I applaud this man’s service to our country and it is “shameful” that Al Franken advocated cutting off funding for the troops in Iraq.
Good grief. How predictable, Brodkorb.
Does that schtick ever get old?
Mr. Brodkorb ignores Mr. Coleman’s woeful record of supporting the troops.
That’s because Mr. Coleman has an “R” behind his name.
To people like Mr. Brodkorb, that’s all that matters.
Maybe Michael should call Sam Scott and shout “Al Franken advocated cutting off funding for the troops in Iraq” at Sam and hang up.
That would be no different than any of his comments have traditionally been here at Mn Publius.
laughing at the relentless and shameful republican spin.
Hey, you can shit on the troops and wipe your ass with the constitution all day long, as long as you put a support the troops sign in your yard and wear a lapel pin. It is the Republican way!
Some of us actually did more for our country than that Michael. You should try it.

Thank you for your service, Alec.
I may be an independent, but this is but one reason that I support Al Franken for US Senator: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-uYrT9TDy9A
Michael — did you edit your comment, and if so shouldn’t you have documented that? Sean
Thanks, Alec.
Terrific ad. I still don’t really like Franken personality wise, but I do give him credit for supporting the troops- in terms of boosting morale with visits, providing necessary equipment and advocating for veterans benefits/services.
What is truly shameful is that not enough troops were sent into Iraq to start with. The troops that were sent were not properly equipped. Al Franken has helped raise funds for Dr. Bob’s “helmet liner” program. This is something our government should have taken care of, but didn’t. The injured troops also were not properly cared for when they returned home. The Bush Administration has cornered the market on shame. Wanting to save the troops from neglect at the hands of their own government has nothing to do with shame.
What was shameful is that troops were sent to Iraq at all. If that mistake would not have been made, well none of this would be an issue would it. Of course having the intelligence to understand the invasion was wrong even if what Bush’s claims had been true won’t be a subject for debate between Coleman and Franken. Given the fact they both supported sending troops across the world for no valid reason. As is often the case both major party candidates got the important issue wrong so they spend their time arguing about who would be better at cleaning up a mess they weren’t smart enough to be against creating in the first place.
Except, KH - ol’ Smokescreen has done NOTHING to clean the mess up; to the contrary, he’s done everything he could to make it worse: no hearings, no investigations, and complete fealty to the Administration.
This is why I am happy to support Al Franken; he walks the walk. He saw a problem with the inaequate supplies for our troops, and he did something about it. Meanwhile, Norm was covering up for the contractors who have been ripping off the taxpayers for years.
I never said Coleman has done anything. But if we are trying to elect a Senator why should we accept anything less than somebody smart enough to have avoided the problem in the first place?
Mr. Hat may I suggest you study the science of politics. It is founded on the art of compromise. But then you already knew that didn’t you… just needed to try and jab the next Senator from the Great State of Minnesota; Al Franken.
amuseinc,
Compromise is one thing. Supporting for no rational reason the invasion of Iraq was pure stupidity by anybody who did so. Nice job of avoiding the issue and moving straight in to mindless cheer-leading though. I suppose you have to be quite adept at it if you are going to vote for Franken. However may I suggest the next time you try to rationalize supporting a candidate that failed to make the right decision on the most important issue in the last 20 years you not refer to a fact about them as a “jab”. It makes it look like that the facts about your candidate are insulting.
Mr. Hat… and you will of course be voting for Norm Coleman, he of the pristine record and towering intelligence? Seemingly the enabler of the greatest number of thieves and war profiteers since the invention of money. Or would it be Dean Barkley, he of the Party of the Lonely One and confusing mishmash of policy statements.
Your selection leaves much to be desired in a candidate… but then again you seem to think Sarah Palin should be a heartbeat away from having her hands on the Nuclear Button.
