold me accountable.”
Still, the allegations she abused her office could prove embarrassing for Palin, who got elected in 2006 on an ethics reform platform.
“It could be a bit of a knock on the clean-government issue in Alaska she backed,” said Shaun Bowler, a political scientist at the University of California at Riverside.
Referring to Republican Sen. Ted Stevens’ recent indictment on corruption charges and the bribery-and-conspiracy scandal that has ensnared five former or current state lawmakers, GOP analyst John Feehery said: “Right now, in Alaska all you have to do is say the word ‘investigation’ and people are going to be running away.”

  • “What has Obama done in the seven or so months since Biden’s quote to be prepared for president?”

Evidently Joe Biden, who is vastly more qualified than you to judge such things, has found some reason to think that Obama is now ready.

    “Team McCain, well done!!!”

Allowing Obama to whittle the choices down to a zero term governor from Alaska who is currently embroiled in scandal, who holds only a bachelors degree in journalism, and who’s only previous political is a one year stint as mayor of a small Alaska town?

Well done, indeed. Won’t be palin…and if it is…she gets eaten by Biden in every debate. I suspect McCain is foolish to double down and pick Romney.

  • lojasmo -

Be careful about taking shots at zero-term politicians involved in a scandal.

(see: Obama 2 years into his 1st-ever national term when announcing, and the Rezko stuff which just doesn’t seem to go away).

  • Pfft. Obama has seven years in the IL state house. Also, more time in the US senate than Palin has in the governor’s mansion.

Rezko is gone. He has been convicted, and Obama was never even called as a material witness. Gone, DtM.

  • “Pfft. Obama has seven years in the IL state house.”

    - So how many Americans, honestly, would elect someone to the Presidency with state legislative experience only? Zero. It is a non-factor, because literally thousands of Americans can claim state legislative experience, and they aren’t all running for President. It is the US Senate experience that counts for him, and he has 2 years of it, followed by 2 years of Senate-while-campaigning-for-President experience.

That is a thin, thin, thin resume. Put it this way — given that criteria, Amy Klobuchar should be ready to announce her Presidential candidacy today. She has several years of local public service experience followed by 2 years in the Senate. But to Amy’s credit, she is going to at least finish her first job before she feels the need to be promoted.

Mitt Romney is the logical choice for McCain…. he has been the executive of a state, is proven to be bi-partisan like McCain, and the data shows that he gives McCain the best chance in the national polls against Obama-Biden.

  • Palin is going to follow Ted Stevens to jail. By all means, please pick her.

  • “The GOP, on the other, is the group who hangs with the steady Eddy’s. You know, the guys who might not have alot of flash, but in the end they are the ones who get most things done in the world. This group likes to associate with each other because, over the years, they’ve seen each other handle themselves with principle in difficult situations and know what kind of character they have. They also know that they can get things done.”

LOL. How did GWB get picked then? His resume basically consists of being drunk and running a bunch of businesses into the ground, plus a few years running a state where the governor has limited power.

  • Thanks for elevating the conversation, Dan.

  • DtM: Dan is correct about President Bush’s experience. The only business he ever ran that didn’t tank was the Texas Rangers (who survive with a big fat gummint subsidy for a new stadium). The Texas Constitution, like a lot of southern state constitutions, strictly limits the power of the Governor.

”- So how many Americans, honestly, would elect someone to the Presidency with state legislative experience only? Zero.” Eight years in the Illinois Legislature, plus two years in the US House of Representatives equals what US President? Hint: He was a Republican, ahd is held in generally high regard.

  • That bastard Lincoln should have never been elected… what did he ever do but cause massive problems? Americans died because of his misguided ideas about how America should be run. He was no conservative or even a standard bearer for strict Constitutionality. He went so far as to eliminate Habeaus corpus for a while. He was certainly a RINO if there ever was one, besides he has tall and ugly. I tell you if anybody in history has proven that Obama should not be elected it is that other son of Illinois.

Does anybody honestly think that A. Lincoln would be a modern day Republican? Hell, they would have thrown him out of the party over his sleeping arrangements with that lawyer buddy of his…

  • DantheMan, your point was that Republicans nominate experienced candidates who get things done, in contrast to supposed lightweights like Obama. And the nomination of Bush blows that argument up. Bush was a drunk and a complete failure as a businessman. And Texas is a state where the governor does not have a lot of power.

Don’t blame me for not elevating the conversation. Blame the Republicans for nominating a completely unqualified and inexperienced man for president.

