I’ve decided to call him “Good Joe Biden”. He may not be polished but he’s passionate, he’s wicked smart and he and his giant Irish family are coming to kick your ass.
A little more seriously — Biden missed out on having months of integration (or heck, even a full week of integration) and it showed in his speech. You could tell even from his video that it wasn’t crafted with the same care that all of the others were. But I think what was born out in his speech is that what you can expect out of Joe Biden is a scrappy attack dog who will spend the next two months making clear distinctions between Barack Obama and John McCain.
Moving on to some other convention commentary, I thought that it couldn’t get any worse than CNN — I spent part of the first night watching CNN and listening to Jim Carville whine and moan about how there was no content — all the while showing just the prime time speeches and the rest of the time the panelists just yammered on. I thought it couldn’t get any worse than that, then I watched MSNBC and I’ve decided that it’s blood sport — just complete and utter combative crap. Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews (an insufferable blowhard if there ever was one), Rachel Maddow and Pat Buchanan (anti-Semetic, racist blowhard if there ever was one) all sit there half bickering with one another while slavering for the Democratic speakers to attack McCain harder. So I’ve come up with a resolution, we’re gonna put all of ‘em (Joe Scarborough too) on an Island, set them against one another while men of privlidge hunt them for sport.

I have gotten so tired of the constant blatherings of the “blowhards” on the cable networks (and broadcast also), that I have switched to C-SPAN. That way I could see ALL of Montana Gov. Schweitzer’s address, ALL of Sen. Kerry’s, and ALL of Virginia Senate candidate Mark Warner’s. Yes, CSPAN is quite minimalist in their coverage, but I’ll take their Philip Glass approach any day over CNN, MSNBC, FOX, ABC, et al.
Sean, I couldn’t agree more about CNN. Actually, I was just about to post the exact same thing.
I too have completely defected to C-span. I can’t take another second
of either CNN or MSNBC. They are all turning into FOX wannabe’s!
Gov. Schweitzer’s speech was one of the best I’ve heard in a long time. Thank God for C-Span.
Agreed on C-SPAN. See, we’re all kindred spirits in a way!
To give a compliment, I think Beau Biden’s introduction speech was the most touching and genuine speech of the entire convention. It is very hard not to empathize with what that family went through and how strong they came out of it.
Ya know, DtM - as much as RightWingNuts complain about the public expenditures on C-Span, if it wasn’t for C-Span, Newt’s “revolution” might not ever occurred.
An informed citizenry is essential for democracy to succeed.
That’s why you should watch on CSpan.
No dumb pundits. Just the convention.
I only watch c-span.
Agree with DtM on the Biden boy’s introduction. Completely touching. I hope he does okay in Iraq.
CAll me crazy, but I happen to like MSNBC crew, save for Pat Buchannan. He does blow hard. I like C-Span too.
C-SPAN is the only way to go for coverage, unless of course you like hearing the same thing over and over and over again by the same bunch of media-whores.
By the way, I used to like Tom Brokaw but he seems now to be reveling in the role of being the old guy who shouts “GET OUTTA MY YARD!at everyone. When asked about any speech his reply is: it’s scripted and managed and just what we expected, what INSIGHT from the Dean of NBC News.
Beau Biden was so cool, mentioning the fact that he was saddened that he would not be able to be with his dad this fall but not saying why…
I’m gay for Rachel. MSNBC has a star on their hands.
PBS is covering well too.
Sparkle bright Denver night… I can’t wait.
You all are elitest cable/satelite watching cake eaters.
PBS has Tom Leher with Judy Woodruff on the floor. They also have actual historians commenting on the events.
On Monday after Former Republican whatever (the Kermit the Frog sound-a-like) spoke I thought Leher and his commentators were going to choke, they were trying not to giggle so much.
Alright, I’ll give ya PBS, but they still are not gavel-to-gavel like C-SPAN.
Media Matters reported on a hilarious gaffe by Pat Buchanan, where he was deriding the fact that no speaker had yet to mention “Guantanamo”. But Sen. Kerry had done that just moments before. Only problem was that MSNBC had already cut away from Kerry’s address. And that is not the only example of how botched the majority of the coverage has been.
I look forward to more effed up work during the Repub convention next week.
Doesn’t anybody see at least a little bit of irony in a rabidly partisan blog having a post complaining about blow-hard political commentators? Coming from Sean and Publius a complaint about MSNBC and Carville is like a crack dealer complaining about the high social cost of drug addiction.
Kerosene Hat, I agree 100%,
Thank you for, again, knocking down people who disagree with you on MN Publius. Continue to call them names every time you comment here.
At MN Publius, there has been a long series of intellectual name calling by you that has taken down moonbats so very well. Obviously, your comments again prove you are one of the most intelligent commenters here.
I guarantee you, these Democrats at MN Publius will not get back up.
Intelligent, independent thinker Bill O’Reilly could not have done a better job himself.
Great Job Kerosene Hat!!
