Sarah Palin was announced as John McCain’s Vice Presidential pick on August 29th, now more than a full week later she hasn’t given her first interview. She hasn’t answered any questions about any substantive policy issues, she hasn’t shown if she’s ready to replace at the drop of a hat a 72 year old multiple cancer survivor in the most difficult job in the world.
Sarah — where are you?

Sarah Palin was told that she was not to speak to the press freely until she has graduated from the GOP School of Talking Points. We’ll see then her robotic her responses are when asked questions as well as how consistent she will be when giving them.
Of course, Palin’s attacks on Obama’s character will not abate. Look for Hillary Clinton to step in and spear the “barracuda” good.
She had the RNC to deal with, and she has agreed to an interview with Gibson on ABC this week. Sheesh
Sean — Every single Vice Presidential since the 1960’s has had press appearances, interviews etc. immediately after they were picked, or after the convention (if that’s when they were announced). Palin’s silence is unusual, and I think it goes to show that John McCain, in his first exercise of Presidential-caliber decision making picked someone wholly incapable of being President on Day 1.
I don’t expect you to admit that (I think your much professed “moderation” and impartiality is balderdash) but let’s not kid ourselves here.
Sean Broom
Sean, Sean, Sean.
You liberals are just missing the point! Obama, he uses them big words, acting like jus ‘cause he’s got an education, he knows what he talking about. He just trying to use them big words to fools us average Americans. Now Governor Palin, she one of us ordinary folk. She knows that just because we’re C students, that don’t mean we don’t have as good an idea of what’s goin’ on as you with your fancy educations. We know that all y’all media types are just trying to persecute Governor Palin when you ask your fake ‘important’ questions, about experience and policy and such.
And how y’all focus on her family. You think we want to see a functional family like Senator Obama’s, with children he’ll keep an eye? We want to see one like our own, with children who are out partying, putting pictures of themselves drinking on MySpace at the edge of 17, and gettin’ knocked up so we can have a nice Christian marriage!
Okay, so a lot of that above was satire. But here’s the point: worse than having dark skin, Barack Obama is someone who is well educated and uses big words to describe complex problems. And even worse? He doesn’t have the good grace to be ashamed of having that knowledge that the average citizen, the holy average voter, doesn’t have. And to compound it all, he thinks that means it allows him to have a better idea of what is going than turning things into nice simple abstractions, like how terrorists are bad, and Iraq is bad, so Iraq most of had something to do with 9/11! (John McCain, January 2002)
And this is a nation of C-students, C-students who are proud of their ignorance, C-students who would rather have someone leading them who would tell them how wonderful they for being ignorant. McCain and Palin will be those people. Think I have an overly harsh view of the American voter? That’s your right.
But just look at who we elected the last two times were were given a choice, before we say that the people just have to vote for two men who use big words over a ticket of people who say those same people are holy for not knowing what those words mean.

I think the VP pick should be someone who clearly has sufficient experience to make people comfortable with their knowledsge and ability to lead. While Obama may have short resume on national experience, he has demonstrated his judgement and leadership skills over the past year, including 20+ debates and just as many tough interviews. With only 8 weeks to the election Palin needs to attempt to do the same with many, many interviews starting now, with focus solely on the issues.
yeah, Obama is, as we say at my house, “wicked smart” ~ I don’t know enough about Palin to judge but I’m guessing that Harvard Law Review might be beyond her reach. There was a time in America where being smart and educated was considered a good thing, and certainly a prerequisite to be POTUS but that certainly doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.
There was an interview on the news last night with some guy who’s now voting for McCain because he met Todd Palin and remarked something to the effect of ‘he’s in a union and I’m in a union and he seems like a real great guy’. Do you suppose this guy has any idea of how Republicans have done their best to bust unions in this country (and been very successful at it)? Nope. But ‘he seems like a real great guy’ is good enough to get his vote. Very frustrating.
Well, she attended the RNC. Then, she went on the campaign trail.
