Madia Holding Debate Watching Party

Ashwin Madia will square off against Erik Paulsen (R-Big Oil) on Thursday during the TwinWest Chamber of Commerce Debate.  The cost of attending the debate is $35 for non-Chamber members, but the Madia campaign has stepped up to the plate and set up a free viewing party.

The party starts at 6:00 pm at Madia’s office at 10200 73rd Avenue, Ste 116 in Maple Grove and the debate starts at 8:00. Jeff has more details at MNCR. I’d encourage everyone to go (in fact, I just might be there myself!)

UPDATE - I misread the information.  The debate is at 8 am, the Madia campaign will be airing a tape of the debate at their office at 6 pm.

You all keep forgetting that there is another candidate in the 3rd District race.
His name is David Dillon. Get over yourselves. The Independence Party is a major party here in Minnesota and should be treated with the same respect that you would the other 2 parties. It is people like you that upset me because they think they have a lock on power and don’t realize that there is a large group of people that are not happy with either party and feel that they have to chose between the lesser of 2 evils. How sad is that? Even while I was in Europe during the 2004 Elections they were all laughing that we didn’t have better choices. I kept hearing over and over again, “Is this the best that America has to offer?”
David Dillon is a viable candidate as much at the other 2 claim they are.
    Get real!!

    Emeraldking,

We are being real. How many IP candidates have run in the 3rd and actually registered at any level? Can you name one? The 3rd isn’t a hotbed of disgruntled party people. It’s people like you who will give this election to the GOP - again - for the umpteenth time. It’s time for you to get over yourself. Didn’t you learn anything from Nader?

Dillon is not a viable candidate. I’ve never even heard of him, anyway.

Look, I’m no huge fan of the democratic party. They’re quick to cave. HOWEVER…the democratic party represents the values of the average American FAR more closely than the republican party.

    Choice
    Readily availiable health care
    Social security
    Education
    Taxation
    Education
    The Iraq war

on nearly every issue, the democratic party more closely represents the feelings of the average American (according to actual data)

The independent party had about 26 people attend their convention last spring. Not an overwhelming major party showing here in the 3rd. Don’t think the current image of Jesse the body is helping much…

You might not be happy with what the 2 major parties have to offer, but I would hope you have learned by now that being a spoiler is not the way to get any of the issues that matter to you addressed. Of the 2 parties, I feel that the Democrats are going to come closer to what matters to you and your independent friends. We are the party of fiscal responsibility and social liberalism. Don’t believe that, then you haven’t been paying attention to the cost of the war and the huge deficit the republicans have created for us to fix. You also haven’t noticed all of the laws the republicans would like to impose upon us in the name of “values”.

Ashwin Madia has a fiscally responsible platform. He has real solutions to our energy problems, and a realistic plan to get us out of Iraq.

Erik Paulsen voted against the transportation bill, something the state Chamber of Commerce wanted and lobbied for. That body recognizes that a crumbling infrastructure is not conducive to business viability. Paulsen has NO PLAN to get us out of Iraq. Paulsen also has no realistic energy plan, just a lot of party talking points. Paulsen would like to control women’s reproductive rights, civil rights and human rights.

None of this sounds like an agenda the independent party supports. The way I see it, you will have a choice. Support a candidate who has no chance in the 3rd, or support the candidate who more closely represents the principles that you care about.

    That candidate is Ashwin Madia.

    My take on lojasmo’s points.

Choice - I agree, the Dems have the right approach
Readily availiable health care - We all want that. How readily available is healthcare when you have to wait 4 months? I like the Shadegg plan in teh House.
Social security - You mean the Ponzi scheme that is soon insolvent? Let’s take care of our people, but there must be a smarter way.
Education - Both parties have merit. More money doesn’t always equal better education, though. Devil’s in the details. Choice isn’t bad.
Taxation - GOP far and away… they realize that someone’s paycheck has to fund Govt, and that someone is all of us.
    Education - on here twice
The Iraq war - Most people in the 3rd favor pulling out once Iraq can take care of their country.

Madia is by far the best choice for all of us in the 3rd (unless you are making millions and don’t give a sh.. about anyone else). By the way, I think it’s fine to make money…you should also pay a proportional ammount similiar to someone barely getting by.
Choice..Dem’s have it right…even the Pro Life people have exceptions (rape, incest, etc.)
Health Care…Dem’s all the way…Republican leadership has seen more and more people getting less and less coverage..how can this be good?
Social Security…Dem’s…the Republicans believe in robbing the fund to pay things like wars and such…this is the only safety net most reitiree’s have
    Education…..Dem’s…No Child Left Behind…enough said!
Taxation….Dem’s…unless you think accounting shifts and fees, rising property taxes, school board levy’s, etc. are not taxes. The Republicans love using double speak and trickery to cover up their costs.
Iraq..Dem’s…Madia’s served there and knows the people and what’s going on….he’ll support a proper plan to get us out…the surge is no plan.
Sorry to go on and on…it’s been a long day.

    Go Emerald King!

Reading the whining over third parties being spoilers makes me sick.
Go out and win your own election — regardless of the number of candidates — and stop blaming others.

The third CD is full of centrists, and David Dillon is the only centrist in this race. That is why he will win.

Blue Guy is talking a good game now - they all do this time of year - but if elected (which he won’t be) he’ll have fall right in line to the people that bought him off and own him — special interest liberals and national party.

My biggest problem with what we have “in power”, the Democrats and Republicans, is who are they really going to listen to? They are going to listen to who bought them. There really isn’t any middle ground. Neither party will ever cross the aisle. Look what happened when those 6 Republicans tried. They were knocked out of their party. Why? Because of what they believed needed to be done. The IP will not be ones that will bow to those special interests. If either Paulsen or Madia are elected do you really believe that they will be willing to stick their necks out? Paulsen didn’t and I doubt Madia will either. They are bought and paid for by special interests. That is the problem we have, that I see, with our political system today.