  • I’m sure Dan didn’t mean to hurt your fragile feelings with the truth, DtM. Obama is immeasurably more qualified than your hero, Bush to run the country. He is very unlikely, however, to run it into the ground, as Bush has.

  • You know, the guys who might not have alot of flash, but in the end they are the ones who get most things done in the world. This group likes to associate with each other because, over the years, they’ve seen each other handle themselves with principle in difficult situations and know what kind of character they have.

Thanks for elevating the conversation, DtM. You don’t generally find that level of satire and irony on serious political blogs. What a relief to read your post here first thing in the morning, before I have serious work to do. Kudos, DtM and try and keep the hilarity going but I don’t see how you can top that gem.

  • “Obama is immeasurably more qualified than your hero, Bush to run the country. He is very unlikely, however, to run it into the ground, as Bush has.”

Who is more qualified between Obama and Bush in 2000 is definately debatable. In fact, a case could be made for Obama.

But you know what?! I just realized that this election is between McCain and Obama, not Obama and Bush. As such, McCain is immensely more qualified to preside of the nation that Obama. Not even close.

As a supporter of McCain in 2000 and someone who voted for Bush once and not twice, I think I can honestly claim that Bush is not in my list of Republican heroes. Ronald Reagan. Dwight Eisenhower. Newt Gingrich. Colin Powell. Chuck Grassley. Not W.

  • DantheMan, I agree 100%,

Everybody knows McCain’s message and ideology are completely different than George W. Bush’s….or Minnesota Republican bloggers, for that matter.

In fact, Minnesota Republican bloggers themselves are completely ideologically different than George W. Bush, that’s just common knowledge. If our voices and ideas would have been heard, America’s economy would completely different right now.

George W. Bush simply did not listen to the Republicans who supported him.

Great Job Minnesota Republican blogger DantheMan

  • DantheMan, while I am glad you can recognize that Bush was not qualified and not a very good president, in your post you were generalizing about what the GOP does. You can argue that McCain is more qualified, but you can’t say that the Republicans pick more qualified candidates as a general rule.

  • “But you know what?! I just realized that this election is between McCain and Obama, not Obama and Bush.”

Wrong again, DtM. Boy Blunder is firmly attached to each and every candidate with an “R” after their name, whether they like it or not.

The simple fact is that the GOP has completely (cheney)ed up everything they’ve touched; to vote for anyone with an “R” behind their name is simply rewarding the GOP for the last eight years of ineptitude.

Are you really going to reward the GOP for their record of failure?

    Yeah, I’m sure you will.

But I don’t think the majority of moderates will, and that’s where elections are won - or lost.

Any vote for anyone with an “R” behind their name is a vote for the continued policies of George W. Bush and a strong assertion that results don’t count - but voting for GreedOverPrinciples does.

  • As far as GOP notables, Eisenhower was the only one that warned of the coming influence of the military industrial complex. Reagan was the only one that was indictable and should’ve died in the same jail cell, Nixon should’ve died in. Colin Powell traded his future to a president for very little. Newtron tried the begger the country and thanks to a strong president, he wasn’t successful.

The GOP has been since Ike a party of greed and avarice, a party of those who would put profit for the very few over the good of the nation, a party of war and mass murder on a scale few in history could rival. McCain is of these people and has the jack boots and brown shirt to prove it.

  • “to vote for anyone with an “R” behind their name is simply rewarding the GOP for the last eight years of ineptitude.”

To say something like that, with no consideration of the candidate, is as partisan as you can get. You are sadly prolonging the partisan stalemate that has been occuring since the days of Bill Clinton and Newt Gingrich working together on the last balanced budget this country had.

Let me ask you this: If I agree with Republican principles of 1) Limited government, 2) Federalism, 3) Strong national security, 4) Individual responsibility and 5) Enabling jobs instead of direct government support, and if I believe Bush has strayed on the Limited Government and Federalism principles, do I become a Democrat? Or do I try to change the GOP to return to its principles?

Being disappointed in Bush doesn’t change my beliefs on those five principles.

  • This just in: McCain and Obama in a dead heat, with the exact same number of votes in a poll this evening. All of the poll was done following the Biden announcement.

    Dead Heat!

Obama will get the convention bounce this week with the DNC. If he isn’t up by 8 on Friday, he is in big trouble.

  • Two comments on the polls. First, after the convention, there will be a massive uptick in Obama’s numbers because of the Clinton supporters committing themselves to Obama. Second, this election will be historic in the participation of minorities and young people. Those groups overwhelmingly support Obama.

After three months of Obama savaging McCain and his cynical and mercenary support of the richest 1%’ers, it’s not going to be close.