She’ll have her time with the press, soon. But just as it has been with Obama, it will be measured and managed carefully. Obama accepts a fraction of the press invites he gets, and the terms of the ones he does are closely dictated by his camp. Expect the same for Palin.
Sarah Pallin is about half ass bright. Smart enough to use sound-bite solutions as a philosophy to get elected but too dumb to realize her limitations. I think the next few months are going to be press question followed by deer in the headlights look and a Pallin bumper-sticker answer. She would be an extremely risky person to be a heartbeat away from the Presidency. Dangerous choice from a candidate who should know better.
Obama has accepted press interviews and gone on those talk shows right along….nobody had to shuffle him off to a remote location to “train” him for prime time (and yes, I consider Alaska remote!). Do you really think rolling her out for a few controlled media events close to the election is going to work? I hope not!
And if it does, I guess we will continue to get the government we deserve instead of the government we really need.
And I thought she was ready on day one….tells us a lot about McCain’s judgment.
Pfft. Biden was doing pressers within a day of accepting.
If this woman is fit to be president of the senate in a few months, she should damn well be able to take a few softball questions on the issues.
I can see why you’re so desperate to attack the McCain-Palin ticket. All of the recent polls show McCain got quite a bounce from his convention and her outstanding acceptance speech and post-convention appearances. Let’s recap the latest polls: USA Today has McCain up over Obama 54%-44% among likely voters. Zogby has McCain up over Obama 49%-45%. And Gallup has McCain up over Obama 48%-45%. Sarah Palin is the most exciting person in politics right now, even more so than Obama. She’ll make the rounds with the drive by media soon, even though I don’t blame her for not being anxious to sit down with them. After all, last week some of the most prominent journalists in America were demanding a DNA test of Palin’s son, Trig, after the left wing blogosphere smeared Palin by accusing her of being Trig’s grandmother.
OMG! There was a BOUNCE! We’re DESPERATE!
Come on, Chris. The American electorate needs a chance to find out what an extreme ideological partisan she is.
Which of the “most prominent journalists” were calling for DNA testing, Chris?
And seriously….”Drive by media” Is that what you have had to resort to now that your “left wing media” screed has been thoroughly realized as pablum?
Just because someone went to Harvard or Yale doesn’t mean they are smart. Where did our President go? What was his GPA? He was a C student at both of those schools folks.
I agree with what BBC News once said in 2004. “Is this the best that America has to offer?” Then they laughed. Remember folks, who we elect the world will react. Who we elect does have an effect on the rest of the world. Right now we have little respect. When I travel and out side of the airport officals I always say I’m from Canada. Less hassle. I am proud to be from the USA but I don’t want to get my butt kicked either. Our government doesn’t do much to offer assistance. Been there done that. Yes, your citizenship that they tout to be so great isn’t worth much inside and outside our borders. We need to start electing leaders that are Independent of big oil, bit pharmacy, and the lot. Want respect around the world? Vote for respectable leaders.
Minnesota Republican blogger Chris, I agree 100%,
Sarah Palin is the most exciting candidate, because she is very good at misrepresenting and insulting the positions of people who disagree with her.
Everyone knows this mom, moose hunter, and maverick is using her own unique style of campaigning, and is completely different than George W. Bush’s 2004 campaign of misrepresenting and insulting the positions of people who disagree with him.
Great Job Minnesota Republican blogger Chris
Agreed Indy. Going to Harvard doesn’t automatically make you smart. However, I do wonder about a VP pick who has the same level of degree (Bachelors) that I do.
Danno, she went to six different colleges to get her Bachelors, so its ok.
Going to Harvard doesn’t automatically make you smart.
Being named editor of the Law Review, though, generally means that other, trustworthy, respected people think you are, though.
The more the slavering socialist libtards attack Sarah Palin, the more their desperation shows. Just saying…;-{)
And of course, whoever questions Sarah Palin’s credentials or judgment is a slavering libtard.
I would love for some undecideds to read this thread. I think it would swing alot of votes McCain’s way.
You don’t think us slavering socialists are convincing? I’m crushed.
