Al Franken signed the congressional pledge from “Divided We Fail,” a staunchly bipartisan effort on health care on financial security. Read more about their platform here.
Franken made a statement about the pledge:
Everywhere I go in Minnesota, I hear about the rising costs of health care and the deterioration of retirement security. It’s time for a change in Washington. And I’m proud to pledge that I will wake up every morning as a Senator and fight for affordable health care, the protection of Social Security, and better retirement options for all Minnesotans.

ha ha. Now Coleman has to sign a pledge to work across party lines.
I admit that a month ago I was predicting a 10 point defeat for Franken, but lately he seems to have gotten the ball rolling. This is a big populist issues for Franken. Now Norm has to decide if he’s going to enrage AARP and many struggling Minnesotans to keep his Lewis/Krinkie/Strom/Taxpayer’s League wing happy. I can see a lot of ads beating Norm senseless on this issue if he doesn’t sign it.
A few questions for Al.
It has become clear that questions about your birthplace, residence in Minnesota and the truth of statements you made about your residence have been called into question. It is also clear from discussions with the media that you have not been fully vetted on these questions and Minnesotans want you to come clean and tell the full truth about your ties or lack thereof to Minnesota. If John McCain is being called to account for the number of houses he owns, it is certainly reasonable that you be expected to be open with the people of Minnesota about the condo you live in and the extent of your commitment to our state.
1) Your website describes you as a native Minnesotan in one place and lists a birthplace of New York, New York in another. Many sources in the media including ABC News, New York Times, Minneapolis StarTribune and others have referred to you as “a native Minnesotan” when the opposite appears to be true. Can you straighten this out once and for all?
2) You purchased a condo in Minneapolis in April, 2005. Is that when you moved here? Did you arrange for your mail to forward here? What other affirmative acts did you do to evidence your intent to be a Minnesota resident? Why did you not apply for a Minnesota driver’s license until July, 2007 if you moved here as you said in 2005?
3) New York authorities began to attempt to contact you in April, 2005 for unpaid workers compensation. These contacts occurred in June, 2005 and in June, August and December, 2006 and further in March, May and July, 2007 when the $25,000 penalty was assessed. You said that you were living in Minnesota during the past few years and therefore did not get your mail. If that was true why were you voting in New York In September, 2005 and November, 2005? How can you reconcile your statement and the fact that you voted in New York? It is not legal to vote in New York if you did not live there.
All of us move during our lives. The first two things that everyone does when they move is to arrange for their mail and get a drivers license in a timely and legal fashion. Yet, it does not appear that you did either of these by your own actions and statements. I think you owe the people of Minnesota an accounting for your actions.
So, “Native Minnesotan” at issue — -
Is NORMY perhaps Ojibway?
That accent bretrays him, he must be Lakota!
RangerMan,
Perhaps you should take what the paper wrote — up with the paper.
No one’s history is hidden. Al has been very FRANK about his origins & uses it to good effect in campaigning.
He has met the qualifications. He has lived here for many years, before leaving & coming back.
Its not like there’s a green card, y’know?
Wisconsin, Iowa, the Dakotas & even New York & California are still part of the United States!
Shall we compare accents - and see who even SOUNDS more naturally Minnesotan, Al or Normy?
The residency requirements you fantasize about, are your personal wet dream, I am afraid.
This is a simple issue. Was Al really a resident when he said he was? If you vote in another state when you say you are a resident here, it’s a lie. If he truly lived here in 2005 and voted in NY, it’s voter fraud. It doesn’t matter whether you lived in MN as a kid, nor your accent nor what someone else did. I think Al faked his residency to fool Minnesotans and only got caught because he failed to pay workers comp in NY but I will let him explain. Any maybe the NY election people would like to take at look at these facts. I am sure the republicans have figured this issue out.
OF course you will let him explain.
Inquiring Minds want to know? Are you THE mind?
Sounds as much like a “when did you stop beating your wife” sort of pose you are taking.
And some mysterious “birthplace comes into question?” Tin foil hat stuff, but wear it proudly.
If its so simple - it should also be simple to know where to properly derive answers:
Perhaps you should, as I stated above - also take your personal issue about what the paper says,
with the paper who made such statement.
Which is not to say that it was wrong just because you wish to think so!
Just because you had a desire to cast doubt. (By the way, when DID you stop beating your wife?)
There is no secret about the purchase of the condo & moving here, despite the aspersions you are trying to cast.
He spoke about it publicly on his radio show as it happened.
If you have an accusation you want to sell there, maybe you should MAKE one instead try to start a whisper campaign.
@ Ranger
Hahahaha. Hahaha. Hahahaha.
Furthermore, Hahahahahaha.
P.S.
You suck.
Is Laurie Coleman a Minnesotan?
DividedWeFail.org noun. 1. An organization of narcissists wanting to impose mediocre healthcare on everyone (except the elite) and to impose crushing debt and steal choice, freedom and liberty from future generations. 2. Also, a group which believes Americans are weak and incapable of being self-sufficient, necessitating the imposition of a facistic, paternailistic government to take care of them from cradle to grave. 3. A group which despise America and hate the Constitution and the independent, federal republic it established. 4. A group which has never read the U.S. Constitution and doesn’t understand the independent, federal republic it established.
I could go on, but you get the point. When will liberals understand that narcissism is NOT a virtue.