  • DtM

To think that Obama should have gotten a bounce from his VP pick at this hour is tremendously ignorant.

Your republican ‘concern’ notwithstanding, Obama’s doing just fine. Out of the hundreds of polls done so far, McGoo has tied one, and lead one. Should he be farther ahead? Possibly, given Bush’s imoliation of the republican brand. Unfortionately, we are a nation partially comprised of racist douchebags.

HEY! Durenburger is a REPUBLICAN! There ARE a few republicans with good sense.

  • AFTER HAVING READ ALL THESE BLOGS, I JUST HAD TO REGISTER TO LEAVE MY THOUGHTS AND BELIEFS. I DONT ALIGN MYSELF WITH ANY POLITICAL PARTY-I VOTE FOR THE PERSON I THINK WILL DO THE BEST JOB FOR OUR COUNTRY, AND SOMETIMES I VOTE FOR CHANGE, WHICH IS WHAT I’M DOING THIS TIME AROUND. BUSH HAS FAILED MISERABLY, ON BOTH THE INTERNATIONAL, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, ON THE DOMESTIC STAGE. MIDDLE CLASS WORKING PEOPLE ARE SUFFERING AT LEVELS NOT SEEN SINCE BEFORE THE GREAT DEPRESSION. WE ARE LOSING OUR BENIFITS AND EVEN OUR JOBS. WAGES ARE LOWER THAN THEY HAVE BEEN IN YEARS, AND HOUSING IS ASTRONOMICALLY PRICED, EVEN WITH PRICING ADJUSTMENTS. THE MIDDLE CLASS KEEPS THIS COUNTRY RUNNING-WE COULDN’T SURVIVE WITHOUT THEM. ONE WOULD EXPECT INTEREST RATES TO RAISE TO HELP CONTROL INFLATION, WHICH MEANS THAT MIDDLE CLASS PEOPLE WILL HAVE EVEN LESS BUYING POWER. AS FOR VICE-PRESIDENT PICKS, WHY WOULDN’T OBAMA WANT TO CHOOSE SOMEONE WHO HAS MUCH MORE EXPERIENCE IN GOVERNMENT? I DON’T THINK THIS SHOWS WEAKNESS-IT SHOWS CONFIDENCE-ONLY A CONFIDENT CANDIDATE COULD CHOOSE SOMEONE WHO IS STRONG-I BELIEVE THE LEGACY OF A PRESIDENT IS PARTLY WHO HE PLACES AROUND HIM-HIS V.P. AND HIS CABINET. JUST TAKE A LOOK AT BUSH-EVERYONE AROUND HIM IS A WAR MONGER AND A YES-MAN(BUSH WANTS ALL THE CONTROL, AND HE HAS IT-HE CHOSE HIS CABINET BASED ON WHO WOULD AGREE WITH EVERYTHING HE WANTS-NOT BECAUSE HE WANTED THEIR ADVICE)-RUMSFELD(SP.?) WAS A WAR MONGER DURING THE VIETNAM WAR, AND LOOK WHAT HAPPENED THERE. WE INVADED A COUNTRY WHICH DIDN’T WANT US, AND BECAUSE OF OUR OWN SPECIAL INTERESTS, THOUSANDS OF MEN AND WOMEN DIED FOR NOTHING, AND VIETNAM VETS HAVE SUFFERED HORRIBLY. WE HAVE THE EXACT SAME ISSUES CONCERNING IRAQ. WE HAVE NO BUSINESS BEING THERE. THEY HAVE THOUSANDS OF YEARS OF TRIBAL DISCONTENT-LET THEM FIGURE IT OUT-WE’RE NOT GOING TO CHANGE THAT FOR THEM-THEY HAVE TO FIND ACCEPTANCE ON THEIR OWN; AND WE CAN’T FORCE DEMOCRACY ON A COUNTRY THAT DOESN’T KNOW HOW TO FUNCTION WITHIN IT OR EVEN WANTS IT. IT DIDN’T WORK IN VIETNAM, AND IT’S NOT GOING TO WORK IN IRAQ. AS FOR MCCAIN, PAWLENTY WOULD BE A GREAT V.P.. HE HAS A VERY SAGE WAY OF THINKING AND DOING THINGS, WHICH I REALLY LIKE-HE SEEMS VERY LEVEL-HEADED. IF MCCAIN WERE TO CHOOSE HIM, I FEEL HE WOULD BE A GOOD BALANCE TO MCCAIN, AND I FEEL HE’S DOING A VERY CREDIBLE JOB IN MINNESOTA. HE’S HAD TO MAKE SOME VERY TOUGH FISCAL DECISIONS AFTER THE JESSE YEARS, AND I THINK HE’S DONE A GOOD JOB OF SPREADING BOTH THE CUTS AND THE MONEY AROUND THE STATE OF MINNESOTA. I HAVE LIVED IN NORTHERN MINNESOTA FOR 27 YEARS, AND HE IS THE FIRST GOVERNOR TO ACTUALLY LOOK AT US AS DESERVING A PIECE OF THE PIE-UP UNTIL HE WAS VOTED IN, THE TWIN CITIES AREA RECEIVED MOST OF THE BENEFITS. IT HAS BEEN VERY UNFAIR TO US HERE IN THE NORTH. WE ARE CITIZENS OF MINNESOTA, AND WE CONTRIBUTE AS MUCH AS ANYONE ELSE IN THE STATE, BUT WE HAVE BENEFITED THE LEAST. NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT WE SPEND MILLIONS OF DOLLARS EVERY YEAR IN THE TWIN CITIES AREA WHEN WE VISIT THERE. OUR ROADS AND HIGHWAYS ARE IN DEPLORABLE CONDITION IN MANY CASES-FACE FACTS-THE HARSH WEATHER MEANS A MUCH GREATER AMOUNT OF REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE-WHICH WE HAVEN’T RECEIVED IN MANY CASES. HIGHWAY 53 FROM DULUTH TO INTERNATIONAL FALLS IS THE WORST STRETCH OF HIGHWAY I HAVE TRAVELLED ON IN THE STATE-IT’S BEEN IN POOR CONDITION FOR YEARS, AND IT IS MUCH TRAVELLED ON. IT TAKES A CERTAIN KIND OF TOUGHNESS TO LIVE UP HERE-THE WORKING ENVIRONMENT HAS OFTEN BEEN VOLATILE DEPENDING ON WORLD AND DOMESTIC MARKET CONDITIONS, AND THE WEATHER QUITE SIMPLY FORCES ONE TO HAVE GRIT AND DETERMINATION-HOW OFTEN DO SOUTHERN MINNESTOANS HAVE TO GO TO WORK IN -50 DEGREE PLUS WINDCHILLS-IT HAPPENS HERE ALL THE TIME, AND WE JUST DO IT. I’M NOT COMPLAINING AT ALL-I CAN LIVE WHERE I WANT-I CHOOSE TO LIVE HERE. I’M PROUD OF IT, AND I AM EXTREMELY PLEASED THAT PAWLENTY HAS SHARED PART OF THE STATE’S BENEFITS WITH US-WE HAVE NEEDED IT, AND WE DESERVE IT AS MUCH AS ANYONE ELSE IN THE STATE. YES, WE ARE DEFINITELY A DIFFERENT BREED OF CATS UP HERE-WE’RE INDEPENDENT AND RESOURCEFUL, AND HARD-WORKING. JUST TRY GROWING YOUR FAMILY’S VEGETABLES IN A 60-DAY GROWING SEASON, WITH ROCK-LADEN SOIL, AS MY FAMILY DOES-I’M PROUD TO SAY WE DO IT-INCLUDING STATE FAIR SIZE VEGGIES. EVER HAD A HEAD OF BROCCOLI THAT YOU CAN’T FIT INTO YOUR MICROWAVE? JUST ONE EXAMPLE OF RESOURCEFULNESS, GRIT, INTELLIGENCE, KNOWLEDGE, HARD WORK, AND DETERMINATION UP HERE IN THE NORTHLAND. AND YES, I AM COLLEGE-EDUCATED AND OWN MY OWN BUSINESS-I HAVE DEFINITE OPINIONS AND I WILL STATE THEM WHEN I FEEL IT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO-I ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO VOTE WITH THEIR BRAINS AND NOT NECESSARILY ALONG PARTY LINES-VOTE FOR THE BEST PERSON FOR THE JOB, NOT BECAUSE IT IS THE “REPUBLICAN OR DEMOCRAT OR INDEPENDENT OR GREEN OR ANY OTHER PARTY” THING TO DO. RESPECTFULLY, CAROLYN KLOSOWSKY

  • Hey: Obama is up by 8 points. I suspect his lead will continue to widen despite McCain’s choice of a young but still paleolithic VP candidate. I bet the republican convention gets 1/2 the viewership the democratic convention gets, and McCain’s bounce is held to 2 points.

If McCain isn’t up by eight next friday he’s in REAL trouble.
